The Beachcomber is merely a design experiment with no chance of production. The thesis behind the project is that a Mini can be perfectly at home on the breezy coast. Open-air seating, all-wheel-drive, a turbo four, and detachable panels characterize the Beachcomber’s Mini-Meets-Jeep theme.
Jalopnik Gives Us Its Favorite Vehicles of the Millennium (So Far)
Filed under: Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Ferrari, Ford, Honda, Mini, Mitsubishi, Porsche
We’re pretty fond of the Jalopnik gang–partly for their insults against The Truth About Cars, and partly for their grassroots fondness for automotive and aeronautical performance. Joining a common trend this is their “Best10″ (a play on Car and Driver’s “10Best”) cars of the decade.
Here’s the list with the watered-down specs:

Video: MINI Driver vs. Non MINI Driver
Ever wondered what makes the difference between people driving a MINI and those who don’t?
MINI drivers can be recognized by the mixture of lust for life, individuality and spontaneity.
No matter what, they do not take themselves and their life too serious. We simply call it the MINI attitude.

Friday Flashback: A Brief History of the Mini
Since the UK’s Mini is about to celebrate its fiftieth anniversary, I thought it was proper to cover the English icon for this week’s Friday Flashback. The video comes courtesy of YouTube poster videomaster1, who we are rewarding with a signed copy of Madonna’s latest erotic coffee table book, Wrinkled. You can find Wrinkled at your local AARP center for a cover price of $49.99.
Video: Mini Coupe Concept
The new performance coupe will be powered by the same 1.6-liter turbocharged four with 211 HP used on the Cooper S John Cooper Works models. The video unfortunately doesn’t show the car in action but we can see the interior and exterior.

Mini Rolls Out New “Coop”
To honor its fiftieth anniversary, BMW’s Mini division will show off a new coupe concept for Frankfurt. The concept will be a strict sport model stripped of the two rear seats to support a new slanted roof. Keeping in spec with the John Cooper Works package, the concept has a 1.6 L turbo-four cranking out 211 hp. Check out our complete gallery at our MySpace and Facebook pages.
No Diesel Mini for the States
It’s official: No Mini Cooper D for the US.
BMW’s convinced there isn’t a wide audience for a sub-compact diesel. That’s made clearer with the Mini’s low volume of sales in America. While Minis are made available in the EU with an economy range, the US market is given the more powerful and sporty engines only. The Cooper D boasts a 54 mpg combined rating coming from a turbo-diesel four. Those Prius-beating stats, however, just weren’t enough for BMW brass.
US drivers can enjoy the electric Mini E–if they’re willing to fork over $700 a month.
