The Beachcomber is merely a design experiment with no chance of production. The thesis behind the project is that a Mini can be perfectly at home on the breezy coast. Open-air seating, all-wheel-drive, a turbo four, and detachable panels characterize the Beachcomber’s Mini-Meets-Jeep theme.

We’re pretty fond of the Jalopnik gang–partly for their insults against The Truth About Cars, and partly for their grassroots fondness for automotive and aeronautical performance. Joining a common trend this is their “Best10″ (a play on Car and Driver’s “10Best”) cars of the decade.

Here’s the latest gallery of AC Schnitzer’s ragtop Coop. The new AC project offers a mostly cosmetic enhancement to the already sweet Mini. To make sure buyers stand out from the pack, AC logos abound inside and out, with black/white exterior labels and unique striping. Mechanical enhancements include a suspension with height-adjustment and engine boost that pushes the turbo inline-four to put out 226 hp: that’s on par with factory sport compacts a class larger.
