(from Mini Press Release) MINI Baker Street: an individualist with a taste for extravagance.

New exterior and interior design details developed exclusively for the MINI Baker Street mark out this special-edition model. The Rooftop Grey metallic exterior paint shade combines with special bonnet stripes whose basic colour black is given extra character by a subtle V-shape design. 16-inch 6-Star twin-spoke light-alloy wheels painted in high-gloss black along with matching black exterior mirror caps present an attractive contrast to the bold, contemporary appearance of the new exterior paintwork.

The MINI Baker Street can also be ordered as an option in the body shades Pepper White and Midnight Black. In MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper D trim the roof is painted black, while “Baker Street” lettering on the side scuttles framing the side indicators points to the exclusive character of this special-edition model.

In the interior a fresh interpretation of the cloth/leather seats available for the standard MINI teams up with exclusive interior surfaces to create an unmistakable ambience. In traditional British style, the surfaces of the new seat variant in Cross Check Rooftop Grey light feature a diamond pattern. Cross Check Rooftop Grey light is also used for the surfaces of the cockpit and door trim and is combined with a Rooftop Grey light Colour Line. Light grey contrast stitching for the floor mats, gearshift/selector lever as well as the handbrake gaiters and seat tags which, like the door sills, bear “Baker Street” lettering, round off the array of bespoke interior features. The Chrome Line Interior package adds further lustre.

The equipment list for the MINI Baker Street also includes the Pepper Pack, which brings with it air conditioning, an on-board computer, a leather steering wheel, the Chrome Line Exterior package, front foglamps, a lighting package and height adjustment for the front passenger seat. The range of optional equipment, meanwhile, offers a host of other items with which customers can tailor their car to their personal requirements. The range of available engine variants for the MINI Baker Street spans the MINI One (72 kW/98 hp), MINI Cooper (90 kW/122 hp), MINI One D (66 kW/90 hp) and MINI Cooper D (82 kW/112 hp). All the engines channel their power through a six-speed manual gearbox as standard or an optional six-speed automatic.

For visitors to London and locals alike, the MINI Baker Street’s name will be synonymous with the address of a certain fictional hero. It is 125 years since Sherlock Holmes author Arthur Conan Doyle released his first story with the master detective in the title role. Today, the Sherlock Holmes Museum and Madame Tussauds waxworks museum can both be found just a stone’s throw from Baker Street underground station.

(from Mini Press Release) New city slickers: The MINI Baker Street and MINI Bayswater. Olympic host city and style capital London provides fresh design inspiration for MINI special editions. New models boast exclusive equipment and tradition-laced titles.

Munich. With just months to go before the Olympic Games get under way in the capital city of the brand’s home country, MINI introduces two new special-edition models to spread contemporary London style around the world. The latest takes on the MINI character – the MINI Baker Street and MINI Bayswater – will go on sale in spring 2012. Expressive design features and exclusive equipment inject the cars’ exterior appearance, interior ambience and hallmark driving fun with their own distinctive flavours. The MINI Baker Street embodies the youthful, fresh and innovative trend-setting style of the brand, while the MINI Bayswater focuses primarily on the sporting verve and agile handling for which MINI is renowned.

Both special-edition models will be produced over a limited period and offered for sale worldwide. The MINI Baker Street can be ordered in MINI One, MINI Cooper, MINI One D and MINI Cooper D guise, while the MINI Bayswater is available as a MINI Cooper, MINI Cooper S, MINI Cooper D and MINI Cooper SD.

MINI Bayswater: the extrovert sportsman.

The MINI Bayswater wears its inherent sporting élan and extrovert style very much on its sleeve. The Kite Blue metallic exterior paintwork was created exclusively for the special-edition model, as was the interior design and 17-inch light-alloy Sandblast wheels with high-gloss black surfaces and bright machined rim and spoke edges. Midnight Black metallic and Eclipse Grey metallic paint shades can be ordered for the MINI Cooper S and MINI Cooper SD as an alternative to the new, radiant Blue finish. The sporty appearance of the MINI Bayswater is emphasised by the black contrasting roof and the likewise newly created Sport Stripes for the bonnet, which streak dynamically towards the windscreen. The exterior mirror caps carry an identical stripe design – blue on the right-hand side of the car, grey on the left.

“Bayswater” lettering adorns the side indicator surrounds, door sills and seat tags. The Punch Leather seats come in the exclusive colour variant Rocklite Anthracite and include side bolsters sporting a metallic sheen and blue and grey contrast stitching. Two-tone contrast stitching also adorns the gearshift/selector lever and handbrake gaiters.

Other innovative design features in the interior include Piano Black cockpit trim strips, which continue the path set by the Sport Stripes over the bonnet, and the leather Colour Line elements in Rocklite Anthracite, whose classy character is emphasised by black stitching. The same leather variant is also used for the armrests, while the model-specific floor mats have anthracite-coloured edging and blue contrast stitching.

The MINI Bayswater also comes with stainless steel pedals and the Chrome Line Interior package, and includes the Pepper Pack in its range of equipment. Plus, the new special edition can likewise be specified with a wide variety of items from the optional equipment list if further individual touches are desired.

In keeping with its sporting charisma, the MINI Bayswater lines up for action with powerful engines at its fingertips. Customers can order their MINI Bayswater in MINI Cooper (90 kW/122 hp), MINI Cooper S (135 kW/184 hp), MINI Cooper D (82 kW/112 hp) or MINI Cooper SD (105 kW/143 hp) trim. The special-edition model is also delivered with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, while a six-speed automatic features in the options range.

The MINI Bayswater takes its name from an extremely vibrant area of London. Located to the west of the city centre – halfway between the shopping hot spots of Knightsbridge and Notting Hill – Bayswater is best known for its unusually high density of bars and restaurants, not to mention the adjacent and no less famous Hyde Park. MINI is therefore returning to the London theme to further accentuate the link with both its home country and the fascination surrounding the London lifestyle. Indeed, both the MINI Bayswater and MINI Baker Street are following in the tyre tracks of a naming tradition begun by the classic Mini and reprised more recently with the MINI Camden, MINI Mayfair and MINI Clubman Hampton special editions.

(from AC Schnitzer Press Release) Even more sporting: The MINI Cooper Coupé by AC Schnitzer

A really sporting example recently celebrated its premiere: the standard model of the MINI Cooper Coupé. But the MINI tuning experts at AC Schnitzer are working “Beyond the standard”, as demonstrated by some impressive tuning highlights for the agile two-seater.

Performance upgrades for the MINI Cooper SD Coupé and S Coupé are currently in development and planning respectively. Balanced handling on the exit from tight corners is already guaranteed by the AC Schnitzer limited slip differential for the MINI Cooper S Coupé with locking up to 75%.

The perfect driving experience is enhanced by the acoustic qualities of the AC Schnitzer sports rear silencer of stainless steel with chromed Racing tailpipe trim for the MINI Cooper S and the John Cooper Works Coupé. The AC Schnitzer sports exhaust system optimally balances the complete exhaust system to the demands of higher power and tuned engines.

The promises made by a sporting engine are backed up by the AC Schnitzer high performance brake system. The 4-piston fixed caliper brakes (left/right) with slotted discs (left/right), the set of brake pads, caliper holder and steel flexible brake lines, hold the thoroughbred two-seater in check.
Like every athlete, the MINI Cooper Coupé needs high performance “movement gear“. In the case of the MINI Cooper Coupé by AC Schnitzer, this includes a height-adjustable racing suspension or the AC Schnitzer suspension spring kit, an aluminium strut brace and special antiroll bar for the rear axle which further reinforce the Go-kart-like driving sensation so characteristic of the MINI.

Its extravagant body style identifies the MINI Cooper Coupé as an absolute athlete. But to demonstrate that AC Schnitzer know-how has also been applied to your MINI, you can opt for the AC Schnitzer decor set available in various designs, together with the rear “Technology & Design“ sticker.
In the interior too, the MINI Cooper Coupé by AC Schnitzer is a whole length ahead of the standard model. The standard premium comfort can be enhanced by the AC Schnitzer gear knob with digital gear display, aluminium pedal set, foot rests, “Black Line” handbrake handle and velours foot mats.
A sporting stance on the road is provided by the AC Schnitzer Mi2 BiColor wheels in 18 inch or the Mi 1 silver wheels in 17 inch with corresponding tyres.

In this guise, the MINI Cooper Coupé is guaranteed a place on the top step of the podium. Last but not least, competitors will be most impressed by the chromed AC Schnitzer exhaust trim. Because successful race cars are usually only viewed from one perspective: behind.

(from H&R Springs Press Release) H&R Springs 2011 MINI Countryman ALL4

The MINI brand has made great strides in restoring the charm of compact motoring. By reviving a name that practically invented cute, MINI has changed America’s opinion of compact cars; instead of being cheap, they’re smart and stylish.

No surprise, then, that the MINI brand is growing—both in product offerings and size. One of its latest offerings is the MINI Countryman ALL4, a sporty sedan that blends respectable performance and everyday practicality in a package that, while bigger, still makes you smile.

H&R Special Springs, LP of Bellingham, Washington, retained the basic essence of the Mini’s message, then added some of its world-renown suspension components and a few well-chosen aftermarket products to turn the cute Countryman into a performance sedan with real street cred.

H&R’s Sport Springs lower the Mini for an awesome street stance without affecting ride quality, while its TRAK+ wheel spacers create the perfect offset for the BE by Breyton GTF2 wheels. Measuring 18 x 8” front and rear, these wheels are shod with 225/45ZR18 Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires for great looks and improved cornering grip.

To augment the Mini’s already strong turbocharged engine, H&R added an Alta Performance Front Mount Intercooler and Cold Air Intake package, as well as a Borla stainless steel exhaust system and Motul lubricants. Slotted brake rotors and blue Goodridge steel braided steel lines continue the car’s performance message on the outside.

All wheel drive means driving in all kinds of weather, so the Countryman’s sole interior enhancement was a set of Weathertech Floor Mats to keep the carpet in as-new condition.

The MINI Countryman is already a fun car–but with H&R components and some aftermarket additions, it’s fun to drive, too.

The driving fun sewn into the fabric of every MINI never fails to bring a smile to the face. And now it can also be enjoyed – with the roof up or down – in the first model from the brand designed strictly for two people. The MINI Roadster, the sixth model in the British premium carmaker’s current line-up, gives the small car segment another innovative shot in the arm. The typically MINI interpretation of a compact roadster embodies unadulterated sportiness and spontaneous urban driving fun under the open sky. Powerful engines and sophisticated chassis technology with model-specific tuning see to it that the characteristic MINI go-kart feeling is always on tap. And the MINI Roadster’s classical soft-top roof, which can be easily opened and closed manually, ensures open-top driving pleasure can be lapped up at every opportunity.

The faithful reproduction of the hallmark MINI design language within the proportions of a roadster gives the first open-top two-seater in the history of MINI an unmistakable and irresistible charisma. Even with the roof closed the MINI Roadster displays an elegant, sweeping silhouette, with the transition from soft-top to rear end highlighting its characteristic three-box design particularly clearly. This layout encompasses a clear visual separation of the car’s boot (capacity: 240 litres) from the passenger compartment, while a wide through-loading system behind the seats enhances practicality.

The MINI Roadster will be available with a choice of four powerful yet also efficient petrol and diesel engines from launch. The model line-up ranges from the MINI Cooper Roadster (90 kW/122 hp), via the MINI Cooper SD Roadster (105 kW/143 hp) and MINI Cooper S Roadster (135 kW/184 hp), to the sharpest performer of all, the 155 kW/211 hp MINI John Cooper Works Roadster. A quality of chassis technology unparalleled in the small car segment, including Electric Power Steering and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), combines with the torsionally rigid body (complete with special strengthening elements) and the car’s lower centre of gravity to deliver addictive agility and unbeatable active and passive safety. Meanwhile, front and head-thorax airbags, an extremely rigid windscreen frame and
polished stainless steel roll-over bars fixed to the body join forces in the name of occupant protection. The aerodynamic balance of the MINI Roadster is optimised by an active rear spoiler.

Spontaneous, open, irresistible: The MINI Roadster underlines its premium character with a high-quality range of standard equipment, including air conditioning (MINI Cooper S Roadster, MINI Cooper SD Roadster, MINI John Cooper Works Roadster), speedsensitive steering assistance, electrically adjustable exterior mirrors, Park Distance Control, height-adjustable seats and an audio system with MP3-compatible CD player and AUX IN connection. Levels of comfort and individuality can be further enhanced by specifying attractive options such as xenon Adaptive Headlights, black headlight housing, Comfort Access and the Always Open Timer. And the MINI Roadster also offers in-car use of
innovative MINI Connected infotainment and communications functions.

The roadster, MINI-style: unique and unmistakable.

The MINI Roadster is not only the sole premium model of its kind in the small car segment, it also ranks as the only open-top two-seater in the brand’s history. The principles of the MINI design language are faithfully reflected in the body design of the new concept. For example, the athletically taut surfaces, harmonious curves and parallel lines typical of MINI cars are complemented by a sloping windscreen frame raked by an extra 13 degrees over the MINI Convertible, a short passenger compartment distilled around two seats, and a flat boot lid. A waistline rising up slightly along the length of the body to the clearly stepped boot and the deliberately low-slung silhouette – even with the roof closed – give the MINI Roadster an elegantly stretched appearance. At the same time, the new model wears its brand identity on its sleeve thanks to unmistakable design features like the hexagonal contours of its radiator grille, the black border around the lower part of the body, chrome trim strips and surrounds, large circular headlights, vertically stacked rear lights positioned on the outer extremes of the rear end, and the eye-catching surrounds of the side indicators on the front side panels.

With an exterior length of 3,734 millimetres (MINI Cooper Roadster: 3,728 millimetres, MINI John Cooper Works Roadster: 3,758 millimetres), wheelbase of 2,467 millimetres and width of 1,683 millimetres, the dimensions of the MINI Roadster largely mirror those of the MINI Convertible. Standing just 1,390 tall (MINI Cooper Roadster: 1,384 millimetres, MINI John Cooper Works Roadster: 1,391 millimetres), i.e. more than 20 millimetres lower than its four-seater soft-top stablemate, the new
two-seater cuts a distinctive, low-slung and elegantly stretched figure from the side. A windscreen frame that is more heavily raked and tapers upwards more sharply than that of the MINI Convertible also gives it a clearly distinguishable appearance when viewed head-on.

Clean, classic, opens and closes with the flick of a wrist: the manually operated soft-top roof.

Another example of the faithful transposition of MINI design into the compact roadster template comes in the form of the robust, all-season durability of the soft-top roof. When closed, the roof – which shares the simple style of classic British roadsters – “cascades” downwards, broadening as it heads
towards the body and underlining to fine effect the typically MINI, powerful over-the-wheel stance. When opened, the roof folds down flat behind the seats, keeping the car’s elegantly sweeping lines intact. And since the outer skin of the roof faces upwards, there is no need for any additional cover. The manual opening and closing mechanism of the soft-top roof allows the driver to usher in his next dose of open-top driving pleasure without a second’s thought. And the roof can be closed again equally quickly to protect the driver and passenger from less welcome weather. The roof is opened by
turning the release lever on the windscreen frame though 130 degrees and swivelling the soft-top back in a single movement behind the seats, where it locks into place. The process for closing the roof again is triggered by pressing a button positioned between the roll-over bars, which allows the roof
to extend back out of its anchorage points assisted by gas-pressure springs. It can then be pulled forward with the help of the release lever and fixed in place again against the windscreen frame.

Bespoke range of exterior paint finishes, Sport Stripes and interior design elements
offer the key to individuality.

A range of two non-metallic and six metallic paint shades are available for the exterior of the MINI Roadster. In keeping with British roadster tradition, the roof remains in black. Sport Stripes, available in three colours for the bonnet, boot lid and rear apron, allow owners to add an extra personal touch.
The light-alloy wheels fitted as standard on the MINI Roadster come in 15, 16 or 17-inch formats, depending on the model variant. A selection of other light-alloy wheels are available as an option in the same sizes.

The customary MINI variety of seat and upholstery variants includes ultraexclusive piped sports seats in the colour shade Toffy. Added to which, black sports seats are also available in Punch Leather with beige-coloured perforations. Trim strips can be ordered in any of six variants, while an extra Chili Red option is also offered for the MINI John Cooper Works Roadster.

A choice of five Colour Lines is also available, and customers may likewise choose to explore the additional, extremely exclusive interior design options offered by the MINI Yours range.

A well-rounded concept delivering driving fun without compromises.

The absence of a rear seat bench allows the MINI Roadster to offer 240 litres of luggage space. Plus, the high-opening tailgate and low boot sill makes it that much easier to load up items of luggage, while a 36 cm (14 in.) wide and 20 cm (approx. 8 in.) high through-loading system that can also be opened
from the driver’s or passenger’s seat provides added versatility. The MINI Roadster also comes with larger door bins, three cupholders, and a cross-rack behind the seats.

Another stand-out feature of the MINI Roadster are the stainless steel rollover bars, the front of which are padded. Together with the reinforced windscreen frame, they provide optimised occupant protection in the event of the car turning over. Dynamically formed contours ensure that the roll-over bars and windscreen frame combine to impressive effect in terms of design, too. The safety equipment on board the new MINI Roadster also includes front airbags and head-thorax airbags integrated into the outer sides of the seat backrests, three-point inertia-reel seat belts including belt force limiters and belt tensioners, and a Tyre Defect Indicator.

Bodyshell stiffening at the rear increases the torsional rigidity of the body and combines with extra-sturdy side sills to enhance the strength of the passenger cell. In addition, the MINI Roadster also features built-in innovative pedestrian protection measures and special stiffening elements in the front
section. These result in a slightly higher front axle load rating compared with the MINI, which gives the front wheels extra traction. In addition, the use of a comparatively lightweight, manually operated soft-top roof lowers the car’s centre of gravity. The impressive body rigidity of the MINI Roadster and its
dynamically favourable weight distribution provide the ideal platform for agile and precise handling.

Optimised aerodynamic properties also play their role in a vehicle concept geared to enjoying driving fun to the full. The heavily raked A-pillars and windscreen reduce the frontal area of the body and therefore levels of drag. Added to which, the MINI Roadster is fitted with an active rear spoiler. Integrated into the tailgate, the spoiler extends automatically as soon as the MINI Roadster reaches 80 km/h (50 mph). When the car’s speed drops back below 60 km/h (37 mph), a four-part control mechanism returns the spoiler to its rest position. The active rear spoiler, which can also be operated
manually using a button in the control panel on the windscreen frame, provides 40 kilograms (88 lb) of extra downforce when travelling at maximum speed.

Airflow has been optimised to an even greater degree on the MINI John Cooper Works Roadster. The most powerful member of the Roadster line-up is fitted with a John Cooper Works aerodynamic kit
as standard in a nod to its exceptionally dynamic performance capability

Latest-generation four-cylinder engines: addictive sportiness, impressive efficiency.

The MINI Roadster is available with the three most powerful petrol engines and the highest-output diesel unit in the brand’s line-up. The state-of-the-art engines all boast sporty power delivery combined with exemplary efficiency, and all variants of the MINI Roadster carry the Cooper name in their model
titles. This reference to legendary ex-Formula One racing car designer John Cooper, who used to race the classic Mini, marks out a car with particular sporting capability.

The MINI Cooper Roadster represents an extremely lively entry point into the Roadster line-up. Its 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine boasts a fully variable valve control system – based on the VALVETRONIC technology used in BMW engines – which sharpens the engine’s responses yet also lowers fuel
consumption and emissions. With output rising to 90 kW/122 hp at 6,000 rpm and maximum torque of 160 Newton metres (118 lb-ft) generated at 4,250 rpm, the powerplant accelerates the MINI Cooper Roadster from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 9.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 199 km/h (124 mph).

Its average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle stands at 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres (49.6 mpg imp), while CO2 emissions come in at 133 grams per kilometre. In addition to fully variable valve control, MINI TwinPower Turbo technology also features a twin-scroll turbocharger and petrol direct injection – a technology package that makes the 1.6-litre engine in the MINI Cooper S Roadster the world’s most efficient in its displacement class.

The powerplant develops its maximum output of 135 kW/184 hp at 5,500 rpm. Peak torque of 240 Newton metres (177 lb-ft) is available as low down as 1,600 rpm and can hit 260 Newton metres (192 lb-ft) in a short burst courtesy of the Overboost function. All of which means the MINI Cooper S Roadster powers from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.0 seconds on the way to a top speed of 227 km/h (141 mph). These performance figures contrast with average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle of
6.0 litres per 100 kilometres (47.1 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions of 139 grams per kilometre.

The latest model variant from MINI’s John Cooper Works sub-brand showcases its sporting potential with even greater intent. The MINI John Cooper Works Roadster is powered by a 155 kW/211 hp
four-cylinder engine with MINI TwinPower Turbo technology. The 1.6-litre unit generates its maximum output at 6,000 rpm, with peak torque of 260 Newton metres (192 lb-ft) on stream at 1,850 rpm. The Overboost function briefly pushes this figure up to 280 Newton metres (207 lb-ft). 6.5 seconds is all it takes the MINI John Cooper Works Roadster to blast from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph). Top speed is 237 km/h (147 mph). Added to which, with average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle of 7.3 litres per
100 kilometres (38.7 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions of 169 grams per kilometre, the MINI John Cooper Works Roadster boasts extraordinary efficiency for an open-top car in this output class.

Leading the way in terms of torque and economy, the 2.0-litre diesel engine with MINI TwinPower Turbo technology under the bonnet of the MINI Cooper SD Roadster is the ideal addition to the range of petrol units. The four-cylinder powerplant features an aluminium crankcase, a turbocharger with variable intake geometry, and common-rail direct injection with solenoid-valve injectors, and develops 105 kW/143 hp at 4,000 rpm and peak torque of 305 Newton metres (225 lb-ft) between 1,750 and 2,700 rpm. All this allows the MINI Cooper SD Roadster to dash from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 212 km/h (132 mph).

The diesel Roadster headlines its outstanding efficiency with average fuel consumption of 4.5 litres per 100 kilometres (62.8 mpg imp) in the EU test cycle and CO2 emissions of 118 grams per kilometre.
The MINI Cooper Roadster and MINI Cooper SD Roadster are equipped as standard with extensive MINIMALISM technology. This further reduces their fuel consumption and emissions thanks to features including Brake Energy Regeneration, the Auto Start/Stop function, Shift Point Display, Electric Power Steering and ancillary components working according to need. The MINI Cooper Roadster, MINI Cooper S Roadster and MINI Cooper SD Roadster can also be specified with an optional six-speed automatic gearbox with Steptronic function as an alternative to the six-speed manual item fitted as standard across the MINI Roadster range.

Agile, precise, stable: go-kart feeling in a roadster wrapping.

Teaming up with the powerful engines and customary MINI front-wheel drive, chassis technology of a quality unparalleled in the small car segment imbues the MINI Roadster with the brand’s hallmark driving fun. MacPherson struts at the front axle, a multi-link rear axle, Electric Power Steering with speedsensitive assistance, powerful brakes offering excellent feel, and bespoke tuning for all chassis components come together to produce a new interpretation of the time-honoured MINI go-kart feeling. Sports suspension, which brings stiffer damper characteristics, sturdier anti-roll bars and upgraded springs, is available as an option.

A Sport Button on the centre console, standard in the case of the MINI John Cooper Works Roadster and optionally available for all other model versions, allows the driver to adjust the car’s steering characteristics and accelerator responses. If the optional six-speed automatic gearbox is specified, pressing this button also shortens shift times.

The standard DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system selectively brakes individual wheels and reduces engine power to prevent a front or rear-end slide. The system includes ABS anti-lock braking, EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), CBC (Cornering Brake Control), Brake Assist and Hill Start
Assistant. DSC also adds DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) with EDLC (Electronic Differential Lock Control) for the driven axle as standard on the MINI John Cooper Works Roadster and as an option on all other model variants.

MINI Roadster: premium two-seater with high-quality standard equipment and exclusive options.

The interior of the MINI Roadster features – in typical brand style – a large Centre Speedo and a rev counter positioned directly behind the steering wheel. The sports seats fitted as standard in the MINI Cooper S Roadster, MINI Cooper SD Roadster and MINI John Cooper Works Roadster offer
outstanding lateral support through quickly-taken corners. Standard specification also includes air conditioning (MINI Cooper S Roadster, MINI Cooper SD Roadster, MINI John Cooper Works Roadster), Park Distance Control with rear sensors, height-adjustable seats and electrically adjustable exterior mirrors.

The comfort and individuality of the MINI Roadster can be further enhanced with items from the range of high-quality options, some unique in the small car segment. For example, Adaptive Headlights and black headlight housing are available in conjunction with the optional xenon headlights. Among the other options customers can choose from are Comfort Access, an on-board computer, a multifunction steering wheel, the Always Open Timer, automatic climate control, heated seats, automatically dimming rear-view mirror and exterior mirrors, an armrest, the storage package, and preparation for a rear luggage carrier rack. Also available as an option are Recaro sports seats in a leather/Dinamica combination with optimised lateral support, extended thigh support, integrated head restraints and an embossed John Cooper Works by Recaro logo. Customers can also dip into the selection of exclusive options available from the MINI Yours range and ultra-sporty John Cooper Works options and accessories.

Only from MINI Connected: innovative entertainment and communications functions.

The MINI Roadster comes as standard with the radio MINI CD audio system (MINI John Cooper Works Roadster: radio MINI Boost CD), while an extra dose of entertainment pleasure can be specified in the form of the Harman Kardon hi-fi loudspeaker system and USB audio interface. The radio MINI Visual Boost and MINI navigation system link up with a 6.5-inch, high-resolution colour display in the Centre Speedo. If these options are specified, MINI Connected allows Apple iPhone owners access to internet-based services inside the car. The MINI Connected App opens the door to a web radio function, use of Google services, Facebook and Twitter, reception of RSS news feeds, the MINIMALISM Analyser, Mission Control and Dynamic Music functions, as well as the latest Driving Excitement functions, such as Condition Check, Force Meter and digital sports instruments.

The MINI Coupé therefore takes a thoroughly modern route to delivering an extra dose of urban driving fun. At the same time, the brand’s racing genes are clearly reflected in its character. Customers can choose from a selection of four engines for their MINI Coupé. All the model variants carry the Cooper name in their designation. Traditionally, this familiar badge has been a sign of outstanding sporting ability and a nod to the brand’s association with legendary Formula One designer John Cooper. This is the man who smoothed the passage of the classic Mini into race competition. Its racing exploits have long since passed into legend, reaching their zenith with three overall victories in the Monte Carlo Rally. The MINI Coupé has also been created with winning in mind. Indeed, the MINI Cooper Coupé, MINI Cooper S Coupé, MINI John Cooper Works Coupé and MINI Cooper SD Coupé offer a blend of fuel consumption and driving fun unmatched within their respective output classes.

Outputs stretch from the 90 kW/122 hp of the MINI Cooper Coupé, to the MINI Cooper SD Coupé with 105 kW/143 hp and MINI Cooper S Coupé with 135 kW/184 hp, all the way up to the extremely sporty MINI John Cooper Works Coupé developing 155 kW/211 hp. The MINI Cooper Coupé, MINI Cooper S Coupé and MINI Cooper SD Coupé are available with an optional six-speed automatic gearbox as an alternative to the six-speed manual item fitted as standard across the Coupé range.
3. Instantaneous power. Engines and transmissions.

MINI Cooper Coupé: high in energy, low in CO2.

The new member of the MINI family displays an infectious spirit and verve – even in entry-level form. The four-cylinder petrol engine in the MINI Cooper Coupé produces 90 kW/122 hp from its 1.6-litre displacement, reaching this maximum output at 6,000 rpm. Peak torque of 160 Newton metres (118 lb-ft) is on tap at 4,250 rpm. The secret behind the engine’s lightning-fast response to every movement of the accelerator pedal lies primarily in the fully variable valve management system unique in the MINI segment. This throttle-free load control technology is based on the VALVETRONIC system found in BMW engines and optimises both the engine’s responsiveness and its fuel consumption and emissions. Within fractions of a second, the valve management wizardry adjusts the stroke and opening period of the intake valves to the amount of output required, with the camshaft acting on the valves through an additional intermediate arm, and not directly through the cam follower. The pivot point of this additional intermediate arm is infinitely adjustable by an eccentric shaft controlled by an electric motor. The throttle butterfly – used to control load in conventional engines – is fitted solely as an emergency backup and for diagnostic purposes. Under normal circumstances it remains fully open at all times to minimise flow losses in the intake manifold.

The MINI Cooper Coupé uses this instantaneous pulling power to deliver impressive acceleration and races from rest to the 100 km/h (62 mph) mark in just 9.0 seconds. Its top speed stands at 204 km/h (127 mph). This performance contrasts with average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle of 5.4 litres per 100 km (52.3 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions of 127 grams per kilometre.

MINI Cooper S Coupé: unbeatable efficiency, intoxicating driving fun.

The likewise 1.6-litre power unit under the bonnet of the MINI Cooper S Coupé comes with fully variable valve management as part of a package of technology which also features a twin-scroll turbocharger and petrol direct injection. In this type of charge system the ducts of two cylinders are combined with one another in the exhaust manifold and in the turbocharger. This construction leads to instantaneous development of charge pressure. Meanwhile, direct injection allows extremely precise amounts of fuel to be fed into the cylinders, promoting clean and efficient combustion. The combination of turbocharging, direct injection and variable valve management produces maximum output of 135 kW/184 hp at 5,500 rpm and makes the four-cylinder unit in the MINI Cooper S Coupé the world’s most efficient engine in its displacement class.

Maximum torque of 240 Newton metres (177 lb-ft) is on tap as low down as 1,600 rpm, and can be raised to 260 Newton metres (192 lb-ft) for a short time using the Overboost. This function serves up additional pulling power to ensure particularly dynamic acceleration. The MINI Cooper S Coupé dashes from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 6.9 seconds, and its top speed stands at 230 km/h (143 mph). These performance figures team up with average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle of 5.8 litres per 100 km (48.7 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions of 136 grams per kilometre.
MINI John Cooper Works Coupé: an extreme athlete in peak form.

The exceptionally sporty MINI models bearing the John Cooper Works badge hold a very special status within the model range. Features such as engine technology derived directly from motor sport mark them out from the norm. The MINI John Cooper Works Coupé adds another top-class athlete to the MINI ranks. A 155 kW/211 hp four-cylinder engine with twin-scroll turbocharger and direct injection imbues it with unrestrained power, giving it the tools to do what MINI does best – entertaining drivers – even better.

The 1.6-litre engine under the bonnet of the MINI John Cooper Works Coupé is largely the same as the unit powering the competitors in the MINI CHALLENGE Clubsport series. Numerous technical details originate directly from developments in motor sport, including the aluminium cylinder block and bearing mounts, reinforced pistons, a particularly high-strength cylinder head and lightweight crankshafts. The exhaust valves are sodium-filled to provide the extra cooling required by a turbocharged engine, and the intake camshaft features infinite phase adjustment. The modified turbocharger develops even greater charge pressure than the engine in the MINI Cooper S Coupé. The model-specific exhaust system can be identified from the outside by its polished stainless steel twin tailpipes, while its resonant soundtrack – best sampled from inside the cabin – adds a distinctive extra layer to the extreme sports machine’s character.

The engine generates peak output at 6,000 rpm and produces maximum torque of 260 Newton metres (192 lb-ft); the Overboost function pushes this figure up to 280 Newton metres (207 lb-ft) for a short time. The instantaneous power development ensures imposing acceleration, the MINI John Cooper Works Coupé rocketing from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.4 seconds on the way to a top speed of 240 km/h (149 mph). And yet average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle is kept at an unusually low level for cars in this output class; the MINI John Cooper Works Coupé burns just 7.1 litres of fuel per 100 km (39.8 mpg imp) and has CO2 emissions of 165 grams per kilometre.
MINI Cooper SD Coupé: brawny yet economical.

As an alternative to the three petrol units, the MINI Coupé can also be ordered with a diesel engine. Its incredibly sporty power development allows it to slot perfectly into the engine line-up, where it occupies pole position in the efficiency standings. The four-cylinder diesel unit under the bonnet of the MINI Cooper SD Coupé comes with an all-aluminium crankcase, a turbocharger with variable intake geometry and common-rail direct injection with solenoid-valve injectors. It produces a maximum output of 105 kW/143 hp from its 2.0-litre displacement, a figure achieved at 4,000 rpm. Thanks to muscular pulling power sustained all the way from low engine speeds into the higher reaches of the rev range, the most powerful diesel representative of the MINI engine line-up offers both an impressive balance between power and fuel economy and the ideal platform for a sporty driving style.

The engine’s maximum torque of 305 Newton metres 225 (166 lb-ft) is available between 1,750 and 2,700 rpm, and the MINI Cooper SD Coupé needs a mere 7.9 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph). Top speed is 216 km/h (134 mph). Proof of its outstanding efficiency is demonstrated by average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle of 4.3 litres per 100 km (65.7 mpg imp). The CO2 emissions of the MINI Cooper SD Coupé stand at 114 grams per kilometre.

A lot of power from a little fuel: MINIMALISM technology as standard.

All model variants of the MINI Coupé come as standard with a wide range of MINIMALISM technology. In addition to the engines’ efficiency, features such as Brake Energy Regeneration, the Auto Start/Stop function, Shift Point Display, Electric Power Steering and the need-based operation of ancillary components help to make efficient use of the energy contained in the fuel and deliver exceptionally low CO2 emissions. Added to which, innovative thermal encapsulation of the drivetrain shortens the fuel-sapping warm-up period after a cold start.

The standard-fitted six-speed manual gearbox sets a new benchmark in the segment with its short shift travel and impressively precise action. A ready-to-drive weight of 44.8 kilograms (98.7 lb) makes this the lightest gearbox of its kind. The MINI Cooper S Coupé and MINI Cooper SD Coupé come with a new, self-adjusting clutch. Automatic readjustment ensures that the pedal feel you expect from a MINI is there to be enjoyed over the car’s full service life. Plus, the synchronisation of the gears is further optimised by a carbon coating for the clutch linings. The ratios have been set to ensure that each gear change takes place at the optimum engine speed and thus allows a rapid progression of the acceleration process.

A six-speed automatic gearbox with Steptronic function can be ordered for the MINI Cooper Coupé, MINI Cooper S Coupé and MINI Cooper SD Coupé as an option. With its exceptionally short shift times and direct “target gear” finding capability on downshifts, the automatic likewise showcases the sporting character of the MINI Coupé. The driver can also change gear manually using the selector lever, while shift paddles on the steering wheel are available as an additional option.

The suspension system effortlessly translates the power of the MINI Coupé engines into a fun-filled and agile driving experience, delivering the sharp handling typical of MINI that also contributes to a high standard of active safety. With the suspension technology closely matched to the engine power, the MINI Coupé provides the most intensive expression to date of the trademark MINI driving experience, or go-kart feeling. Even when pushed hard in dynamic driving situations, the outstanding quality of the suspension, control arms, steering and brake system ensures confident control of the vehicle at all times.

The MINI Coupé owes its agility and sure, safe handling not only to front-wheel drive and superior suspension technology, but also to a low centre of gravity, a long wheelbase measuring 2,467 millimetres, and a front and rear track width of 1,459 and 1,467 mm respectively. The Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system is fitted as standard on the MINI Coupé. With its extensive functionality, it adds to the safe and sporty handling qualities.

Suspension technology: specific to MINI and unique in its segment.

Using top-quality components and a design that draws on the outstanding engineering expertise of the BMW Group, the MINI range offers suspension quality that is unique in this segment. In the MINI Coupé too, the suspension technology – as ever designed specifically and exclusively for the MINI – plays a big part in giving the vehicle its typical MINI character. This MINI-specific development approach is also responsible for the excellent balance between ride comfort and cornering stability, as well as the remarkably low levels of torque steer even when accelerating hard.

MacPherson strut front suspension provides excellent wheel location, while the sophisticated kinematics of the multi-link rear suspension maintain optimal road grip at all times. The longitudinal control arms are made of aluminium, which cuts down on weight. Anti-roll bars reduce body roll to a minimum and make their own contribution to safety and agility. The suspension components have been meticulously adapted to the sporty personality and specific weight balance of the MINI Coupé and the body calibration on all model versions emphasises their sparkling handling characteristics. The optional sports suspension has firmer damper settings and comes with sturdier anti-roll bars front and rear. For a “hard-core” racing experience, the accessories range offers John Cooper Works suspension, with a 10 mm drop in ride height, ultra-firm damping and anti-roll bars whose diameter is even larger than on the sports suspension package.

15-inch alloy wheels are standard specification on the MINI Cooper Coupé, with a 16-inch version standard on the MINI Cooper S Coupé and MINI Cooper SD Coupé. The MINI John Cooper Works Coupé is specified with 17-inch, weight-optimised alloy wheels in John Cooper Works Cross Spoke CHALLENGE styling. This model has run-flat tyres, so it is possible to continue driving, subject to certain restrictions, even after a complete loss of tyre pressure. The run-flat tyres are also available, as an option, for all other model versions. All models feature a Tyre Defect Indicator as standard.

Guaranteed precision: Electric Power Steering and powerful brakes.

The compelling handling is also partly down to Electric Power Steering (EPS), which gives the MINI Coupé excellent directional control in all situations. This electromechanical power steering system is particularly effective at soaking up steering shocks and other vibrations. The integrated active return function ensures that the steering wheel always returns precisely to the centre position when straightening up after a turn. The speed-dependent power assist reduces the steering effort required from the driver when parking and manoeuvring and, conversely, reduces the amount of assist at higher speeds to improve road feel and directional stability.

The Electric Power Steering also helps to make the MINI more energy-efficient since its electric motor only operates on demand, when steering assistance is actually required. No power is consumed during straightline driving or steady-state cornering.

The MINI Coupé’s Electric Power Steering is also available with variable power assist levels. A Sport Button on the centre console, standard in the case of the MINI John Cooper Works Coupé and optionally available for all other model versions, allows the driver to choose between the basic power assist level and a second mode designed to support a more performance-minded driving style. This second mode requires more steering input but provides a more responsive steering feel. Simultaneously, pressing the Sport Button also alters the response characteristics of the accelerator, which immediately delivers sharper, sportier reactions.

The MINI Coupé’s model-specific braking system provides powerful, fade-free deceleration, even under the hardest braking. The vented front brake discs have a diameter of 280 millimetres on the MINI Cooper Coupé, 294 millimetres on the MINI Cooper S Coupé and MINI Cooper SD Coupé, and 316 millimetres on the MINI John Cooper Works Coupé. Optimal braking performance at the rear is provided by 259 mm discs (MINI John Cooper Works Coupé: 280 mm).

DSC Dynamic Stability Control as standard: optimised traction with DTC and EDLC.

The standard-fitted Dynamic Stability Control system, with extensive functionality, is a benchmark in the MINI segment. DSC makes an important contribution to safe and agile handling. In very dynamic driving situations and on slippery surfaces, the system can selectively brake individual wheels and reduce engine power to prevent a front- or rear-end slide at the earliest possible stage. The system includes integral anti-lock braking (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Brake Assist and Hill Start Assist.

Dynamic Stability Control is combined as standard on the MINI John Cooper Works Coupé, and optionally on all other model versions, with the Dynamic Traction Control system (DTC) with integrated Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC). DTC, which can be activated at the push of a button, raises the response thresholds to make it easier to move off on loose sand or snow, allowing the drive wheels to spin slightly in the process. DTC also allows a degree of controlled wheel slip under very sporty cornering. A longer push of the button fully deactivates the DSC system. With DSC in “off” mode, the EDLC system responds instead, in relevant situations. EDLC offers enhanced performance characteristics when accelerating hard out of corners and tight bends by precisely controlled braking of a drive wheel that is starting to spin. This improves traction without negatively affecting the understeer/oversteer characteristics of the car. The result is smoother, faster cornering.

Both in handling and body design, the MINI Coupé embodies the trademark values of the brand in a new, very intense yet at the same time highly characteristic and unmistakable form. Its appearance radiates concentrated energy, and its performance delivers concentrated driving pleasure the moment it takes to the road. The MINI Coupé’s contemporary, modern-day vehicle concept is based on a systematic, minimalist and authentic reworking of the classic hallmarks of the traditional ultra-compact sports car segment.

The MINI Coupé is the first two-seater volume-production model from MINI since the brand was relaunched. The absence of a rear seat bench creates new scope for offering spontaneous driving enjoyment for two people while at the same time catering for the requirements of an active and varied lifestyle. The spacious, adaptable boot is extremely flexible. With a large, high-opening tailgate and a wide through-loading system that can also be opened from the driver’s or passenger’s seat, the MINI Coupé offers cargo-carrying possibilities that will suit a wide range of needs, whether for daily routine, leisure or touring for two.

Unique body concept and expressive proportions.

The body design is based on an authentic interpretation of typical MINI design, with a clear emphasis on the brand’s sporty DNA. At the same time the MINI Coupé adds its own bold and distinctive styling signature which, though extending beyond individual details, does not compromise the instantly recognisable brand identity. The design language, with its combination of athletically sculpted surfaces, harmonious curves and parallel lines, follows all the salient MINI styling principles. At the same time, however, the Coupé also breaks the mould – as the first MINI to adopt a three-box body structure. Unlike the MINI, the MINI Clubman and the MINI Convertible, the MINI Coupé is divided into three distinct segments – engine compartment, passenger compartment and boot. This structure helps to create a classic and very distinctive Gran Turismo-style rear end, particularly when the MINI Coupé is seen in silhouette.

The exterior dimensions give the MINI Coupé very sporty proportions and a low, forward-thrusting profile. The new two-seater measures 3,714 mm in length (MINI Cooper S Coupé, MINI John Cooper Works Coupé: 3,734 mm) and 1,683 mm in width, with a height of 1,378 mm (MINI Cooper S Coupé, MINI John Cooper Works Coupé: 1,384 mm). In other words, while the overall length, overall width and wheelbase (2,467 mm) are almost identical to the measurements of the MINI, the overall height has been reduced by 29 millimetres. Oval recesses in the roof liner provide extra headroom inside the car.
The clear horizontal structuring into three distinct tiers – the body, the wrap-around glass areas and the strikingly superimposed roof – is a typical MINI hallmark. However, the innovative “helmet roof” in particular gives the MINI Coupé a distinctive appearance from every angle.
Also distinctive are the A-pillars and windscreen, which are more sharply raked than on the MINI. The resulting smaller frontal area gives the MINI Coupé excellent aerodynamic properties.

Stiff body, ideal weight balance.

The MINI Coupé is equipped with extra bodyshell stiffening at the rear, which means that the overall torsional rigidity of the body is even higher than on the MINI. In conjunction with the extra-sturdy side sills, this optimises the occupant protection provided by the strong passenger cell. At the same time the high level of body stiffness on the MINI Coupé also enhances agility and precise handling control.
At the front of the vehicle, too, there are special body stiffening measures, along with innovative features to improve pedestrian protection. The resulting weight distribution has major benefits for vehicle dynamics. The slight increase in front axle load rating compared with the MINI increases traction at the front wheels and helps to ensure that the engine power is effortlessly translated into sporty acceleration.

Active rear spoiler for optimised aerodynamics.

To improve airflow at higher speeds, the MINI Coupé is the first ever MINI to feature an active rear spoiler. Integrated in the bootlid, the spoiler pops up automatically when the MINI Coupé reaches a speed of 80 km/h (50 mph). When the speed drops below 60 km/h (37 mph) again, a four-part control mechanism returns the spoiler to its rest position. It is also possible to operate the active rear spoiler manually, for example for cleaning purposes, using a button in the overhead control panel.

At higher speeds, the active rear spoiler reduces lift at the rear axle to improve aerodynamic balance and road grip. The active rear spoiler forms part of a precisely configured aerodynamic concept that also includes an innovatively designed roof spoiler. This roof spoiler is fully integrated into the styling of the helmet roof. It has an opening in the centre which allows the airflow over the roof to be directed down to the rear window or, depending on speed, to the rear spoiler. This reduces rear lift and improves the driving dynamics of the MINI Coupé.

Take a look at this unique Mini Cooper that pays tribute to the Italian Job movie. By ridding the car of the cheap plastic interior look, Vilner Studio used real leather to coat much of the inside to give it a more luxurious look. Words cannot describe this car so take a look at the pictures for yourself. Lets here your comments below!

(from Vilner Press Release) Italian Job

“You know, Charlie, there are two kinds of thieves in this world: The ones who steal to enrich their lives, and the ones who steal to define their lives. Don’t be the latter. Makes you miss out on what’s really important in this life.”

This is what Donald Sutherland told Mark Wahlberg, once their characters in Italian Job walked off with $35 million in gold bullions during a jewelry burglary, acted out on Venice’s channels. Then, accompanied by the rather beautiful Charlize Theron, they launch out into a new robbery of these very same bullions. In the supporting roles we see three Mini Coopers S, which the movie characters use to sneak through the tunnels of the subway, in the sewerage tubes and through the city traffic jam.

Italian Job is one of the coolest robbery action movies, along with Mission Impossible and Ocean 11. But only the Job offers breath-taking car chases. Which makes us want one of those Minis even more. Small, powerful, fast and maneuvering. The perfect street hooligans.

However, anyone who has driven a Mini knows that the interior of this roofed cart is too plastic for an exceptional car, such as the Mini Cooper. Here, Vilner Studio steps quite successfully in the Italian Job project. Vilner has to prove that the Mini’s plastic crate may turn into a really luxurious salon. And to discretely stress on the small Cooper’s design in order to turn it into an actor, ready for the supporting role in the next remake of Italian Job.

In order to design luxury in the interior, Vilner chose brown Nappa leather, the same used in Bentley’s factory in the English county of Cheshire. Yes, this car’s interior smells like the same expensive leather used for upholstering the salons of the modern Bentleys. This leather and the skills of Vilner’s craftsmen give this Mini’s interior color and texture. They are achieved with an attractive combination between the brown Nappa leather and two colors of high-tech Alcantara.

The main figured patterns in the salon are the rhombs. They are exactly the same as the ones which greet each owner of Bentley. We see them on the seats, as well as in the doors. The rhomb pattern continues also under the form of an arch, cutting through the Alcantara covered ceiling. The doors have gained elements of smooth black leather and the original plastic is sprayed in sparkling grey. Remember this color; later on you will meet it again!

Although built mainly of solid plastic, the panel is one of the most specific elements in today’s Minis. The funky sensation is rendered by a puzzle of different shapes that flow into one another. Each piece of this puzzle enjoys individual attention under the form of new facing. Only for the puzzle, the specialists in Vilner Studio have used a total of 4 types of materials – a two-color combination of classic Nappa and Alcantara leather, inlaid with white seams. Even the rear-view mirror enjoys attention – it also stands out by its new facing of brown combination of leather and Alcantara.

On the outside, our Italian Job attracts attention like every movie star with fine prospects. The effect is achieved with a combination of grey polish, covered with matting foil with pearl effect and black mat. This play with the covers and colors is supplemented with a couple of racing lines, crossing through the middle of the coupe. All elements shining in chromium in the standard Mini (the tank cap, rings around the headlights and stop lamps, door handles, 18-inch wheel-rims) are matted in black to underline the hooligan appearance of this puppy.

This whole composition of craftsmanship, skills and specific style is supplemented by an unostentatious but definitely noticeable number on the doors. 01. In order to suggest to the slow wits who, after all, is No. 1.
