Jeep Wranglers usually bring to mind the Rubicon trail with rough terrain; however, his new 2012 Jeep Wrangler Arctic edition sports a winter theme. Based on the Sahara model, the Arctic edition features black 17 in ch wheels, Mopar accessories, a 3.6 liter V6 engine matched with a five speed automatic transmission. A 2.8 liter turbo diesel is also available.

In order to highlight the most adventurous soul and the legendary 4×4 capability of the iconic Jeep Wrangler, Jeep introduces in Frankfurt the all-new Arctic special-edition model.

The grueling and demanding environments of the arctic offer the type of terrain the legendary Jeep Wrangler was engineered to conquer. Based on the Jeep Wrangler Sahara model, the Arctic’s winter theme is immediately recognizable. The new special edition features exclusive styling cues. The Arctic badge and decal recall the Yeti, the legendary creature that according to folk tradition lives in the uncontaminated nature of the extreme North.

With unique black 17-inch wheels, original Mopar® accessories and an exclusive interior enhanced by distinctive colors and details, Jeep Wrangler Arctic is powered by the new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 petrol engine matched with the automatic five-speed transaxle or by the 2.8-liter turbo diesel powertrain paired with a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission.

The new Arctic model will be introduced in European Jeep dealerships in the first quarter of 2012 and will be available for Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited.

Ever wondered why most cars have a top speed of 120mph when the national speed limit is only 70mph? The answer – track days. Maybe it’s not the official answer, but it’s probably the best one! Put simply, track days are an excuse for us to drive our cars as fast as we can, without fear of cameras, cops and speeding tickets.

There are many different venues in the UK which hold track days; Santa Pod in Northampton, Brands Hatch in Kent and Silverstone in Northants are perhaps the best known. They can be expensive, but you can usually get track days vouchers from sites like moneysupermarket.com which will knock a little off the booking price on bike and car track days.

A typical track day means an early start. Most drivers will arrive at the circuit before 8am, and register their vehicle and license. Based on your previous experience, you’ll be assigned an ability group – novice, advanced or intermediate, and this will be indicated by a sticker displayed on your vehicle. You usually decide your ability group before you arrive.

After a debriefing on track etiquette, safety and anything else the marshals think you need to know, you’ll then have to wait for your ability group to run. Usually the advanced groups go first, then the intermediates, then the novices. This cycle is repeated until lunchtime, then resumed in the afternoon after food and refueling. Each ability class gets one run per hour at most venues. Track days aren’t just for cars; most (if not all) venues will open up to motorbikes too, although the two usually run on separate days or tracks.

On both bike and car track days, safety is paramount and appropriate clothing must be worn (helmets and other gear must be of a good condition and have no splits or other damage). Some venues will hire equipment out, but drivers usually feel more comfortable in their own gear. For car drivers, only a helmet is mandatory, although they do advise proper boots and gloves to make the driving easier. Bike riders should wear full leathers, gloves and boots as well as a helmet.

During a race, the marshals will use a series of different coloured flags to indicate any dangers such as oil spills on the track, another driver coming up to overtake you, or crashes which mean the track has to close. For example; if the marshals flash a black flag it means you should head to the pits as there may be something wrong with your vehicle.

Some venues have full circuits, where you can try out the speed and handling of your vehicle against other drivers of the same ability. Other venues, like Santa Pod, are straightline drag strips where the focus is on achieving the fastest quarter-mile time depending on your class.

Standard car insurance policies usually won’t cover track day accidents. One-off insurance of this nature is available from some providers. It isn’t mandatory to have track day insurance but due to the nature of the event repairs can be extremely costly, so it’s worth taking out extra cover.

Drink Driving Limit – What the public think

Around 70% of the public are in favour of reducing Britain’s current drink-driving limits, a recent study has shown.

Currently, the drink-drive limit in the UK stands at 80mg of Alcohol in 100ml of blood, or 35 micrograms in 100ml of breath, which is higher than most European countries – And Transport Secretary Lord Adonis wants to decrease these figures.

The proposals would mean that the limit would become 50mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood, a figure which is largely adhered to across Europe.

The Government believe that this decrease would be responsible for preventing over 200 injuries and tens of deaths every year, and it seems that the British public agree, with over two thirds voting for the limit to be decreased.

Currently, the average man can drink two pints of normal strength lager and be right on the limit, but under the new rules an averagely built man would in fact be over the limit after one pint, or large glass of wine and women would be over the limit after a small glass of wine or half a pint of beer.

There are also plans to introduce an even lower limit on novice drivers and HGV drivers, which would in essence be a zero-tolerance approach to drink driving.

Drinking and driving really isn’t worth the bother – after all, being caught not only means a ban and a criminal record, you are also likely to have to pay a fine upon being caught. The conviction stays on record longer than speeding as well – being caught drink driving will stay on your license for 11 years, making car insurance prohibitively expensive as well – in many cases people see their premiums double when a drink-driving conviction is declared on an insurance application – and not declaring it means you run the risk of your insurance not paying…

Weighing in at just 2,395 lbs, the 1,000-hp model goes from 0 to 60 mph in 2.2 seconds with a top speed of 262 mph.
Prices for the Venom GT are expected to start at $600,000 for the base model. The 1,200-hp model will run you $725,000.
