(from Nissan Press Release) Nissan GT-R Goes Racing Around the World

– Competing in Three Series on Four Continents –

From the moment the venerable Nissan GT-R was introduced to the world in 2008, it was hailed as one of the most potent production cars ever to hit the pavement. Developed and groomed on the most demanding racetrack on the planet, the Nordschleife at the Nürburgring, the GT-R set lap times so impressive that they shocked the automotive community. For the 2010 race season, Nissan has decided to unleash the GT-R’s potential as a race machine, waging war in three different series on four continents.

In North America, Nissan will team up with Brass Monkey Racing to contest the World Challenge GT Championship, where two specially-prepped GT-Rs will vie for the Manufacturers and Drivers Championships. And speaking of drivers, the cars will be piloted by two-time series race winner Tony Rivera and Steve Ott. The GT-Rs will debut in St. Petersburg on March 26-28.

“We’re very excited to bring such an iconic car to the North American professional racing scene,” A.J. Brass, team owner of the Brass Monkey Racing, said. “We look forward to bringing an entirely new platform to World Challenge.”

In Europe, the Middle East, and South America a quartet of GT-Rs will do battle in the 2010 FIA GT1 World Championships. Team Sumo Power and Swiss Racing Team will each field two GT-Rs in this exclusive series. One of the Sumo Power cars, wearing the traditional Nissan race number “23”, will be driven by Peter Dumbreck and Michael Krumm. Multiple FIA GT race-winner Karl Wendlinger will pilot a Swiss Racing GT-R in the season-opener on April 17 in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

“I have been racing in the FIA GT Championships for many years, but now I’m very excited about the new world championship and very happy to be driving the Nissan GT-R,” Wendlinger said.

In Asia, three GT-Rs will carry on Nissan’s successful association with the Super GT Series. Running in the coveted GT500 class, the spec GT-Rs will compete under the team banners of Nismo, Kondo Racing and Team Impul. Nismo ace driver, Satoshi Motoyama, who won the championship in the GT-R in 2008, looks forward to a challenging yet successful season in 2010.

“The car is improved significantly from last year, so that’s a sign that we’ll be very competitive this year. The other makers have also made improvements, so it should be an interesting year,” Motoyama said.

To say that the GT-R will be racing “all over the place” this year would be an understatement. Look for it to seriously go after GT racing’s version of the Triple Crown by winning all three series, a feat never before accomplished.

Mechanical tweaks are kept to a minimum, but the GT-R doesn’t exactly leave tons of room for improvement.  Even so, Tommy Kaira has made exhaust, suspension and brake upgrades available.  Carbon black, 20″ rims are good for a few more style points on this GT-R.  Overall, it’s a tastefully executed package that accents the existing style features of the GT-R, but contributes a welcome touch of aggressiveness.  Two more pics after the jump

Introduced in 2007, the Nissan GT-R was created to rival Porsche’s 911, both on paper and on the track. Evidence has shown that it does this quite well. Nissan’s engineers even planned to mimic the model update cycle used by Porsche for the 911. After a year like 2009, almost everyone has made some changes to their strategies and future product line-ups. Likewise, Nissan is rumored to be planning a surprising option for the next generation of the GT-R.  Although some rumors suggested a GT-R based SUV, or 4-door M5 fighter, sources of Inside Line have led them to believe a hybrid version of the current 2-door supercar is the most likely addition to the Nissan family.

The twin turbocharged 3.8L 440 hp V-6 will be supplemented by a 160 hp electric motor for a targeted total horsepower rating of 600.  Relative to the current GT-R, the next generation will have increased power and fuel economy.  Unfortunately, it will also gain some weight from the batteries and electric motor.  The bulked up GT-R won’t suffer any performance loss though, which is good news.  Oh, did I mention it’s going to cost around $100k?

At $80k, the GT-R makes a good bargain supercar, considering how it competes with others in the $100k+ range.  Even with the impressive power specs and predicted performance, why spend that much on a hybrid version of a car intended for track use?  Is there evidence that a hybrid’s batteries and powertrain can handle that kind of abuse?  To be honest, if I had that much money to spend, I’d go for the Corvette ZR1 or the Porsche 911.

The Switzer P800 Nissan GT-R is not a toy. It’s so fast, even a camera can’t catch it! It is an extremely precise machine for achieving top speed in very little amounts of time. Twin turbos, free flowing exhaust, all-wheel drive, and a custom tune brings this monster to 186 miles per hour in only 19 seconds! The Nissan GT-R is a very nimble vehicle straight from the factory but adding the Switzer P800 performance package really wakes up the inner beast. Nick named Godzilla, this is one screaming JDM that means business with over 700 horsepower!

Not many cars can beat the Nissan GT-R combined with the Switzer P800 performance package. It’s kill list goes on and on! Whether in the straights, or through corners, the P800 GT-R is a daily driver for those who love speed and insane amounts of pull. The Switzer brings in an insane 0-62 mph time of 1.8 seconds! The best part about this beast, is that it achieved the esteemed 186 mph time by using pump gas and some white knuckle driving. For around $125,000 USD, one can own a saber toothed wolf in cuddly sheep’s clothing.

Britain’s Fifth Gear has taken the Nissan 370Z out for a spin, and come away pleased.  The new Z, as expected, is praised for its “refinement”: the car’s grounded, accelerates with more confidence, and handles the corners with more ease.  The only gripe to come up with the new Z is the car’s more predictable nature–it’s grown up, as they say.

Here’s a video showing the inner-working’s of Hennessey’s modded GT-R.  The tuner isn’t showing modesty, claiming to have built the fastest and most powerful GT-R ever .  The speed title comes from a track run at the Texas Mile, which came to a hair’s width under 25 sec.  The “powerful” title has yet to be finalized; the team has installed new turbos, reprogrammed the ECU, and put in new steel-lined headers, among other things.  Top speed is 194 mph.cactus dvdrip download
