(from AC Schnitzer Press Release) A Power Pack Beyond the Standard: The 1-series M Coupé by AC Schnitzer

High performance, outstanding technology and an authentic motorsport atmosphere are expressed in just one letter at BMW: M. First-class tuning for BMW comes in several letters to form one name: AC Schnitzer. With the 1-series M Coupé, BMW has unleashed a power pack with athletic design onto the road. The Aachen-based tuning experts AC Schnitzer reveal their own interpretation of the coupé with racing genes at the IAA in Frankfurt.

The heart of the 1-series M Coupé by AC Schnitzer is the power upgrade from a standard 340 to 400 HP. Together with the AC Schnitzer power plant and engine bay styling, this is available – like the AC Schnitzer Bonnet Vents – only for the export market. Here in Germany, the AC Schnitzer twin sports rear silencer with chromed “Racing“ tailpipe trims right and left helps the six-cylinder engine breathe more freely and creates an individual sound picture to suit the sporting image.

The increased power is balanced by the AC Schnitzer high performance brake kit for the front and rear axles. A 6-piston fixed caliper on the front and a 4-piston fixed caliper on the rear combine with perforated, internally vented brake discs and caliper holders to ensure rapid and stable deceleration for such a power pack.

Safe cornering is ensured by the AC Schnitzer racing suspension, which is fully height-adjustable. The threaded suspension, adjustable both in compression and rebound, provides total control and maximum agility and dynamism.

As well as pure power, the 1-series M Coupé by AC Schnitzer also comes with aerodynamic components. A carbon front spoiler, chromed front grille, carbon rear diffusor and the AC Schnitzer design elements on the front wings show what can still be achieved in the 1-series when it comes to high performance and motorsport ambience.

In the interior too, AC Schnitzer is taking a step beyond the standard. The painted centre console and interior trim in “Valencia Orange“, the AC Schnitzer “Black Line“ aluminium gear knob and handbrake handle and the “Black Line“ aluminium cover for the i-Drive system controller leave almost nothing to be desired inside the 1-series M Coupé. But it that’s not enough, you can also add the AC Schnitzer aluminium foot rest and pedal set, and velour foot mats for the passengers and perhaps even lay your hand on the AC Schnitzer sports steering wheel in alcantara.

The 340 or 400 HP are delivered via the transmission to the wide, weight-optimised 19 or 20-inch wheels. Choose from Type VIII and Type V forged alloy wheels in BiColor, Type VIII and Type IV wheels in BiColor and Type IV in silver with corresponding tyres to transfer the power to the road. Once there, letters and name come together to form a whole representing the ultimate in technology and style: the AC Schnitzer ACS1 Sport Coupé.

(from JM Cardesign Press Release) Cross-Generation Facelift

It is a regularly recurring process: if a car manufacturer presents a new model, its predecessor generation often seems outdated and old-fashioned all of a sudden, even though there was no reason for complaint previously. This happens at a time when the model usually has already gone through more or less intense model care. Although this kind of “spontaneous aging” is rather below average for the first-generation-BMW Z4, JM Cardesign from Bergheim performed a very special kind of face-lifting on the E85-Roadster presented here. The tuner fitted the “old” Z4 with the front pieces of the new E89 model. The front bumper and grille were modified in extensive handiwork to match the headlights, mudguards and bonnet of the E85. The result is very harmonious: even MBMW enthusiasts will take a moment to entirely identify the cross-generation transformation. JM Car Design also applied some classic craftsmanship in the area of the rear wheel runs. The sheet was extended by about 30 millimetres on each side, and the wheel running edge was then re-built in the “original” look. Of course, this widening also required adjustment of the rear apron and side sills to the new situation. The latter also had ventilation openings integrated that facilitate the cooling air flow to the rear brake system (in connection with the corresponding ducts). Before the vehicle was re-painted from silver to solid black in the in-house paint shop, JM Cardesign made the antenna, which is usually located on the rear left mudguard, vanish. It is now invisibly placed in the rear bumper. The door handles, side mirrors and side indicator lights in a BMW logo shape at the doors were also equipped with coming-home-lighting LEDs by JM Cardesign

The car is lowered by a 3-thread chassis version KW, adjustable in several parameters (height, pressure and tensile dampening), which also provides for fresh driving dynamics. The three-part screwed Work VS XX-light-metal wheel rims with their stars in matte “Gunmetal” are also put in the best light this way; at the front, the 9×20 inches ET32 size is used – at the rear even a full 11×20 inches ET32. The fine wheels were equipped with Dunlop Sport Maxx high-performance tyres in 245/30R20 and 285/25R20 respectively. The long front end of the vehicle is given added stiffness by the Wiechers dome rod installed under the bonnet. The Eisenmann end muffler with its 76 millimetre double-end tube emphasises the deep six-cylinder sound of the Z4 3.0i audibly. JM Cardesign took action in the interior as well. Various interior parts like the dashboard cover, entrance bars, steering wheel spokes and the gear knob were painted the same colour as the car.

Kelleners Sport put together a very nice package for the 1 Series BMW. They bumped up the horsepower to 410 with twin turbochargers on the six cylinder engine. Suspension was upgraded to adjustable coilovers tuned by Ralf Kelleners. The exterior has some very appealing enchancements including a front spoiler lip for increased down force, three piece grill inserts, 20 inch light alloy wheels, etc. Check out the press release for more informaion.

(from Kelleners Sport Press Release) Compact high-performance sports car: The Kelleners Sport KS1-S based on the BMW 1-Series M Coupé

    • Kelleners Sport the first tuner to offer a complete conversion
• Output up to 410 hp
• Adjustable coilover kit tuned by Ralf Kelleners ensures optimum handling – on road and track
• Supplementary front spoiler lip for optimum down force at high speeds – three-piece grill insert reinforces visual impact
• 20-inch light-alloy ‘Berlin’ or ‘Hamburg’ wheels
• Exclusive interior concept with luxurious leather trim

The M in the name promises much. Kelleners Sport guarantees even more. Now, with the BMW 1-Series M Coupé (Type E82), the German BMW specialists have taken the combination of high-performance engine and lightweight body to its logical automotive conclusion – power up to 410 hp, unique handling characteristics, improved aerodynamics and the high-grade interior are the distinguishing features of the KS1-S.

The high-revving inline six-cylinder engine with twin-turbochargers boosts the output of the KS Power SW 35M by a good 20 percent. Instead of the standard 340 hp (250 kW), the KS1-S produces max. 410 hp (301 kW) while max torque jumps from 450 to 550 Nm. The result is a decline in weight to power ratio from 4.4 to 3.8 kg per hp. And emphasising all this power are special Kelleners Sport rear silencers. With four 83 mm tail pipes, the stainless-steel system is optimised for unrestricted flow and distinguishes the car from the series model with a significantly more exciting exhaust sound.

The aerodynamic components of Kelleners Sport are designed to minimise wind resistance and ensure maximum down-force at high speeds. The MS front spoiler lip and the three-part MS grill insert made of electro polished stainless steel underscore the aerodynamic qualities of the car and create a supplementary visual impact. Naturally, this does not affect the BMW air curtains, which improve the aerodynamics by channelling the air stream around the front wheels. Visually, the improved agility is accentuated by decorative strips on the bonnet, roof and side sills.

The adjustable coil-over suspension system has been developed on the basis of racing experience and tuned in cooperation with eponym and racing driver Ralf Kelleners. Thus, Kelleners Sport gives the ambitious driver a wide range of options for setting the car up to suit his or her individual needs. Besides the continuously variable height adjustment, the suspension can also be adjusted independently in terms of both rebound and compression. In other words, the KS1-S can be set-up exactly to take account of the track, the tyres and the driver’s preferences.

The Kelleners Sport light-alloy wheels also contribute to the sporting characteristics and image. The extremely light, one-piece wheels reduce the unsprung weight and thus ensure dynamic handling. At the front, the 9×20-inch wheels are fitted with 245/30 high-performance tyres while the rear axle comes with 10×20-inch wheels and 265/30 tyres. With their 15 elegant spokes, the ‘Hamburg’ wheels are available in the following finishes: polished graphite-silver, polished platinum-silver and matt black. The ‘Berlin’ wheel with slender double spokes is available in platinum silver polished, matt black polished and matt black.

The work of the Kelleners Sport saddlery department, the high-grade interior concept gives the KS1-S the exclusive ambience of a luxury sports car. Top-quality perforated leather and velvety Alcantara in black and white fully cover the front and rear seats, the dashboard and the door panels. The white contrast stitching and the Kelleners Sport logo embroidered onto the head rests set elegant accents and underscore the car’s exclusive flair. The sports steering wheel is fitted with Alcantara applications. Additionally, the gear lever and hand brake boots are made of Alcantara. Rounding off the interior upgrade are high-gloss white interior trim and familiar accessories, such as aluminium pedals and a set of four foot mats made of high-grade velour with the Kelleners Sport logo.

The customised BMW 1-Series M Coupé is unequivocal evidence of the experience and expertise offered by Kelleners Sport. All work is based on a comprehensive concept for performance and handling, as well as interior and exterior style, and transforms an exclusive car into a unique and individual automobile – the Kelleners Sport KS1-S.

(from BMW Press Release) BMW 1 Series M Coupe to serve as MotoGP Safety Car.

Munich. The motorcycle road racing world championship – or MotoGP – ranks among the world’s most popular and spectacular sporting events. The involvement of BMW M GmbH in motorcycle racing’s top-echelon event now enters its 13th year. To ensure the safety of the practice runs and the race itself, BMW M GmbH is providing the official Safety Car along with a raft of other high-performance vehicles for use by the Dorna Sports management team and IRTA officials.

At the curtain raiser on 19th March, the BMW 1 Series M Coupe will for the first time be deployed as the official Safety Car for the MotoGP events – in advance of its market launch late in April. The BMW Safety Car is a one-off built by BMW M GmbH specifically for this race series. Only the 250 kW/340 hp straight-six M TwinPower Turbo engine and the entire drivetrain were taken over unchanged from the production model.

In the interests of weight optimisation, the BMW Safety Car comes with a carbon fibre-reinforced bonnet featuring additional large air vents, as well as polycarbonate side and rear windows. A special lightweight titanium race exhaust system not only saves weight but also delivers a captivating sound for the benefit of the spectators. Complementing the discreet spoiler lip on the boot lid there is now an adjustable rear wing to provide the requisite downforce. On the Safety Car the aerodynamically honed front apron with its precisely defined air ducting, including Air Curtains, features an additional splitter integrated on the underside of the apron.

The interior of the BMW Safety Car is a model of uncompromising purism. A rollover cage bolted behind the B-pillar, the absence of rear seats, two racing bucket seats with 6-point safety belts, an M steering wheel in alcantara and a fire extinguisher are all standard in the Safety Car.

The suspension technology of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe was specially adapted for the Safety Car. Its high-performance suspension system boasts an adjustable race track set-up that includes a sports-tuned chassis in which the dampers are independently adjustable for bump and rebound. The BMW Safety Car runs on 19-inch mixed tyres measuring 255/35 at the front and 285/30 at the rear. Vehicle height is variably selectable and the camber of the front and rear axle can be altered to suit the circuit topography. The braking system of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe, already designed for extremely high demands, is replaced in the Safety Car with a six-piston fixed-calliper racing brake system.

The deployment of the brand-new BMW 1 Series M Coupe Safety Car marks the continuation of BMW M GmbH’s successful partnership – begun in 1999 – with Dorna Sports, the organisers of the MotoGP World Championship. With a fleet of eight vehicles, BMW is supporting the safe running of the motorcycle world championship in the current race season. As well as the official BMW 1 Series M Coupe Safety Car, this year sees two further reserve Safety Cars from BMW M GmbH present at the track: a BMW X6 M and a BMW M3. In addition, the organising team has been given a BMW X5 M for the Safety Officer and a BMW ActiveHybrid X6 for the stewards. On call this season as a Medical Car is a BMW 535i Touring. There will also be two Safety Bikes contributing to the safe running of race weekends: a BMW S 1000 RR and a BMW HP2 Sport. The ceremonial handover of the vehicles took place at BMW M in Garching-Hochbrück on 28th February 2011. It was on this occasion that Dr Kay Segler, Director of BMW M GmbH, and Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO Dorna Sports, made an advance announcement that the successful partnership would be extended until 2016, before sealing the agreement in a signing ceremony.

(from BMW Press Release) The BMW 1 Series M Coupe.

Inspiring through and through. The BMW 1 Series M Coupe.

The letter M now comes to the segment of the BMW 1 Series to symbolise outstanding power delivery and the highly dynamic driving properties of a high-performance sports car. In the BMW 1 Series M Coupe, the technology of a high-performance car is combined with the agility and lightness of a compact model to create a whole new dimension of sports-style driving pleasure. With this 2-door model, BMW M GmbH is now realising for the first time in this vehicle class its concept of racing-oriented performance characteristics in a car developed for everyday use . This further extends the company’s model range, paving the way for younger target groups to be able to access the hallmark driving experience offered by an M car.

The BMW 1 Series M Coupe embodies the unmistakable M feeling in a highly concentrated form. Its in-line 6-cylinder engine with M TwinPower Turbo and petrol direct injection develops a maximum output of 250 kW/340 bhp with an engine-speed-oriented characteristic curve typical of BMW M cars. With chassis technology derived directly from motor racing, a power-to-weight ratio reduced to 4.4 kilograms per bhp and precisely optimised aerodynamic components including innovative air curtains at the front end, supreme conversion of superior propulsion power into thrilling driving dynamics is guaranteed. The BMW 1 Series M Coupe accelerates in 4.9 seconds from zero to 100 km/h and reaches the 200 km/h mark after 17.3 seconds. In the area of efficiency, too, it achieves top figures within its performance category. Its average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle is 9.6 litres per 100 kilometres, while CO2 emissions are at 224 grams per kilometre.

The outstanding sporty flair of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe is outwardly expressed by the athletic character of its body design. In the exclusively designed interior of the 4-seater, high-quality materials and an M-specific cockpit create the ambience of a premium sports car. In its standard configuration, the BMW 1 Series M Coupe displays the concept harmony so characteristic of M cars: able to cope both with the extreme demands of the race track and the diverse challenges of everyday traffic. What is more, individual preferences in terms of comfort, safety and infotainment can be fulfilled with a model-specific selection of equipment options also available for the BMW 1 Series Coupe, including the BMW ConnectedDrive program.

Design: classic coupe proportions, M-style aesthetic appeal.

The dynamic proportions with which the BMW 1 Series Coupe proclaims a brand of driving pleasure unique within the competitive field provide the perfect foundation for the instantly fascinating appearance of the first ever high-performance model in the compact segment. Measuring 4,380 millimetres in length and 1,420 millimetres in height, the BMW 1 Series M Coupe is the both the shortest and the flattest model in the BMW M GmbH range. It is also 55 millimetres wider than the
BMW 135i Coupe: the width of 1,803 millimetres is the result and the expression of a track width at the front and rear axle optimised to enhance driving dynamics in a way which is specific to this model.

The design of the front end impressively reflects the outstanding performance capabilities of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe. The powerfully shaped front apron forms a homogeneous surface, dominated in the lower section by three large-format air intakes. In order to optimise the aerodynamic properties, so-called air curtains are used for the first time in serial production vehicle. The in-flowing air is routed into two ducts by means of openings in the outer section of the front apron. These openings are designed so that the air flows along the inside of the front apron in a closed duct to the wheel arches, where it is discharged through a very narrow opening at high speed, just passing the outer wheel flanks. The escaping air stream covers the side of the front wheels like a curtain, thereby reducing aerodynamically unfavourable turbulence around the wheel arches.

The BMW 1 Series M Coupe is fitted as standard with bi-xenon headlamps. The twin circular headlights characteristic of the brand are truncated in the upper section by an LED-fed positioning light. This is what creates the typical focussed look of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe.

With the greenhouse conveying an impression of lightness, the powerfully distinctive shoulder line and the elaborately sculpted surfaces symbolise precisely controllable athleticism from the side perspective. The wheel arches of the 2-door model bulge out especially voluminously at both the front and rear. One hallmark M feature is the chrome gill element on the front wheel arch which is particularly elongated. It bears both the side turn indicator and the M brand logo, as well as forming the starting point of the bead line running via the door openers to the rear. What is more, a vertical contour edge starts at the gill element which leads down to the side sill. Fine-tuning in the wind tunnel has also shaped the design of the exterior mirrors. In their basic shape they are the same as those of the BMW M3.

The powerfully arched wheel arches also make the rear of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe seem especially broad. Horizontally arranged lines accentuate this impression. A discreet spoiler lip on the luggage compartment lid generates additional downforce on the rear axle at high speeds. The rear apron has side openings which echo the look of the air intakes in the front apron. The characteristic M visual symmetry is created by chrome twin tailpipes, each positioned towards the outer edges. L-shaped rear light clusters with red glass covers create a characteristic night-time illumination. Inside these, the rear light is provided by two light banks fed by LED units.

The exterior paint finishes Alpine White non-metallic, Sapphire Black metallic and the exclusive Valencia Orange metallic are available for the BMW 1 Series M Coupe. The standard 19-inch M light alloy wheels in Y-spoke design provide perfect road contact and a striking appearance.

In-line 6-cylinder engine with M TwinPower Turbo and engine-speed-related
performance characteristics.

An in-line 6-cylinder engine with outstanding performance, sensational free-revving properties and long-lasting thrust provides the BMW 1 Series M Coupe with its power source for delivering supreme driving dynamics. The 3.0-litre power unit combines hallmark M performance characteristics with contemporary efficiency. It has been modified in M style so as to be able to handle the requirements of both everyday traffic and the race track. The result: with an engine output of 250 kW/340 bhp, the
BMW 1 Series M Coupe achieves almost exactly the level of the third-generation BMW M3, while in terms of driving dynamics this compact, top-flight athlete is clearly superior to the latter model, which was replaced just a few years ago.

The M TwinPower Turbo Technology used in the BMW 1 Series M Coupe consists of two relatively small turbochargers which, because of their low inertia moment, are active even at low engine speeds, each providing three cylinders with compressed air. This results in an unusually spontaneous level of responsiveness. The drivetrain provides its maximum torque of 450 newton metres at as little as 1500 rpm. This is available up into the 4500 rpm range and can be increased by another 50 newton metres in full throttle by means of an overboost function. The maximum level of 500 newton metres permits highly dynamic acceleration manoeuvres, and the forward thrust once again available after each gearshift makes for a linear speed increase typical of M vehicles. The engine reaches its maximum output at 5,980 rpm. With this engine-speed-related performance curve, the 6-cylinder power unit embodies the characteristic M properties of a high-performance engine: the BMW 1 Series M Coupe spurts in just 4.9 seconds from standing to 100 km/h, and the urge to accelerate is limited at 250 km/h by means of intervention in the engine control system.

The cooling system of the power unit is designed to enable it to do justice both to its outstanding performance potential and to the particularly high demands of constantly drawing on maximum power output. An additional separate radiator and a specific air duct deal with the increased thermal stress which can be generated by driving in a particularly sporty style on the race track.

The engine’s outstanding efficiency is mainly due to direct injection which allows for high-precision fuel supply by means of piezo injectors placed centrally between the valves. In addition, Efficient Dynamics measures such as brake energy regeneration and needs-based control of auxiliary units ensure that the average fuel consumption on the EU test cycle is limited to 9.6 litres per 100 kilometres and CO2 emissions to 224 grams per kilometre.

The transmission of propulsion power in the BMW 1 Series M Coupe is taken care of by a 6-speed manual transmission. This newly developed transmission is operated using a very short M gearshift lever.

Chassis technology: low weight, high rigidity.

The BMW 1 Series M Coupe has a chassis whose elements have run through BMW M GmbH’s racing-oriented development process. Numerous key components were originally conceived for the BMW M3 and are now to be found in the compact high-performance coupe in modified form specifically adapted to the new model. In creating the vehicle set-up, a procedure which includes test runs on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the interaction of the engine, chassis and body was optimised here again so as to create a characteristic, consistent overall set of properties taking into account the low vehicle weight of 1,495 kilograms.

Both the double pivot front axle and the five-link rear axle of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe are made almost entirely of aluminium. Tubular stabilisers, axle links made of forged aluminium and aluminium shock absorbers round off the lightweight construction concept as applied to wheel suspension.

As standard: variable M differential lock, compound brakes, DSC
with M Dynamic Mode, Servotronic.

The BMW 1 Series M Coupe is fitted as standard with a variable M differential lock. This generates lock-up torque as required and completely variably up to 100%, thus providing for optimum traction on all road surfaces. The variable M differential lock responds to differences in rotational speeds in the right and left rear wheel, redirecting drive torque within a fraction of a second. So where there are significant differences in friction coefficients between the right and left rear wheel, for example, optimum traction and maximum propulsion power are ensured. The principle of the engine-speed-sensing M differential lock supports the dynamic qualities of rear-wheel drive both on slippery surfaces and when accelerating out of bends.

The M-specific compound high-performance brake system of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe provides impressive stability even under extreme stress, as well as being extremely light. The design principle of the brake system is derived from motor racing and guarantees excellent deceleration figures with significantly reduced heat sensitivity. Their inner-vented and perforated grey cast iron discs with a diameter of 360 millimetres at the front and 350 millimetres at the rear are linked to the aluminium disc chamber on a floating basis by means of cast-in premium steel pins.

In the BMW 1 Series M Coupe, power transmission to the rear wheels also provides the ideal basis for thrilling driving dynamics due to the consistent separation of drivetrain and steering functions. The rack-and-pinion steering is fitted with the hydraulic power steering system Servotronic which regulates its supportive effect in relation to road speed.

The driving stability control system DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe includes such elements as the Antilock Brake System (ABS), an anti-slip control function (ASC), the brake assistant Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), a drive-off assistant, Cornering Brake Control (CBC), an anti-fading function and a dry brake function. In the wet or on slippery surfaces the driving stability system intervenes early on but discreetly so as to prevent oversteering. As an alternative to normal operating status, the driver can activate M Dynamic Mode (MDM) by means of a switch on the instrument panel, thereby raising the intervention threshold of the driving stability control system. This facilitates driving off on snow or loose sand by means of controlled slip. MDM also enables specifically applied, dynamic oversteering.

Exclusive and characteristically M: sports car ambience on the inside.

It is not least due to the exclusive interior design that the unmistakable M feeling can be sensed even before the engine is started. The characteristic M cockpit and a model-specific colour and materials concept create a style which perfectly recreates a sports car ambience. The standard sports seats in Boston leather offer both driver and front passenger excellent lateral hold even when taking bends in dynamic style. The design, created exclusively for the BMW 1 Series M Coupe, includes orange contrast stitching on the black surfaces of the seats and backrests as well as the M logo embossed in the front of the headrests.

It is characteristic of sports cars that dark colours dominate inside the vehicle, thereby enhancing the driver’s concentration on the road. In the BMW 1 Series M Coupe this effect is created by the anthracite-coloured BMW Individual roof liner but also by the exclusive design of the interior trim strips, door panels and cockpit scoop in dark Alcantara. These design elements also feature the orange-coloured contrast stitching, as do the gearshift and handbrake lever gaiter. An M driver footrest and M entry sills round off the exclusively styled interior.

The model-specific design of the characteristic M cockpit in the BMW 1 Series M Coupe also contributes to optimum vehicle control. In the instrument panel, grey dial faces for the tachometer and a speed indicator going up to 300 km/h with red needles are combined with white display illumination.

The M leather steering wheel, which also comes as standard, has multifunction keys for operating the audio and telephone systems. In addition, the characteristic M button on the right steering wheel spoke enables the driver to switch spontaneously to a sports-style vehicle set-up. This configuration activates a particularly sporty characteristic curve in the engine control. Here, accelerator pedal commands are implemented with greater spontaneity.

Extensive range of standard equipment, high-quality options
and innovative BMW ConnectedDrive features.

In addition to those features characteristic of M vehicles and other elements specific to this particular model which directly contribute to creating an exclusive driving experience in a high-performance sports car, the BMW 1 Series M Coupe also features an extensive range of standard equipment which underscores its premium character. The 2-door model shows its practical qualities with such features as four fully-fledged seats, a level of comfort which is geared towards covering lengthy distances and a luggage compartment with a capacity of 370 litres. Additional comfort needs can be fulfilled with a range of innovative options which are largely unique within the competitive field.

In addition to air conditioning and cruise control, the audio system BMW Radio Business with MP3-capable CD player and six speakers come as standard. Optional extras include two-zone automatic air conditioning, comfort access, a rain sensor, automatic anti-dazzle interior and exterior mirrors, the Harman Kardon Surround Sound System and the navigation system Professional with hard drive storage. In conjunction with the navigation system the BMW 1 Series M Coupe is fitted with the operating system iDrive which enables control of infotainment, navigation and communication functions using the Controller and an 8.8-inch Control Display.

The range of features available from the BMW ConnectedDrive development area includes the driver assistance systems Adaptive Headlight and High Beam Assistant as well as Park Distance Control with sensors at the rear. In addition to unlimited use of the internet, BMW ConnectedDrive also provides access to internet-based services to optimise navigation and entertainment functions. Innovative technologies to integrate mobile phones and music players are available for the BMW 1 M Series Coupe in combination with the navigation system Professional including mobile phone preparation. Thanks to the new interface technology, the latest generation of the Apple iPhone and the Apple iPod touch can be controlled via the iDrive menu. As the latest addition to the range of office functions also developed within the BMW ConnectedDrive program, owners of a BlackBerry smartphone by the mobile phone manufacturer RIM (Research In Motion) can now display e-mails on the vehicle monitor of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe via Bluetooth.

(from AC Schnitzer Press Release) Power Treatment for the Lifestyle Estate: The new BMW 5-series Touring with the “AC Schnitzer Effect”

The “most beautiful form of dynamics beyond the standard“ in saloon form was launched earlier this summer. Now the tuning specialist AC Schnitzer has applied the “Power Treatment” to the new dynamic BMW in the Touring variant, with numerous special accessories. At the same time, the product range for the saloon has been expanded to include aerodynamic components for M-Technik vehicles.

BMW has given the new 5-series Touring more load volume and flexibility. The specialists from Aachen have been even more generous – they have taken a step further in terms of driving dynamics and driving pleasure. The core of the upgraded Bavarian models is the AC Schnitzer performance upgrades. After conversion, the BMW 530d develops an impressive 286 HP and thus leaves nothing to be desired in terms of power. The uprated 535d now accelerates with an impressive 360 HP, while the 520d and 525d develop a powerful 218 HP and 245 HP respectively. The AC Schnitzer engine styling with capacity logo shows just what is concealed below the bonnet.

And what is the perfect complement to the sporting looks of a BMW? A powerful sound. The
AC Schnitzer twin sports rear silencer with chromed “Sports Trim“ tailpipe trims (left/right) will soon be available for the 550i, 535i, 535d, 530d and 520d. Already the chromed “Racing“ tailpipe trim is available for the 520d, 525d and 530d. So the BMW reveals its dynamics right through to the rear.

The “Power Treatment” in the “AC Schnitzer workshop” is evident on the vehicle from a few meters away. This is thanks to the new Aerodynamic components for Touring and saloon with M-Technik upgrade. The front spoiler elements and chromed front grille harmoniously integrate into the fundamental design, and highlight the emphatically sporting style of the vehicle.
AC Schnitzer side skirt elements (for vehicles without M-Technik upgrade) are also available as an option with chrome design elements which give the 5-series an even more stunning appearance. The bonnet vents provide the necessary air supply below the bonnet. For the rear of the Touring and saloon, AC Schnitzer has of course developed various elements. Both saloon and Touring can be fitted with a dynamics-enhancing rear roof spoiler. The special rear spoiler for the saloon is trimmed for minimum drag. A further aesthetic enhancement to the rear is achieved with the rear skirt insert for drivers of the 5-series Touring (with M-Technik upgrade). The equivalent on the saloon (without M-Technik upgrade) is the matching rear skirt attachment. The new rear skirt protective foil with AC Schnitzer Logo protects – as it says on the tin – both versions against scratches.

The hand of the BMW specialist has also been laid on the suspension. A new suspension spring kit is available which gives an improved balance between sports performance and driving comfort. In conjunction with the suspension, AC Schnitzer wheels with the corresponding tyres provide optimum springing comfort and the unmistakeable athletic appearance. The wheels are available in sizes from 18 to 21 inch in various designs: Type IV silver, Type IV BiColor, Type V forged alloy wheels in BiColor and Type VIII BiColor, and the brand-new Type VIII racing forged rims.

Finally, the Aachen tuning specialist has also upgraded the interior of the 5-series Touring. Carbon interior trim in black “Exclusive“ is available. The driver can “lay hands” on the
AC Schnitzer sports airbag steering wheel and as an option, also the carbon steering wheel spokes in black “Exclusive“. The iDrive System Controller is available with aluminium cover, and pedals and footrests also come in aluminium. Foot mats and a boot mat of velours complete the interior range.

In the best cases, treatment has a permanently improving effect on people. The effect of the Aachen Power Treatment is visible and perceptible on the BMW 5-series Touring, and is known as the “AC Schnitzer Effect”.

(from BMW Press Release) Captivating from the outside, magnificent from the inside. The new BMW 6 Series Convertible.

Munich. Words such as “breathtaking”, “irresistible” and “flawless” pepper the history history of BMW convertibles. And now the brand has added a new chapter to a tradition of open-top cars that stretches back decades. The new BMW 6 Series Convertible fulfils the wishes of discerning automotive aesthetes with its finely honed sense for sporty driving pleasure, groundbreaking luxury and sparkling looks. In the exclusive environs of the premium convertible market, the 2+2-seater makes a convincing case for itself with the most efficient engines, most advanced chassis technology and most innovative comfort, infotainment and safety features in its segment.

A sweeping bonnet, set-back passenger compartment, long wheelbase and flat waistline embody the hallmark proportions of a BMW convertible. The new BMW 6 Series Convertible combines these features with a classic soft-top roof in customary “fin” design. Powerfully contoured surfaces and the surging dynamism of its lines promise assured driving properties. The luxurious ambience of the interior is highlighted by the driver-oriented cockpit set-up and wraps the front passenger and rear passengers in a feeling of exclusive security. Nowhere is the high-class functionality of the interior underlined more prominently than in the redesigned freestanding Control Display of the standard-fitted iDrive control system.

The new BMW 6 Series Convertible is available with two engine variants from launch. The eight-cylinder powerplant in the BMW 650i Convertible produces 300 kW/407 hp, while an exclusive variant of the six-cylinder in-line engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo, direct injection and VALVETRONIC –generating 235 kW/320 hp – has been developed for the BMW 640i Convertible. Both engines team up as standard with an eight-speed Sports automatic gearbox. Standard-fitted BMW EfficientDynamics features include the Auto Start-Stop function in the BMW 640i Convertible.

Chassis technology unmatched in its segment works in tandem with the cutting-edge engines to ensure even greater dynamic capability and a similarly discernible improvement in ride comfort compared to its predecessor. The new BMW 6 Series Convertible comes as standard with Drive Dynamic Control, which allows drivers to choose their own suspension settings, while the Adaptive Drive system is available as an option with electrically controlled dampers and roll stabilisation. In addition to the standard-fitted electromechanical power steering, another unique feature in this segment is the optional Integral Active Steering system.

The new BMW 6 Series Convertible also underlines its progressive character with numerous BMW ConnectedDrive features that none of its rivals can match. The selection of optional driver assistance systems includes a rear-view camera, Surround View, BMW Night Vision with pedestrian recognition and BMW Parking Assistant. The new BMW 6 Series Convertible is the only car in its segment to be available with a Head-Up Display. Making its debut in the new soft top, the latest generation of the system uses a broader palette of colours and three-dimensional graphics to create an even sharper image.

The design: athletic elegance, natural sportiness and sparkling looks.

The luxurious yet dynamic driving experience of the new BMW 6 Series Convertible is reflected in the athletic elegance and sense-tingling sportiness of its exterior design. A long, sweeping bonnet, set-back passenger compartment, long wheelbase and flat waistline combine to create the proportions typical of a BMW convertible. The precise interplay of eye-catching lines and meticulously sculpted surfaces help to give the new BMW 6 Series Convertible its arresting looks.

Like the lines projecting out from the nose of the car and continuing along its full length, the harmoniously curved surfaces of the body take their cue from the movement of waves sent out by a the bow of a motor boat piercing the water. Continuing the theme, the waistline surface which leads the body into the interior mimics the character of a boat deck.

The front end: surging forward and focusing on the road.

The new BMW 6 Series Convertible also displays its dynamic character in its front end design. The large, slightly forward-slanting BMW kidney grille – its “shark nose” – gives the car a sense of surging forward, while a broad air intake, strikingly contoured bonnet and muscular wheel arches hint at its powerful engine technology and impressive roadholding. High-quality chrome elements positioned on the outer edges of the front apron further accentuate the width of the car. The optional foglamps consisting of a string of three LED units are placed in front of these chrome elements.

The standard xenon headlights of the new BMW 6 Series Convertible pick up on the brand’s familiar “twin round” look. As standard, an accent strip cuts across the top of them; this is replaced by an LED accent light if the optional Adaptive Headlights are specified. The daytime running lights take the form of LED light rings, whose bright white light illuminates the distinctive front end look. A horizontal light strip below the daytime running lights, meanwhile, performs direction indicator duties.

Side view: elongated lines, athletic curves.

Uninterrupted, flowing lines lend the silhouette of the BMW 6 Series Convertible a sweeping elegance. Powerful curves mimicking the natural movement of waves give the car’s side view a natural athleticism. The hallmark BMW swage line at door handle level is spawned in the front wheel arch gill – which houses the side indicator – and extends all the way back into the rear lights.

Another character line is released from the bulge of the front wing, stretching powerfully over the front wheel like a wave before dropping down and continuing horizontally towards the rear. Together with the swage line, it creates a dynamic wedge shape which emphasises the car’s forward-surging character.

The striking V-shape and accentuated width of the rear end create a powerful appearance.

Wide and flat surfaces define the rear of the new BMW 6 Series Convertible. The dominance of horizontal lines adds extra emphasis to the wider track of the new car compared to its predecessor. In addition, downward-converging lines underline the car’s focus on the road, echoing the approach at the front end. This distinctive V-shape is created by lines including the side edges of the boot lid, the licence plate surround and the contours of the reflectors positioned in the bumper. The slightly concave lower section of the boot lid produces light and shade effects which lend an extra lightness to the rear of the car.

The two-part rear light clusters give the brand’s familiar L-shape a particularly sporty, dynamic edge. Inside the units, two LED-powered light strips create the familiar BMW night-time look. The indicators and brake lights are also LED units.

The interior: seats for four – and each one made to measure.

The new BMW 6 Series Convertible is designed to be a 2+2-seater. Its interior offers individually tailored seats for the driver, front passenger and rear passengers. High-quality materials, carefully coordinated colours and, once again, meticulously formed surfaces combine to produce an ambience defined by luxury, sweeping dynamism and stylish functionality. A hallmark BMW element of the interior design is the driver-oriented cockpit layout. The central section of the instrument panel, containing the iDrive system’s Control Display, the central air vents and the controls for the audio system and air conditioning, are all angled slightly towards the driver. Added to which, the gearshift lever and the buttons for the parking brake, roof operation and Drive Dynamic Control are located on a surface that opens out towards the driver and is set lower than the front passenger side of the centre console.

The front passenger area is bordered by a surface curving elegantly from the armrest over the side edge of the centre console, upwards and outwards into the instrument panel and then horizontally into the door trim. This provides a harmonious surround for the front passenger area, creating a feeling of exclusive security. The contour of the rear waistline surface, which extends slightly into the interior between the head restraints, highlights the individual seat layout of the rear.

Premiere: freestanding Control Display with flatscreen design.

The black-panel instrument cluster of the new BMW 6 Series Convertible combines the traditional sports car circular instruments with state-of-the-art display technology. The navigation system, telephone and entertainment functions are operated using the standard-fitted iDrive control system, whose Control Display boasts an innovative design. The on-board monitor takes the form of a freestanding display for the first time in the new BMW 6 Series Convertible. The standard 7-inch screen can be upgraded to 10.2 inches by ordering the optional Navigation system Professional, and the larger screen has a high-quality galvanised chrome surround. The minimal depth of the display gives it the character of a flatscreen unit. The new arrangement of the Control Display – which now reaches further into the passenger compartment – also influences the architecture of the instrument panel, which rises up steeply in front of the driver and front passenger in the style of a powerboat cockpit

This impression is further enhanced by the structure of the door trim panels. Their surfaces have a powerfully taut look and, like the black waistline surface, pull in and rise up to create a smooth transition into the instrument panel, giving the interior the effect of wrapping around the driver and front passenger.

Exclusive and distinctive: the fin roof.

The new BMW 6 Series Convertible again comes with an electrically powered soft-top roof with “fin” architecture. The multi-layer roof – which has been optimised once again in terms of its acoustic properties and structural rigidity – offers outstanding thermal insulation and thus enables the new convertible to be used comfortably all year round. The fins project out along the flanks of the 6 Series into its rear section, accentuating the car’s gracefully sweeping silhouette even more keenly than on its predecessor and giving it an unmistakable appearance. The upshot is that the transition of the roof line into the rear end flows as smoothly as on a hard-top coupé. The upright, heated, glass rear window is positioned directly behind the rear seats and can be lowered separately from the roof.

The automatic opening and closing operation for the roof is activated as standard using a button on the centre console. The Comfort Access option allows the process to be initiated using the remote control button on the car key. Opening the roof takes 19 seconds, the closing process 24 seconds. Both operations can be activated while on the move at speeds of up to 40 km/h (25 mph).

The fin roof of the new BMW 6 Series Convertible is available in three colour variants, including new Anthracite Silver effect, which adds a stylish lustre. Two non-metallic exterior paint finishes and seven metallic shades are available. As an alternative to the standard Dakota leather trim, customers can also specify the Exclusive Nappa leather variant which can be ordered in four colour options. As well as the instrument panel, the centre console and the upper sections of the rear door panel and side trim can also be lined with Exclusive Nappa leather as an option. Plus, interior elements covered with Exclusive Nappa leather can also be ordered with optional stitching in a contrasting colour. The double stitching stands out from the leather surface, lending a particularly elegant flourish to the design of the interior.

Optimised seat comfort; boot capacity can be expanded as required.

At 4,894 millimetres (192.6 in.) in length, the new BMW 6 Series Convertible is 74 millimetres (2.9 in.) longer than its predecessor. Its similarly extended wheelbase now stretches to 2,855 millimetres (112.4 in.). The car has also grown by 39 millimetres (1.5 in.) in width, and now measures 1,894 millimetres (74.5 in.) across, while 9 millimetres (0.35 in.) have been shaved off its height (now 1,365 mm / 53.7 in.). These dimensions not only create a significantly more powerful and, at the same time, elegantly sweeping overall impression, they also take interior spaciousness to new levels. Despite its lower height, the new BMW 6 Series Convertible offers greater headroom in both the front and the rear. Added to which, the height adjustment of the driver and front passenger seats cover a greater range. The increase in the width of the interior is noticeable from all four seats, and passengers in the rear seats also benefit from additional legroom. The tilt angle of the rear seat backrest has seen further optimisation over the predecessor model and now achieves virtually the same angle as you will find in BMW saloons.

A ski bag with an opening in the rear seat backrest is available as an option and offers space for two sets of skis. The new BMW 6 Series Convertible boasts 300 litres (10.6 cu. ft.) of boot space with the roof open, allowing two 46-inch golfbags and a business case to be accommodated. With the roof closed, the variable soft-top stowage compartment can be folded up in a single movement to increase boot capacity to 350 litres (12.3 cu. ft.).

Newly developed lightweight seats, comprehensive safety equipment.

The new BMW 6 Series Convertible is fitted with newly developed lightweight seats with an integrated seatbelt system, and the seats are available in three variants. As an alternative to the standard items, customers can also order sports seats with integral head restraints or comfort seats with a wider range of adjustment. All seat variants come with crash-activated head restraints.

The range of standard safety equipment also includes front airbags, head-thorax side airbags integrated into the seat frame, three-point automatic belts for all seats, belt force limiters and front belt tensioners, ISOFIX child seat mounts in the rear and a roll-over protection system. The roll-over system further developed specifically for the new BMW 6 Series Convertible consists of two bars placed behind the rear head restraints. As soon as the central safety electronics register a danger of the car rolling over, the pyrotechnic release mechanism is activated, at which point the high-strength aluminium bars rise up from their rest position in a fraction of a second.

Carefully targeted advances in the use of materials and in the development of the car’s load-bearing structure have significantly enhanced the body’s construction in terms of the agility and safety it offers. Its static torsional rigidity is now around 50 per cent greater than that of its predecessor. In the interests of weight optimisation, the doors, bonnet and front axle spring mounts are all aluminium, while the front side panels, roof lid and boot are made from glass fibre composite.

Majestic power: eight- and six-cylinder engines with BMW TwinPower Turbo.

Instantaneous power development and majestic torque are the stand-out features of the two engines available for the new BMW 6 Series Convertible from launch. The V8 powerplant and six-cylinder in-line unit both have BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and direct injection, and combine their sporting character with outstanding smoothness and exceptional efficiency.

The 4.4-litre eight-cylinder engine in the new BMW 650i Convertible develops a maximum 300 kW/407 hp between 5,500 and 6,400 rpm, and puts its peak torque of 600 Newton metres (443 lb-ft) on tap between 1,750 and 4,500 rpm. This unique engine, whose turbochargers are positioned in the V-shaped area between the cylinder banks, produces an instantaneous and sustained wave of power, making it a feast for the enthusiast driver. The new BMW 650i Convertible completes the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.0 seconds, and the engine electronics eventually step in to halt acceleration at 250 km/h (155 mph). This range-topping engine also boasts extraordinary efficiency for a model in its output class, as average fuel consumption of 10.7 litres per 100 kilometres in the EU test cycle (26.4 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions of 249 grams per kilometre clearly show.

The six-cylinder in-line engine under the bonnet of the new BMW 640i Convertible complements its BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and petrol direct injection with VALVETRONIC fully variable valve control. All of which enables the 3.0-litre unit to develop a maximum 235 kW/320 hp at 5,800 rpm and maximum torque of 450 Newton metres (332 lb-ft) between 1,300 and 4,500 rpm. This engine propels the BMW 640i Convertible from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.7 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). Its average fuel economy in the EU test cycle comes in at 7.9 litres per 100 kilometres (35.8 mpg imp), while CO2 emissions are 185 grams per kilometre.

Eight-speed Sports automatic and BMW EfficientDynamics as standard.

The eight-speed Sports automatic gearbox fitted as standard in the new BMW 6 Series Convertible boasts a combination of sportiness, shift comfort and efficiency unmatched in its segment. Its minimal converter slip and rapid and precise gear changes set it apart from the crowd. An innovative gear set configuration allows this transmission to offer eight gears and a correspondingly wide gear range – which optimises the car’s sprinting power yet also allows the driver to save fuel by driving at low revs – despite its compact construction and low weight. The driver can also change gear manually using shift paddles on the steering wheel.

In addition to the efficiency of the engines and eight-speed Sports automatic, an extensive range of BMW EfficientDynamics measures also contribute to reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Technology such as Brake Energy Regeneration, Electric Power Steering (EPS), the need-based operation of ancillary components, intelligent lightweight construction and low-rolling-resistance tyres ensure maximum efficiency. Plus, the new BMW 640i Convertible is also equipped with automatic active air flap control and the Auto Start-Stop function. When the driver draws to a standstill at junctions or in a traffic jam the engine is automatically switched off. As soon as the driver releases the brake pedal, the engine starts up again. If the driver is using the Auto Hold function, the engine is restarted when the accelerator is depressed.

Advanced chassis technology including Electric Power Steering;
Integral Active Steering available as an option.

Cutting-edge chassis technology gives the new BMW 6 Series Convertible the tools it needs to lay on sporty handling characteristics and exceptional comfort. Both the double track control arm and the integral rear axle are made predominantly from aluminium. The chassis set-up is geared to the requirements of drivers with sporting intentions, although the dampers also respond sensitively to bumps in the road surface under high lateral acceleration. The optional Adaptive Drive system, which includes Dynamic Damper Control and the Dynamic Drive active roll stabilisation system, offers the driver even more precise responses. The electronically controlled dampers adapt to both the nature of the road surface and the driver’s style to prevent unwanted movements in the car body. The roll stabilisation system reduces factors such as body sway in fast-driven corners and sudden direction changes.

Electric Power Steering with Servotronic serves up the familiar BMW recipe of precision, comfort and efficiency, and is unique in the BMW 6 Series Convertible’s segment. Added to which, the new BMW 6 Series Convertible is the first car in its class that can be ordered – as an option – with Integral Active Steering. This system combines the Active Steering system for the front axle already available for the predecessor model with a steering rear axle, allowing the steering angle and power assistance to be controlled at both the front and the rear with the help of electric motors. Precisely harmonised wheel turns pave the way for extraordinary agility in dynamic driving situations. And Integral Active Steering also displays an impressively deft touch around twisty mountain passes and in city traffic.

Drive Dynamic Control allows a choice of suspension settings.

With Drive Dynamic Control the virtues of sportiness and comfort can take precedence as the situation demands. The driver can make his own choice of suspension settings in NORMAL, SPORT and SPORT+ modes using a button on the centre console. If the Adaptive Drive option has been specified, he can also make use of the COMFORT setting. In this mode, as well as adjusting the accelerator pedal progression, engine responses, power steering characteristics, DSC response thresholds and the shift dynamics of the automatic gearbox, Drive Dynamic Control also tweaks the damper responses and roll stabilisation settings. On cars fitted with Integral Active Steering, the basic steering set-up is also adjusted according to the mode selected, not just the level of power assistance. As a result, in SPORT and SPORT+ modes the car’s sporting responses are sharpened even further.

The lightweight floating-calliper brakes with inner-vented discs are easy to use with precision, and their effectiveness is reinforced by Dynamic Stability Control (DSC). This driving stability system brings together technology such as the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), the Start-off Assistant, the automatic Brake Drying function and brake fade compensation. Standard equipment also includes 18-inch light-alloy wheels on the new BMW 650i Convertible or 17-inch rims for the new BMW 640i Convertible, as well as runflat tyres and a runflat indicator.

Cutting-edge comfort-enhancing features and exclusive options from BMW ConnectedDrive.

Among the comfort-enhancing features included as standard in the new BMW 6 Series Convertible are 2-zone automatic climate control with convertible mode, a hi-fi audio system with CD player and AUX-IN socket, a multifunction steering wheel, electrically operated front seats with memory function and a rain sensor with integrated automatic driving lights control. Among the highlights of the optional equipment list are Adaptive Headlights, a heated steering wheel, active seat ventilation, active seats and the Navigation system Professional with a hard disk for storing maps and personal music collections.

The new BMW 6 Series Convertible is available with an even greater variety of driver assistance systems and mobility services from BMW ConnectedDrive. It can be ordered with technology such as the Lane Change Warning System, Lane Departure Warning System, Speed Limit Info, BMW Night Vision with pedestrian recognition, rear-view camera, Surround View and the BMW Parking Assistant. Innovative technologies optimise the integration of the Apple iPhone and other smartphones, as well as music players. And, in addition to internet access, BMW ConnectedDrive also allows email messages received on a smartphone to be shown on the Control Display as well as the use of internet-based services for navigation and entertainment.

What’s more, the latest-generation Head-Up Display – a unique feature in this class – is making its debut in the new BMW 6 Series Convertible. The system projects driving-related information onto the windscreen within the driver’s direct field of view. The three-dimensional graphics are now displayed using a full spectrum of colours, allowing real-life traffic symbols to be accurately depicted.

The BMW 6 Series Convertible: exclusive driving pleasure and a unique heritage.

The new BMW 6 Series Convertible sees the world’s most successful manufacturer of premium cars building on an unparalleled tradition. The allure of exclusive driving pleasure in open-top BMW sports cars continues to hold a magnetic attraction after more than 70 years. The extraordinary history of BMW convertibles stretches from the legendary BMW 328 – which provided the basis for the winning car in the 1940 Mille Miglia – via the highly coveted BMW 507 of the 1950s, to the dynamic and groundbreaking predecessor to the new BMW 6 Series Convertible.

The new BMW 6 Series Convertible is built at the BMW plant in Dingolfing, Germany. Also rolling off the assembly line at the BMW Group’s largest production plant are the BMW 7 Series and BMW 5 Series models. The flexible and efficient processes at the plant combine state-of-the-art production technology with a standard of quality defined by meticulous craftsmanship in the manufacture of premium cars configured to customer requirements.

(from RENM Press Release) RENM BMW E92 M3 Agitator

RENM performance has released a visually striking performance upgrade for the BMW E92 M3 called the ‘Agitator’. According to most definitions, an agitator stirs up others in order to upset the status quo, or put more simply, is an apparatus that shakes or stirs. Based on both the appearance and performance improvements of the RENM Agitator, the transformation achieves the desired effect.

The E92 M3 is a capable performer in standard form, however its performance is compromised by restrictive OEM components. The Agitator package transforms the E92 M3’s performance with vastly improved driving dynamics. The tuning program consists of an ECU re-calibration, inconel high-performance exhaust, carbon fiber air-intake, sports air filters and adjustable ride height/dampening suspension.

Power has been raised from 420PS/309KW/400NM to 450PS/331KW/440NM. RENM states that peak power was not the main objective, focusing instead to distribute a more linear and usable spread of power across the entire power band, particularly the lower to mid-range, where the engine lacks responsive in standard form.

The M3 Agitator uses inconel Formula 1 exhaust technology, which is exceptional in terms of its extreme stability and heat resistance. The rear silencer is also twelve kilograms lighter, a 40% weight-reduction over the production model, and incorporates internal design that increases performance significantly.

The visual and dynamic improvements to the M3 Agitator include customised T6 forged 3 piece wheels, adjustable coilover suspension, hallmark-designed 76mm diameter tail pipes, aero carbon fiber front spoiler, boot lid and rear diffuser.

For more information on the RENM E92 M3 Agitator, contact RENM performance at

(from G-Power Press Release) First there was the “small” TYPHOON body kit; now here comes the “big” TYPHOON wide body kit for the BMW X5 M. Thanks to optimised air flow and up to 15 % more cooling, the G-POWER body kit clears the way for an increase in the base output of the 4.4 l V8 bi-turbo power unit of 170 hp to no less than 725 hp. Muscular flared wheel arches plus distinctive skirts and spoilers on the front and rear trimmed for maximum aerodynamic efficiency define the look of the G-POWER X5 M TYPHOON. The body kit in original equipment quality made from PU RIM was developed by G-POWER designers using state-of-the-art CAD technology. The base vehicle was fully digitised in-house with a 3D scanner.

The elegant sweep of the flared G-POWER wheel arches front and rear – which, of course, come with perfectly matched inner panels – give the X5 M seven centimetres more width, making room for extra-wide 23-inch wheels and tyres. The top-end version comes with G-POWER SILVERSTONE RS forged wheels developed specifically for the TYPHOON, with 11Jx23 format up front and 12Jx23 on the rear. Each corner sports 315/25 ZR 23 high-performance rubber from development partner Michelin, delivering optimum traction and sporty handling that is further enhanced by the G-POWER sports suspension and a 30 mm lower ride height.

Together with the flared wheel arches, the face of the exclusive SUV is distinguished largely by the G-POWER TYPHOON front skirt designed entirely in-house. The large air intakes not only improve overtaking prestige, they also guarantee optimum cooling of the engine and front brakes. Moreover, design refinements succeeded in reducing aerodynamic lift on the front axle.

The sills on the TYPHOON serve not only as aerodynamically efficient transitions between the front and rear flares, they also house five LED units on each side that illuminate the ground on each side of the vehicle when activated either by remote control or by pulling the door handle. Along the upper surfaces, stainless steel inserts integrate a G-POWER logo also illuminated in blue.

Like the front section, the rear skirt on the TYPHOON is conceived to completely replace the production-standard bumper. The diffuser has an imposing impact on the rear view, as do the two distinctive 114 mm tailpipes on the G-POWER stainless steel sports silencer. Together with the spoiler fixed to the rear hatch, which adds visual length to the roofline, minimal lift has been achieved at the rear axle, too. A further example of the detailed refinements in the design of the G-POWER TYPHOON Wide Version for the BMW X5 M is the four-part underbody panelling.

In keeping with the dynamic look, G-POWER offers a mighty power unit for the BMW X5 M. Thanks to the enlarged air intakes in the front skirt and the outlet vents in the bonnet, there is an improved flow of cooling air to the radiator and oil cooler at the front of the vehicle, increasing cooling performance by around 15%. This establishes the basis for a thermally balanced performance increase achieved by electronic optimisation developed by G-POWER and involving changes to the engine mapping including removal of the top speed limiter. On the exhaust side, a fully stainless steel G-POWER system delivers the necessary reduction in exhaust back pressure featuring a set of sport catalytic converters and most important a set of flow optimized G-POWER exhaust manifolds connecting the turbochargers. In addition, optimised connection pipes have also been installed between the turbochargers and the cylinder heads to minimise pressure and thermodynamic losses. The outcome is an additional 170 hp, taking the overall output to an impressive 725 hp at 6,000 r/min and 890 Nm of torque at 1,500 r/min. The maximum torque is electronically limited. In combination with a reinforcement of the standard BMW X6 M automatic transmission a torque maximum of 1000 Nm can be provided.

The enormous potential of the G-POWER modified BMW V8 bi-turbo power unit endows the X5 M with on-the-road performance that catapults it into the elite group at the very top of this vehicle class. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h lasts only 4.2 seconds, with the top speed at over 300 km/h.

G-POWER has refined the interior of the BMW X5 M with exclusive accessories like an ergonomically designed sports steering wheel, a G-POWER speedometer and fine carbon-fibre trim on the side panels, centre console and dashboard. Further preferences can be fulfilled with exclusive interiors in all shades of leather and Alcantara.

(from Lumma Design Press Release) Luxurious broad image: LUMMA Design provides BMW 7 Series with broad-scoped aerodynamics package

•Unique wide construction for Munich luxury limousine
•Genuine carbon plus 22 inch wheels for enhanced sportiness
•Refined aluminium interior

LUMMA Design gives the BMW 7 Series a wider look. The unique aerodynamics package lends the luxury limousine a more self-assured appearance, without neglecting the Munich model’s elegant design or making it come across as flashy. Selected applications made from genuine carbon and 22 inch light alloy wheels ensure that the BMW with its noble finish exhibits independence while staying true to its sportiness. Aluminium in the interior lends an individual touch.

The fact that LUMMA Design has a sense of BMW’s design language already becomes apparent in the front spoiler bumper. The curvature of the bonnet and the kidney front grille find their match in the new LUMMA front, which integrates grid inserts, fog lights and LED daytime running lights. The new shapely look is completed by the cup spoiler sword.

The ten-piece wheels arch extensions are key to the new sporty appearance: the luxury limousine becomes significantly wider, ensuring a dominant appearance. The door attachments and rear apron corners make for harmonious integration of the extension set and the full aerodynamics package.

LUMMA Design offers a set of deep door-sills that has been designed especially for the BMW 7 Series with its extended wheelbase, so as to bridge the parameterisation of the wheels arch extensions.

The aerodynamics package is completed by the new rear diffuser. Besides ensuring additional downforce, the diffuser highlights the sporty aspiration of the refined limousine.

The dynamic appearance of the LUMMA BMW is enhanced even further by the genuine carbon applications produced by the refining experts in Germany. These include exterior mirror caps, the kidney front grille frame, all door handle covers, the boot lid trim and the four-piece pillar trim set for doors and mud guards.

Naturally the wheels also contribute to the more sporty appearance. The impressive 22-inch light alloy rims are fitted with 265/30 high-performance Vredestein tyres in the front and 295/25 in the rear.

In addition, selected LUMMA Design improvements make for an upgraded interior. The aluminium two-piece pedal set with matching footrest provides the driver footwell with a superior look. Foot mats in the colour of the customer’s choice featuring the embroidered LUMMA crest logo are also available for the large BMW, as is a boot mat in any colour, also featuring the embroidered logo.

Except for the deep door-sills, which are provided exclusively for the model with extended wheelbase, the construction extension, carbon applications, wheels and interior components fit all BMW 7 Series models. Obviously the required TÜV approval is included in every LUMMA Design delivery. Alternatively, the upgrade experts will perform the conversion at their head office in Winterlingen, Germany, including TÜV registration.
