(from Mansory Press Release) MANSORY tweaks trident –Exclusive tuning programme for Maserati GranTurismo and GranTurismo S.

MANSORY has long been known has the specialist for refining luxury automobiles. Now, the company from Brand in Bavaria has added an additional traditional brand to their tuning portfolio. The stylish and sporty conversion of the Maserati GranTurismo is once again proof of the fact that MANSORY has excellent know-how when it comes to customising Italian premium sports cars. Besides, the star, Emily, Flying B, leaping race horse, Bugatti oval and Aston wings, MANSORY products now also adorn sports cars with Neptune’s trident.

In the first instance, the eye is drawn to the striking MANSORY bodywork modifications: a newly designed front spoiler with discreet spoiler lip gives the front a significantly more sporty appearance, and the carbon fibre radiator grille highlights the famous Maserati trident in the centre of the grille. Additional air inlets and outlets enable the new light-construction bonnet to optimally regulate the temperature in the V8 engine compartment. The GranTurismo seems much closer to the tarmac thanks to the drawn-down deep door-sills. The carbon fibre spoiler lip at the back, the carbon inlay for the integrated exhaust pipes in the rear apron and a diffuser complete the sporty look. All add-on parts are made from carbon fibre and are manufactured by MANSORY using autoclave prepreg processing.

To ensure extra focus to the sporty add-on parts, MANSORY uses progressive sport suspension in the front and rear axles, which lower the vehicle’s centre of gravity by around 30 millimetres. Contact to the tarmac is maintained by 255/30 R 20 front tyres and 305/30 R 21 tyres at the back. MANSORY is the first manufacturer worldwide to market forged wheels exclusively for Maserati GranTurismo models. On request of the customer, these wheels are sprayed in the colour of the vehicle and decorated with black accents.

The Maserati GranTurismo and GranTurismo S also gain power under the bonnet, thanks to MANSORY. A performance-optimised ECU, an air filter with increased air throughput and a sports exhaust system with two double-suction tail pipes enhance the performance of the V8 aggregates by 30 HP each (series: GT 405 HP / GTS 440 HP). At the same time, the torque is increased by around 40 Nm compared to the series models (GT 460 Nm at 4750 / GTS 490 Nm at 4750).

The interior features MANSORY’s own brand of upholstery. The finest materials have been processed in traditional top-quality craftsmanship to add that individual touch to the inside of the MANSORY GranTurismo. The leather used by MANSORY for the interior is hard-wearing yet exceptionally soft. The chequered stitch in the ornamental seams on the inside makes for elegance as well as sportiness. Wherever you look: expert handcraft, individual design and top quality. The aluminium pedals and new ergonomically designed sporty steering wheel are additional visual highlights.

For the family-man or soccer-mom, three full rows of seating are implemented into the new design.
Press Release:

Dodge Brand Product Onslaught Begins: Introducing the All-new 2011 Dodge Durango, the Performance SUV with a Soul

September 2, 2010 , Auburn Hills, Mich. –

Buckle in and hold tight. Dodge is jumping back into the sport utility (SUV) segment with the 2011 Dodge Durango, a three-row vehicle spacious enough to carry the entire crew and performance-tuned to thrill anyone who truly loves to drive. Durango will lead the Dodge brand’s new product onslaught for 2011.

From its sleek exterior design to its modern, spacious interior, and intelligent, fuel-efficient and powerful powertrain options, the 2011 Dodge Durango is all-new from the inside out. And the changes are more than skin deep. The Durango’s stiffened unibody structure is engineered with the driving enthusiast in mind. The end result is a vehicle that delivers premium driving performance combined with SUV capability and crossover versatility.

The all-new Durango features two engine options: the standard fuel-efficient 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine and the available 5.7-liter HEMI engine with fuel-saving, Multi-displacement system (MDS) four-cylinder mode. Both engines feature variable-valve timing (VVT) and are available with all-wheel drive. In addition to great efficiency, the engines provide exceptional V-6 and V-8 towing capability with standard trailer sway control (V-8 – 7,400 lbs. and Best-in-class V-6 – 6,200 lbs.). When equipped with the HEMI® V-8, the all-new Durango can tow more weight than a 24-foot boat and trailer.

The Durango’s all-new interior is a surprise owners always deserved but never expected. Created by the same interior design studio that designed the much-lauded interior in the Ram trucks and the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Durango’s luxurious interior materials and thoughtful touches will make owners and their crews want to jump in, hunker down and thoroughly enjoy even the longest drive. Everywhere they touch, Durango passengers will feel materials that are refined and soft to the touch. Not only is it a pleasure to behold, it is extremely functional and gives owners a first-class experience, regardless of the trim level. Durango’s interior is also extremely comfortable for all three rows of passengers, and there’s a surprising amount of interior flexibility. With 22 different seating configurations, there’s plenty of room to store and move plenty of people and their gear.

The all-new 2011 Dodge Durango also offers consumers 45 safety and security features, including standard front seat-mounted side air bags and standard side-curtain air bags that cover passengers in all three rows, as well as all-new standard active head restraints. Electronic Stability Control also is standard. Other available safety and security technologies include Blind-spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path detection, Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control and Keyless Enter-n’ Go.

The best part is, consumers will get all of the all-new Durango’s capability, functionality and flexibility and still get excellent fuel efficiency. In fact, drivers can go more than 500 miles, that’s the distance from San Diego to San Francisco or from Detroit to New York City, without having to stop for fuel.

Built at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit, Mich., the new 2011 Dodge Durango arrives in showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Engine downsizing seems to be the new trend in today’s auto market, and Mercedes-Benz is no outcast. The new 2011 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG will carry their new twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8. Although size has decreased, efficiency has overpowered this reduction. The new direct-injected V8 increases power from 518 horsepower to 571 along with generating 663 pound-feet of torque between 2,250 and 3,750 rpm. In terms of track time, the SL63 will make it from 0-62 mph in just 4.5 seconds with the basic trim or 4.4 seconds if you choose the AMG sports package.

The 2011 S63 has adopted the multi-clutch unit from the SL63 and dumped the previous torque converter automatic transmission. As you would expect from a turbocharged engine, fuel efficiency has increased from the past model from 16.3 miles per gallon to 22.4 mpg on the EU test cycle. We are still waiting to hear the official EPA numbers.

(from Novitec Press Release) NOVITEC TRIDENTE Tunes the Maserati Quattroporte

590 hp / 434 kW and 572 Nm Through Compressor Technology

Superior performance through NOVITEC TRIDENTE Compressor Technology: With a rated power output of 590 hp / 434 kW and a peak torque of 572 Nm NOVITEC TRIDENTE establishes the two Maserati models Quattroporte S and Sport GT S among the most powerful luxury sedans in the world. Additionally the tuner enhances the car’s appearance and driving dynamics with three-piece 21-inch wheels, a height-adjustable coil-over suspension and a carbon-fiber rear spoiler. Exclusive interior upgrades are yet another NOVITEC TRIDENTE specialty.

Superlative driving thanks to superior engine power combined with exceptional engine smoothness: That is the philosophy behind the new NOVITEC TRIDENTE SPORT compressor engine for the Maserati luxury sedans Quattroporte S and Quattroporte Sport GT S.

The specialists of the German company adapted a cogged-belt-driven mechanical charger to the 4.7-liter eight-cylinder four-valve engine. Maximum boost pressure is limited to 0.35 bar. A water-to-air intercooler with dedicated water circulation ensures healthy operating temperatures for the engine. The NOVITEC TRIDENTE SPORT compressor conversion is rounded out by a custom intake manifold and larger injectors. Newly calibrated engine electronics ensure optimal power yield, longevity and compliance with strict Euro IV emission limits.

After the engine conversion, which starts at 19,900 Euros, the Italian luxury sedan delivers high-end performance figures: Rated power output of the Quattroporte S jumps from standard 430 hp / 318 kW to 590 hp / 434 kW at 7,300 rpm. Simultaneously peak torque grows from 490 Nm to 572 Nm.

In combination with the six-speed automatic transmission the NOVITEC TRIDENTE luxury sedan delivers excellent driving performance as well: A sprint time of just 4.6 seconds from rest to 100 km/h and 14.9 seconds to 200 km/h are truly exceptional in this class. Just as impressive is the cars new top speed of 295 km/h.

To transfer this tremendous performance potential to the road as safely as possible NOVITEC TRIDENTE have developed a custom-tailored tire/wheel combination for the Quattroporte. The three-piece alloy wheels with five double spokes perfectly fill out the available space in the wheel wells. The size 9Jx21 wheels on the front axle are mounted with Pirelli P Zero high-performance tires in size 255/30 ZR 21. In the rear size 295/30 ZR 21 tires on size 11Jx21 wheels provide optimal traction.

The new wheels play a large part in the sporty yet elegant appearance of the upgraded luxury sedan. For added sporty emphasis NOVITEC TRIDENTE offers an understated rear spoiler made from clear-coated carbon fiber.

The NOVITEC TRIDENTE sport suspension is specifically calibrated to the 21-inch high-performance tires. It allows owners of the Quattroporte to dial-in a setup that suits their individual preferences. The suspension is continuously height-adjustable and features multiple settings for compression and rebound.

NOVITEC TRIDENTE also offers numerous options for a stylish customization of the interior of the luxury sedan. The options range from a custom-tailored interior crafted from the finest leather or Alcantara to a state-of-the-art multimedia equipment package with TV, Blu-Ray player and high-speed internet connection on wheels.

Ford will be only producing 5,500 units of the 2011 Shelby GT500 for this model year. According to Ford spokesman Henry Platts, the move is not the result of slow sales, but rather a desire to maintain exclusivity. The GT500 has actually “exceeded expectations” with in excess of 3,300 orders already placed.

Not only are the sales doing well but people are ordering them with all the bells and whistles. There have been three times as many GT500 coupes ordered with the $1995 glass roof option as compared to the regular Mustang. 68 percent have been given the $3,495 performance package which includes 19 and 20 inch painted forged alloy wheels, 3.73 limited-slip rear end, tuned suspension, Gurney flap rear spoiler, etc. Also, 70 percent of all GT500s have been orered with the $2,340 electronics package which includes navigation, dual-zone HVAC, and Sirius/HD radio.

Although we have the word on the production stats, Platts says the automaker has no plans to dictate how that shakes out in the coupe/convertible bodystle mix. If you have been thinking about ordering one of these nasty snakes for 2011, we recommend you make up your mind rather quickly.

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

2011 FORD SHELBY GT500 IN HIGH DEMAND, RAPIDLY APPROACHING PRODUCTION LIMIT

• Annual production of the 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 has been limited to 5,500 units to maintain exclusivity of the product

• Demand for the new 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 has exceeded expectations with more than 3,300 initial dealer and retail orders received to date

• Premium features including the glass roof and the Electronics Package with SYNC, navigation and HD Radio™ are exceeding expectations as consumers show an appetite for new features and technology

DEARBORN, Mich., July 12, 2010 – Customer demand for Ford’s new 2011 Shelby GT500 is growing nearly as fast as the world’s fastest production pony car. More than 3,300 orders have been placed for the new Shelby GT500. To ensure exclusivity, U.S. sales of the 2011 Shelby GT500 will be limited to 5,500 units.

“We are pleased with the pace of retail orders for the 2011 Shelby GT500,” said Fritz Wilke, Mustang brand manager. “The car continues to be popular with sports car enthusiasts and collectors who are blown away by the increase in horsepower and performance. The limited production of the 2011 should make this year even more desirable.”

The 2011 Shelby GT500 is powered by a new aluminum-block 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine, which produces 550 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. of torque, a 10 horsepower increase over the 2010 model. The engine is 102 pounds lighter than its predecessor, delivering a better power-to-weight ratio, improved fuel economy, acceleration, handling and steering precision.

The new engine uses a state-of-the-art Plasma Transferred Wire Arc (PTWA) liner coating, a process that applies a 150-micron composite coating that contains nanoparticles on the internal surfaces of engine cylinder bores, replacing cast-iron liners typically used in aluminum engine blocks. The Intellectual Property Owners Education Foundation honored the inventors of the Ford-patented PTWA technology with the 2009 National Inventor of the Year Award.

Customers are showing an appreciation for the GT500′s performance on and off the track, as well as its many features.

Standard 2011 performance features include the 550-horsepower aluminum 5.4-liter V8 engine, a new 2.75-inch exhaust system, revised brake cooling and pedal box construction for more consistent brake pedal efforts and feel, and electric power-assisted steering (EPAS). SVT worked hard to make EPAS better than the outgoing hydraulic steering system, with improved torque build-up and road feel.

New for 2011 is an optional glass roof providing customers with yet another open-air option that does not compromise the coupe’s versatility, headroom or climate-controlled environment. Three times more 2011 GT500s have been ordered with the glass roof compared to the base Mustang showing the popularity of this new feature.

Interior options have proven immensely popular, with almost 70 percent of the GT500s ordered with the Electronics Package, which includes voice-activated navigation, SIRIUS Travel Link™, HD Radio and dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control.

The new SVT Performance Package is also proving to be a popular option with just over 68 percent of coupe orders selecting the enhanced performance delivered through this all-new option. The package was developed to provide track performance. SVT engineers worked directly with Goodyear to develop all-new Goodyear Eagle® F1 SuperCar G: 2 tires that give this already great handling car supercar grip and control levels. The optional package also offers unique styling, staggered lighter wheels with 19-inch fronts and 20-inch rears, a numerically higher rear axle ratio, stiffer springs and dampers, and a lowered ride height. The SVT Performance Package is available on both the coupe and convertible.

Other standard items new for 2011 include high-intensity discharge headlamps, MyKey™ programmable vehicle key, integrated spotter mirror and fold-down rear headrests.

(from Lincoln Press Release) LUXURIOUS THREE-ROW LINCOLN MKT OFFERS BUYERS PREMIUM TECHNOLOGY WITH FUEL ECONOMY AND ROOM

    — 2011 Lincoln MKT continues to offer luxury crossover shoppers Lincoln’s signature design in an inviting three-row configuration, with intuitive technologies that will make customers’ lives easier – including available Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Warning with Brake Support, Active Park Assist and Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®) with Cross Traffic Alert
— The Lincoln MKT offers two fuel-efficient engine choices: a powerful 268 horsepower 3.7-liter V-6 or a 3.5-liter EcoBoost™ V-6 engine that delivers even more performance with 355 horsepower, without compromising its fuel economy
— An unbeatable list of features comes standard on every Lincoln MKT, including a fixed glass roof, 10GB music jukebox, 110-volt power outlet, push-button start and the award-winning Lincoln SYNC® voice-activated communications and entertainment system

Lincoln continues to offer full-size luxury crossover customers a premium choice in the 2011 Lincoln MKT, a three-row crossover that delivers an optimal blend of distinctive design, interior spaciousness, fuel economy and technology.

Standard on every Lincoln MKT is the brand’s signature design – complete with a split-wing grille, a beveled chamfer along the vehicle’s shoulder line, a flowing cantrail that frames the greenhouse and full-width horizontal taillamps that span the subtly curved weight-saving magnesium liftgate that adds visual character while protecting generous rear cargo space.

Lincoln MKT craftsmanship is reflected in precise panel margins and in the high tactile quality of interior surfaces and trim. Inside, high-quality materials and precision-stitched craftsmanship are evident on every surface – from the leather-trimmed seating surfaces and floating armrests to the optional flow-through second-row center console and standard jewel-like acrylic instrument cluster with LED white lighting.

MKT buyers can choose between six- and seven-passenger models with two different second-row seating configurations. A standard 60/ 40 split folding rear bench seat features heated outboard seating positions. Power “fold and tumble” second-row bucket or captain’s seats, with heating, cooling and power-assisted lumbar adjustment are also available. A rear console-mounted five-quart-capacity refrigerator is available in the six-passenger seating configuration

Premium amenities include a standard fixed glass Panoramic Vista Roof™ with power-assisted front and rear sunshades – or the available Power Panoramic Vista Roof that opens for an expansive open-air experience. An available dual headrest Family Entertainment System with twin 7-inch DVD playback screens offers individual or simultaneous programming to second-row passengers, and available Active Park Assist allows perfect, hands-free parallel parking every time.

Quiet, confident motoring

The Lincoln MKT strikes an optimum balance between capable, driver-engaging handling and a smooth, quiet ride in all three rows, combining a luxury touring experience with an agile ride.

Key elements of Lincoln MKT suspension tuning include minimizing front end lift on acceleration, offering stable and engaging steering and handling characteristics that provide confidence to all drivers, all while delivering a luxurious ride quality consistent with Lincoln brand character.

The rear suspension system features a “one for one” shock absorber ratio. The resulting linear response gave the engineering team a stable baseline for suspension tuning, allowing the team to deliver a better balance between responsive handling and control as well as a smooth ride. It also improves rear suspension isolation and enables the use of 20-inch wheels.

Lincoln MKT delivers a new level of quiet confidence that delivers best-in-class levels of NVH control. Virtual modeling and wind tunnel tests helped engineers optimize the vehicle, influencing everything from side-view mirror placement and special sound deadening in the bulkhead to extensive exhaust system isolation and the inclusion of both an acoustic windshield and dual-layer front side glass to specifically reduce A-pillar wind noise.

Standard on all Lincoln MKT models with EcoBoost, an Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS) system replaces the traditional hydraulic power steering pump. Because it operates only when required for steering assistance, it contributes to lower fuel consumption than a hydraulic pump, which operates whenever the engine is running.

Using sensors, EPAS constantly measures the steering input applied by the driver to maintain the vehicle’s path; it continually resets to adapt to changing road conditions or the vehicle turning a corner. Ford’s pull-drift software technology gives the EPAS system the added ability to compensate for slight steering torque changes caused by environmental factors such as road crowning or steady crosswinds.

Premium innovations

Lincoln MKT delivers abundant technologies aimed at making life luxurious for both the driver and three rows of passengers. A holistic approach was used to develop these amenities, where ease of use and intuitive operation were key objectives. Nowhere is this focus more apparent than with Active Park Assist.

Enabled by the same EPAS system that delivers improved fuel economy and better handling over conventional steering systems, Active Park Assist employs an ultrasonic-based sensing system, as opposed to video camera-reliant competitive offerings. The result is simple, reliable hands-free parallel parking every time.

Active Park Assist activates at the touch of a button, reducing the risk of selecting an inappropriately sized parking space, detects the edges of adjacent objects to calculate optimized trajectory and steers the Lincoln MKT while coaching the driver through conventional throttle and braking inputs.

Active Park Assist also works in uphill parking situations, unlike competitive systems on the market, and parks the Lincoln MKT nearly three times faster – and four to eight inches closer to the curb – than the system found on the Lexus LS460L.

Inside, Lincoln SYNC® is standard on all Lincoln MKT models, providing occupants with voice-activated communications and infotainment, including 911 Assist and Vehicle Health Reports. SYNC is an advanced software platform that provides consumers the convenience and flexibility to bring digital media players and Bluetooth®-enabled mobile phones into their vehicles and operate the devices via voice commands or with the steering wheel’s redundant radio controls.

Along with the convenience of SYNC voice control, drivers can operate the climate control and audio system via voice or touch using the standard center-stack touch screen display. The audio system includes a CD/DVD/MP3 player with 10 speakers, SIRIUS satellite radio with a six-month subscription, audio input jack and 10GB hard drive. The system can also store and display up to 32 photos, sized 1.5MB or less, and the home screen can be personalized.

The available Elite Package includes voice-activated navigation and a THX II® Certified 5.1 Surround Audio System with 14 strategically aimed Premium Audio speakers. New this year, the navigation system can also receive HD Radio broadcasts, giving listeners access to additional free programming in areas where it is offered.

A SIRIUS Travel Link™ prepaid subscription is included with the Elite Package, providing coast-to-coast weather data, forecasts, fuel prices, sports scores, movie listings and more.

Technology under the skin

The Lincoln MKT features an advanced structural safety system that combines octagonal front frame rails, tunnel rails, and support members that are designed to absorb and redirect crash forces away from the passenger compartment.

Lincoln MKT also features Side Protection And Cabin Enhancement Architecture (SPACE®) incorporated to optimize side-impact occupant protection.

The SPACE system integrates a hydroformed high strength steel tube embedded in the floor that runs the width of the vehicle from B-pillar to B-pillar and along the rocker panels to form a safety cage to help protect passengers in side impact incidents.

Lincoln MKT also features Ford’s enhanced Personal Safety System™, combining multiple technologies to tailor the air bag package and safety belt functions to the individual passenger and the accident circumstances. The system can identify variables, such as severity of the crash, weight of the individual passenger and safety belt usage to adjust air bag deployment force.

Balancing power and efficiency

Fuel efficiency also comes standard on the Lincoln MKT – and customers have a choice of two powerful yet practical V-6 engines.

A 3.7-liter, 24-valve variation of the award-winning Duratec engine family is standard. Delivering 268 horsepower at 6,500 RPM and 267 ft.-lb. of torque at 4,250 RPM, this engine has been tuned to provide brisk acceleration and smooth power delivery.

A two-speed fuel pump and Aggressive Deceleration Fuel Shut-Off (ADFSO), combined with optimized transmission and final-drive gearing, allow this engine to deliver fuel economy of 17 city, 23 highway for Lincoln MKT with the 3.7-liter engine and front-wheel drive.

For even more performance-driving feel, Lincoln MKT also offers a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 offering the power of a normally aspirated V-8 with V-6 fuel economy, even with standard all-wheel drive. The EcoBoost V-6 delivers a class-leading 355 horsepower at 5,700 rpm, while generating 350 ft.-lb. of torque from 1,500 through 5,250 rpm.

EcoBoost is a global Ford strategy to deliver the power that customers want, combined with the fuel economy that they need. Combining gasoline direct injection with twin turbochargers and a smaller-displacement engine, EcoBoost can match the power output of larger, naturally aspirated engines while yielding torque and fuel economy gains.

Pressurized direct injection enables a higher compression ratio, while twin turbochargers work in tandem to reduce lag associated with earlier turbocharged engines. Even with additional horsepower, fuel economy is optimized by an increased compression ratio – enabled by charge-cooling air – and sophisticated knock controls.

Lincoln MKT is equipped with a six-speed SelectShift Automatic™ transmission. This advanced gearbox offers the driver a choice between fully automatic operation and manual control. Paddle shifters are integrated into the steering wheel spokes. Intuitive to operate, a squeeze back on either paddle will deliver an upshift, while a gentle push forward on either paddle will induce a “matched-rev” downshift.

This capability makes the Lincoln MKT driving experience sporty, yet smooth. Unlike other competitive transmissions, SelectShift won’t “second guess” the driver with an override shift. With SelectShift, manual control is truly manually controlled.

All-wheel drive is optional in the Lincoln MKT with the standard 3.7-liter V-6. The AWD option enhances the vehicle’s capability in a variety of weather conditions. The sophisticated AWD system is fully automatic, using an advanced array of internal electro-mechanical clutches to efficiently distribute torque between front and rear wheels as needed. AWD is standard in the Lincoln MKT with EcoBoost.

Lincoln MKT Safety Technologies

Standard and available 2011 Lincoln MKT safety features include:

AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control® and Brake Actuated Traction Control
Dual front air bags, front seat-mounted side air bags and side air curtains
Safety Canopy® – an exclusive side impact protection system employing side curtain air bags to help protect front and outboard rear passengers in both rollover and side impact crashes
Collision Warning with Brake Support, enabled by Adaptive Cruise Control warns drivers of slower moving traffic ahead. If the driver doesn’t respond, the system will pre-charge the brakes to prepare the vehicle for a more aggressive stop.

(from Ford Press Release) SPORTY 2011 FORD TAURUS SHO OFFERS 365-HP ECOBOOST V-6, AWD, SELECTSHIFT SIX-SPEED GEARBOX

    — The Taurus SHO version of Ford’s flagship sedan offers premium performance and fuel economy with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost™ V-6. This advanced engine delivers normally aspirated V-8 levels of power, without compromising its V-6 fuel economy
— The 2011 Taurus SHO features an enhanced SelectShift Automatic™ six-speed transmission with control paddles mounted on the steering wheel
— Taurus SHO has an advanced torque-sensing all-wheel-drive system, specifically tuned suspension and unique interior appointments

Taurus SHO is back for 2011, powered by a Super High Output (SHO) EcoBoost twin-turbocharged engine. Building on the legacy of the original model, Taurus SHO has again been embraced by the automotive enthusiast community, being named Esquire magazine’s first-ever “Car of the Year.”

Introduced in 1989, Taurus SHO was conceived as a discreet performance-oriented sports sedan, ideally suited to the automotive enthusiast needing the room and capability of a four-door full-size car. Produced through 1999, more than 100,000 models were sold.

In 2010, the Taurus SHO made its dramatic return.

EcoBoost twin-turbocharged power

The foundation of the 2011 Taurus SHO is a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 engine. This advanced powerplant generates an estimated 365 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 350 ft.-lb. of torque at 3,500 rpm, resulting in significantly improved power, torque and fuel economy compared with larger, normally aspirated engines.

A key feature of this EcoBoost engine is gasoline direct injection. The direct injection of fuel into the cylinder during the intake stroke, as opposed to port-style injection to an externally mounted intake, produces a well-mixed air-fuel charge. Fuel vaporization during the intake stroke cools the incoming air, improving volumetric efficiency and lowering the likelihood of knock.

The results are improved throttle response, reduced cold start emissions and improved fuel economy. The cooled charge enables an increased compression ratio, improving efficiency at partial load, while the higher compression ratio allows for better volumetric efficiency under full-load engine behavior. Customers will experience naturally aspirated V-8 power without compromise to the V-6 fuel economy.

The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 uses twin turbochargers as opposed to a single unit. The reduced size of each turbocharger results in reduced internal inertia, allowing this advanced engine to avoid the “turbo lag” often prevalent in earlier-generation turbocharged applications.

From the driver’s seat, the result is linear power delivery across a broad torque band from 1,500 to 5,500 rpm. Peak torque building quickly ensures responsive acceleration from a standing start.

SelectShift with paddle controls and all-wheel drive

The new Taurus SHO driveline combines a high-capacity six-speed SelectShift transmission with a sophisticated torque-sensing all-wheel-drive system. These components work in harmony to deliver ample traction when putting EcoBoost power on the road.

The six-speed transmission offers a wide array of gears to enable spirited acceleration, yet comfortable and economical high-speed cruising through a 2.77 to 1 final drive ratio.

SelectShift provides conventional automatic operation or a manual shift mode that gives the driver the option of manual control over gear selection. For performance-minded drivers, paddle controls allow “match-rev” downshifts and will hold manually selected gears for precise control. Intuitively operated, a squeeze on either paddle will deliver an economical upshift under acceleration, while a gentle push forward brings a smooth downshift, synchronizing the engine and transmission speeds for responsive, positive engagement.

The Taurus SHO driveline is contemporized with the incorporation of a sophisticated all-wheel- drive system that engages automatically and unobtrusively. The unit contains an advanced array of internal electromechanical clutches to efficiently distribute torque to the wheels with optimum traction. The standard all-wheel drive allows the Taurus SHO to efficiently deliver its high performance to the pavement under a wide variety of conditions.

SHO dynamics

Taurus SHO features an advanced Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS) system providing responsive road feel and enhanced on-center balance while offering the additional benefit of increased fuel economy. SHO also features a sport-tuned suspension with unique shock absorbers, springs, stabilizer bars and strut mount bushings specifically developed and harmonized to deliver the highest level of road-holding, cornering agility and steering responsiveness available in a Ford full-size sedan.

Taurus SHO takes full advantage of the multilink SR1 rear suspension design. Named for the 1:1 shock absorber ratio, this configuration provides an inherently stable base for the SHO development team to fine-tune for enhanced driver control and agility. In addition, the SR1 rear suspension geometry provides increased travel, while enabling the use of 19- and 20-inch wheels and tires.

For the discriminating automotive enthusiast, Taurus SHO offers an available SHO Performance Package consisting of upgraded brake pads, recalibrated EPAS for even more responsiveness,
a sport mode setting for the standard AdvanceTrac® with ESC (Electronic Stability Control) and a shorter 3.16 to 1 final drive ratio for faster acceleration. Summer-compound 20-inch Goodyear Eagle F1 performance tires on premium painted wheels also are included.

SHO specific subtlety

A key element of the authentic SHO formula is the subtlety of its unique exterior design cues. Features include sporty premium painted wheels wrapped in standard low-profile 19-inch Goodyear Eagle or optional 20-inch Michelin high-performance tires, a decklid-mounted spoiler and twin chrome exhaust tips. The car also features a uniquely finished interpretation of the Ford signature three-bar grille with SHO-specific parking lamp bezels.

The SHO interior encourages performance driving. Leather-trimmed seats with Miko suede inserts, made from recycled post-consumer yarns from plastic soft drink bottles, are comfortable and luxurious. A perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel puts the driver in smooth touch with the road. Front seats are 10-way power adjustable. SHO accelerator and brake pedals are trimmed in aluminum. The console, instrument and door panels feature SHO-specific authentic aluminum appliqués. SHO branding appears on the unique floor mats and on the passenger side of the instrument panel.

New colors for 2011 are Kona Blue Metallic and Sterling Gray Metallic.

Technology and connectivity features

Standard and available 2011 Ford Taurus SHO technology features include:

(from Lincoln Press Release) 2011 LINCOLN MKS BLENDS PREMIUM TECHNOLOGY WITH OUTSTANDING INTERIOR, POWERTRAIN REFINEMENT

    — Available voice-activated navigation system now offers HD RadioTM technology for even more entertainment options for Lincoln MKS owners
— Advanced technologies, like the Active Park Assist parallel parking aid and the MyKey™ programmable vehicle key help integrate Lincoln MKS into owners’ lifestyles
— Standard 3.7-liter V-6 engine offers smooth, refined performance while the available 3.5-liter EcoBoost™ V-6 provides V-8 power with V-6 fuel economy

The 2011 Lincoln MKS flagship sedan evokes luxury from its exceptional quietness and comfort to its premium materials, class-exclusive features and confident driving demeanor.

Putting the driver in command, the Lincoln MKS chassis provides isolation from road noise and harshness but doesn’t isolate the driver from the road. Steering is precise and responsive; the ride is smooth yet taut; braking is linear and controlled. And with its available 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine, Lincoln MKS also offers a powertrain that produces a compelling combination of V-8 power and V-6 fuel economy.

New for 2011, music lovers will enjoy the addition of HD Radio technology to the available voice-activated navigation system. The HD Radio receiver enables more listening options and digital sound quality with no additional equipment or cost. To use HD Radio, listeners simply tune in their favorite station. If the station is broadcasting with HD Radio technology, the system automatically picks up the signal and will transition to digital audio once decoded.

The Lincoln SYNC® voice-activated in-vehicle connectivity system, standard on the Lincoln MKS, now integrates Traffic, Directions & Information with the voice-activated navigation system. Traffic, Directions & Information leverages industry-leading voice-recognition software, integrated GPS technology and a customer’s Bluetooth®-capable mobile phone to provide simple hands-free access to personalized traffic reports, precise turn-by-turn driving directions, and up-to-date information including business listings, news, sports and weather.

Immersed in premium technologies

Lincoln MKS delivers technologies aimed at making life luxurious for both driver and passengers. A holistic approach was used to develop these features, where ease of use and intuitive operation were key objectives. Nowhere is this focus more apparent than with Active Park Assist, available on EcoBoost models and enabled by Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS).

This technology employs an ultrasonic-based sensing system, as opposed to video camera-reliant competitive offerings, making parallel parking a breeze. Active Park Assist activates at the touch of a button, determining an adequate parking spot, detecting the edges of adjacent objects to calculate an optimized angle, and then steering the Lincoln MKS into the spot while coaching the driver through conventional throttle and braking inputs.

In addition to completing a parking maneuver quickly, Active Park Assist also works in uphill parking situations, unlike some competitive systems.

Also working in conjunction with EPAS, Pull-Drift Compensation is a software-based technology that helps drivers offset vehicle pulling or drifting that can occur in steady crosswinds or on uneven roads. Pull-Drift Compensation uses sensors to constantly measure the steering input applied by the driver to help maintain the vehicle’s path; it automatically compensates for slight steering input changes caused by environmental factors such as road crowning or steady crosswinds.

On the road, Adaptive Cruise Control and Collision Warning with Brake Support allows the driver to set and maintain vehicle speed, while radar monitors traffic ahead of the Lincoln MKS. This optional system automatically adjusts speed and slows the vehicle to maintain the set distance behind traffic ahead.

Collision Warning with Brake Support provides the driver with a “heads-up” display that flashes on the windshield if the system senses a potential collision with the vehicle in front of it. If the driver doesn’t respond and a collision is imminent, the system will pre-charge the brakes and increase brake assist sensitivity to provide full responsiveness when the driver does brake.

MyKey allows parents or other concerned owners to restrict certain Lincoln MKS features when in the hands of a MyKey driver. Parents simply program the vehicle key through the message center to incorporate features such as:

    — Limited top speed of 80 mph
— Traction control system that limits tire spin cannot be deactivated
— Audio system volume limited to 44 percent of maximum volume
— A speed alert chime at 45, 55 or 65 mph

A new level of connectivity

Lincoln SYNC is standard on all Lincoln MKS models, providing occupants with voice-activated communications and infotainment, including 911 Assist™, Vehicle Health Report and Traffic, Directions & Information.

Lincoln MKS is offered with two audio technology choices. Standard is a THX® II Certified Car Audio System with AM/FM/CD6/DVD/MP3 capability, 10 speakers, SIRIUS® satellite radio with six-month prepaid subscription, an auxiliary input jack and a USB port.

The available navigation system includes an internal hard drive for map and point-of-interest information storage, THX II Certified Car Audio System with 14 strategically aimed Premium Audio speakers and HD Radio technology. In addition, a SIRIUS Traffic™ and SIRIUS Travel Link™ prepaid subscription is included with the navigation system, providing coast-to-coast weather data, forecasts, fuel prices, sports scores, movie listings and more.

The available navigation system also enables the driver to display personal photos on the center stack-mounted touch screen. The system can store and display up to 32 photos, sized 1.5MB or less. The home screen can be personalized by display, desired information, or photos in one-, two- or three-panel views.

Both audio technology choices feature an internal Jukebox hard drive for storage of up to 150 hours of recorded audio entertainment. Users can browse the Jukebox via touch screen or voice control. Gracenote® technology will display the CD cover when a selected track is playing.

Striking interior detail

The meticulously detailed 2011 Lincoln MKS delivers a precision-crafted environment resplendent in premium leather trim and real wood and metal accents. Elegant, flowing surfaces create the feeling that the interior has been sculpted, rather than constructed. The flow-through center stack is topped with an integrated information screen that also serves as the screen for the available navigation system. Standard leather-trimmed seats are double-stitched and feature an exclusive Lincoln perforation pattern on the inserts.

A philosophy of “guilt-free luxury” means Lincoln MKS strives to use materials and processes that reflect the finer things in life, but not at the expense of the world around it. Examples include:

    — Leather for the seats by Bridge of Weir, the same Scottish company that supplied hides for the iconic Continental Mark II, was chosen for its high quality and its organic, chromium-free tanning
— Ebony wood, used for some models, is reclaimed from furniture makers and other sources to offer a beautiful and rare wood with minimal environmental impact

Lincoln comfort seats, developed for the MKS, feature side bolster supports designed for spirited driving. The standard heated and cooled 12-way power driver and front passenger seats offer four-way lumbar (up, down, inboard and outboard) for added comfort on long trips.
Rear seat passengers also enjoy a luxury experience as they enjoy standard heated rear outboard seats.

Recessed into the front and rear door openings, cleverly designed hidden rocker panels allow for a low step-over height, making it easier to enter or exit the vehicle. This design helps shield the rockers from the elements, reducing the likelihood of soiling shoes or trousers when entering or exiting the vehicle.

Balanced power, boosted efficiency

Fuel efficiency comes standard on the Lincoln MKS – and customers have a choice of two powerful yet practical V-6 engines. A 3.7-liter, 24-valve variation of the award-winning Duratec® engine family is standard. Delivering 274 horsepower at 6,250 rpm and 270 ft.-lb. of torque at 4,250 rpm, this engine has been tuned to provide brisk acceleration and smooth power delivery, along with EPA-estimated fuel economy of 17 mpg city/24 highway for the Lincoln MKS with the 3.7-liter engine and front-wheel drive (FWD). The all-wheel drive (AWD) version will deliver an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 16 mpg city/23 highway.

For an even more performance-oriented driving experience, Lincoln MKS also offers an available 3.5-liter EcoBoostTM twin-turbocharged, direct-injected V-6. This engine provides 355 horsepower at 5,700 rpm, while generating 350 ft.-lb. of torque from 1,500 through 5,250 rpm (using premium fuel) – all while returning an EPA-estimated 17 mpg city/25 highway with AWD.

The unique combination of power and efficiency also makes the EcoBoost MKS the most fuel-efficient all-wheel-drive Lincoln MKS available, topping the naturally aspirated AWD model by 1 mpg city and 2 mpg highway. Combining gasoline direct injection with twin turbochargers and a smaller-displacement engine, EcoBoost can match the power output of larger, naturally aspirated engines while yielding torque gains and maintaining fuel economy.

Lincoln MKS is equipped with a six-speed SelectShift Automatic™ transmission with paddle shift activation. This advanced six-speed gearbox offers the driver a choice between fully automatic operation and manual control. In addition, paddle shifters are integrated into the steering wheel spokes. Intuitive to operate, a squeeze back on either paddle will deliver an upshift, while a gentle push forward on either paddle will induce a “matched-rev” downshift.

This capability makes the Lincoln MKS driving experience sporty yet smooth. Unlike some competitive transmissions, SelectShift won’t “second guess” the driver with an override shift. With SelectShift, manual control is truly manually controlled.

All-wheel drive is optional in the Lincoln MKS with the standard 3.7-liter V-6. The AWD option enhances the vehicle’s capability in a variety of weather conditions. The sophisticated AWD system is fully automatic, using an advanced array of internal electromechanical clutches to efficiently distribute torque between front and rear wheels as needed. AWD is standard in the Lincoln MKS with the available EcoBoost 3.5-liter V-6.

Body and suspension improvements

Lincoln MKS drivers enjoy the solitude that comes courtesy of premium noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics. Chassis and body bracing and strategically placed sound-deadening materials produce an extraordinary level of cabin isolation, providing MKS drivers with a sense of sanctuary.

The structural stiffness is supplemented by a suspension designed to further isolate occupants while also enhancing the driving experience when pushed hard. Mounts and bushings have been carefully tuned, and spring/shock tuning and front suspension geometry have both been engineered to give drivers exceptional handling capabilities in a full-size luxury vehicle.

In addition to the refinements found throughout the MKS line, EcoBoost models take the tuning one step further. Larger stabilizer bars front and rear provide flatter cornering characteristics, and a different front subframe aids in further adjustments to the suspension geometry. Combined with dual roll restrictors, the EcoBoost MKS features handling dynamics perfectly matched to its powerful, responsive engine – all without sacrificing the luxurious ride Lincoln owners demand.

Active and passive safety innovations

The Lincoln MKS features an advanced structural safety system that combines octagonal front frame rails, tunnel rails and support members designed to absorb and redirect crash forces away from the passenger compartment. Lincoln MKS also features Side Protection And Cabin Enhancement (SPACE) Architecture® to optimize side-impact occupant protection.

The SPACE system integrates a hydroformed high-strength steel tube embedded in the floor that runs the width of the vehicle from B-pillar to B-pillar and along the rocker panels to form a safety cage to help protect passengers in side-impact incidents.

Also included is the enhanced Personal Safety System™, combining multiple technologies to help tailor the airbags and seat belt functions to each individual passenger and the particular accident circumstances. The system can identify variables, such as severity of the crash, weight of the individual passenger, and seat belt usage to adjust airbag deployment force.

Lincoln MKS safety technologies

Standard and available 2011 Lincoln MKS safety features include:

    — AdvanceTrac® Electronic Stability Control with Brake Actuated Traction Control
— Dual front airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags and side air curtains
— Safety Canopy®, an exclusive side-impact protection system employing side curtain airbags to help protect front and outboard rear passengers in both rollover and side-impact crashes
— Collision Warning with Brake Support warns drivers of slower-moving traffic ahead. If the driver doesn’t respond, the system will pre-charge the brakes to prepare the vehicle for a more aggressive stop
— Personal Safety System™, a suite of safety technologies, including dual-stage front airbags for the driver and front seat passenger, seat belt pretensioners, load-limiting retractors, seat position sensing and crash severity sensing
— Tire Pressure Monitoring System
— SOS Post-Crash Alert System flashes signal lights and sounds horn in the event of an accident
— LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tether anchors for CHildren) system on rear seating positions

Lincoln MKS technology and connectivity features

Standard and available 2011 Lincoln MKS technology features include:

    — Adaptive Cruise Control
— Intelligent Access with Push Button Start
— Voice-activated Navigation System with HD Radio, SIRIUS Traffic and SIRIUS Travel Link
— SecuriCode™ Keyless Entry Keypad

(from Cargraphic Press Release) The Power of Eco-Motion: Cargraphic shows exhaust and tuning package for Cayenne S Hybrid

Despite the ever-increasing number of alternative engine technology on the market, it is highly unlikely that tuning companies will find themselves out of a job in the future. Proof of this can be seen in the attractive package from Cargraphic for the new Porsche Cayenne. Besides the “Turbo” (see photos), which will get the same wheels and accessories, the German customisers have especially in mind the S Hybrid version. “Cars will still be able to sound powerful and sporty in the future”, believes Cargraphic CEO Thomas Schnarr. The technical brain behind the company refers to the exhaust systems, manufactured in the company’s own plant in England. The acclaimed tuner expects this to be a real premiere for the company in the year in which it celebrates its 25-year anniversary: the first exhaust system for a hybrid vehicle. Variable suspension lowering, 22-inch, 3-piece wheels type Racing that are “Made in Germany” by the company itself and a discreet body kit with rear diffuser complete its harmonious appearance.

This attractive package will also be available for other engine variants, for which Cargraphic also has special exhaust systems in the pipeline. By optimising the flow not only the sound but also the power output benefits. The company has also developed special performance software in conjunction with the renowned experts of Kubatech. Increased driving pleasure is thus guaranteed. Even though combustion engines as single or hybrid drive will undoubtedly remain with us for some decades to come, Cargraphic is already one step ahead with its tuning concept. Thomas Schnarr and his brother Michael, who share management of the company, have already drawn up plans for the first innovative sound concepts for electric cars. Thus, the passion and pleasure of driving may change in the future but never be lost.
