<p>30 years after World Rally Championship victory in the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus it’s time to welcome Lotus back to rally with the brother of the newly launched Exige S – the Exige R-GT</p>
<p>What better way to demonstrate Lotus’ superior ride and handling than by re-entering the adrenaline filled Rally Championships? Showcasing the new Exige S’ phenomenal performance, the Exige R-GT will participate in the newly formed FIA GT category of the FIA Rally Championship on asphalt in Monte Carlo, Tour de Corse and San Remo.</p>
<p>For Group Lotus’ Director of Motorsport Claudio Berro the return to rally has an extra special meaning; “My motorsport career started in rally, in fact, I even took part in the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus’ Italian Rally championship winning a race in San Marino back in 1981 so this is a very nostalgic moment for me. As we unveiled the car in Frankfurt, alongside the original championship winning car, I had the chance to get back inside and the smell was exactly the same – it brought back many happy memories for me.</p>
<p>“With the new R-GT rules in rally, it’s a very interesting time for us to return to the sport. Naturally our approach this time around will be different to when we won the championship with Talbot three decades ago but I think our philosophy is definitely the same, we want to compete and ultimately we want to win. Our new rally car, the Exige R-GT is a dream come true for those who are passionate about GT racing – this will be their car.”</p>
<p>The beauty of the Exige R-GT is that although it’s a professionally set up race car, you don’t need to be a pro to drive it – the race car has been developed alongside the road car allowing the technical team to create the perfect race machine, high performance but without losing the sense of fun to drive and ease of use. Developing the race version of the Exige in parallel with the road car has allowed the Lotus technicians to make rapid advances in terms of safety and reliability.</p>
<p>Claudio Berro commented: “We have learnt a great deal from working with the Evora and creating various race derivatives over the past 18 months particularly how best to adapt a road car for the track and competitive racing. We were able to put this learning to good use with the Exige project. In my mind rally is probably the ultimate motorsport, it combines the excitement of track racing with the specialist skills needed for road racing – we really believe it’s one of the best and most straight forward ways to demonstrate the capabilities of our products.”</p>
<p>Powered by the same V6 3.5 litre engine as the new road Exige, significant changes have been made to the gearbox and the restrictors on the engine in order to control the power. Lotus will initially partner with several customer teams following the tried and tested method in which Lotus entered IndyCar and returned to Le Mans.</p></blockquote>

<p>The Evora GTE road car: The most powerful production Lotus road car ever built. Simple.</p>
<p>Producing over 444 PS from the 3.5l V6 Lotus Evora engine, the GTE is, quite simply, the most powerful Lotus road car ever built. Yet contrary to its extreme roots, the Evora GTE road car also delivers a comfortable and refined element to its high performance driving characteristics.</p>
<p>Originally created as a special limited edition for the Asian market and designed to celebrate Lotus’ successful entry to the new global motorsport GTE category, the hand built Evora GTE road car has all the attributes you’d expect of an endurance racer including a sequential AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) racing gearbox and lightweight and forged alloy rims with centre lock hubs shod with Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyres.</p>
<p>Group Lotus can now announce that production will be expanded on the Evora GTE road car to meet demand and reach further markets.</p>
<p>Lotus Lightweight DNA: Clever use of carbon fibre has been integrated extensively throughout the exterior and interior of the car, this is one major contributors to the 105kg weight reduction versus the base Evora. Carbon fibre has been used for all the bodywork modifications including the front and rear bumpers, the rear wing and the doors.</p>
<p>Complimenting the striking exterior is a stunning, modern race-themed interior providing both occupants with the race car thrill without compromising on comfort. Leather and carbon fibre dominate the cabin and lightweight Recaro carbon fibre seats cosset both the passenger and driver giving a sense of security and comfort that mean that any driver of the Evora GTE can really go the distance as they take command of this extraordinary car.</p>
<p>Commenting on the Evora GTE road car, Group Lotus CEO Dany Bahar said: “The response to this model in China has been so incredible, within days we had sold out with 114 orders. In response we decided that the only logical step from a business perspective was to increase production and widen our reach.</p>
<p>“What is unique about this car, is not just that it’s a serious race car – it’s a serious car. People get so excited when they see and especially hear it for the first time. It’s a very special car and will appeal to a very special type of driver – and they won’t be disappointed!”</p>

<p>Raw performance, agility, unparalleled ride and handling and mind blowing drive experience, these attributes are what people have come to expect from Lotus. And we don’t like to disappoint. After months of media speculation Group Lotus is proud to announce the latest addition to the family: the extraordinary new Exige S, the ultimate lightweight high performance sportscar.</p>
<p>Alongside the staggering power to weight ratio, the Exige S has a completely new exterior and interior look and feel. The dramatic styling overhaul sees a completely new look for the Exige including a new front splitter and rear spoiler giving it a strong and aerodynamic profile.</p>
<p>There are two new interior package options available: Premium and Premium Sport. The Premium Pack provides added comfort and style where as the Premium Sport option focuses on creating an internal space optimised for ultimate driver involvement.</p>
<p>Built for the adrenalin hungry sportscar aficionado, the Exige S features high performance bespoke tyre package with Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyres as standard. A Lotus DPM (Dynamic Performance Management) switch allows the driver to switch between three driving modes: Touring, Sport and DPM off.</p>
<p>And if three dynamic settings are not enough, an additional Race Pack option is available which adds a fourth driving mode setting: Race. This setting provides the maximum possible traction out of corners. The Race Pack also features Launch Control and an optimised suspension setting making the car perfect for letting rip on the track.</p>
<p>Commenting on the Exige S, Group Lotus Chief Executive Officer Dany Bahar said: “Anyone who has ever driven an Exige will tell you that it’s not for the faint-hearted. The new Exige S skips a few rungs on the ladder to give the driver the ultimate Lotus experience. Quite simply you can’t get more Lotus than the Exige S.”</p>

<p>The Lotus Elise revolutionised the sportscar market 14 years ago when the small lightweight agile 2-seat mid engine sportscar was introduced. By ensuring that the Elise stuck rigidly to Lotus’ core values of performance through light weight, the Elise was able to produce supercar performance with city car economy.</p>
<p>Making its debut at the 80th International Geneva Motorshow, the 2011 model year Lotus Elise introduces a number of changes and improvements to maintain its class leading position.</p>
<p>For the 2011 model year, the Elise range will consist of the following variants:</p>
<p>    • Lotus Elise – 136 PS, less than 155 g of CO2 /km – new 1.6 litre engine *<br />
    • Lotus Elise R &#8211; 192 PS, 196 g of CO2 /km &#8211; 1.8 litre engine<br />
    • Lotus Elise SC – 220 PS, 199 g of CO2 /km &#8211; 1.8 litre supercharged engine</p>
<p>Key changes and improvements to the whole of the 2011 model year Elise range</p>
<p>    • New evolution body design incorporating new front clamshell, rear bumper and engine cover<br />
    • New all in one integrated headlights including LED day light running lights and LED direction indicators<br />
    • Improved aerodynamics with a reduction in Cd by 4%, resulting in better fuel economy<br />
    • New cast and forged wheels<br />
    • Vehicle warranty increased from 2 years to 3 years and 36, 000 miles</p>
<p>Additional changes for the 2011 model year entry level Lotus Elise</p>
<p>    • New high technology 1ZR-FAE 1.6 litre engine with Valvematic and Dual VVT-I technology to optimise the performance and efficiency of the engine<br />
    • Less than 155 g of CO2 per km (an improvement of over 13% compared to the 2010 Elise S)*<br />
    • Combined fuel consumption 6.14 litres / 100 km (46 mpg)*<br />
    • New 6 speed close ratio gearbox<br />
    • Cruise control available as part of the Touring pack

<p>With class leading driving dynamics, fuel economy and emissions of just 199 g/km of CO2, the new Lotus Evora raises the bar for world class high performing sportscars.</p>
<p>The first all-new Lotus since the iconic Elise roadster made its debut in 1995, the Evora entered the sports car market as the world’s only production mid-engined 2+2. The Evora provides a tremendously rewarding driving experience: the mid-engined layout gives exceptional agility and the Lotus engineered suspension ensures incredible ride and handling.</p>
<p>Powered by a Lotus-tuned 3.5-litre V6 engine producing 280PS/ 206 kW / 276 hp @ 6400 rpm, and weighing just 1382 kg, the Evora delivers an exhilarating experience true to the Lotus DNA characteristics.</p>
<p>With the zero to 60 mph sprint taking just 4.9 seconds (100 km/h in just 5.1seconds) a top speed of 162 mph (261 km/h) and an Official European Combined Cycle fuel economy just 33.2 mpg (8.5 litres / 100 km) and emissions of just 199 g/km CO2 the Evora stays true to the ethos of performance through light weight. The other economy figures are equally impressive with Official European Urban Cycle of 23.4 mpg (12.1 litres / 100 km) and 44.8 mpg (6.3 litres / 100 km) for the Official European Extra<br />
Urban Cycle all combined with exceptional ride and handling.</p>
<p>Because one of the roles of the Evora is to attract new customers, as well as performance aficionado’s to the Lotus brand, the Evora offers a more refined ownership experience than Lotus’ existing smaller four cylinder models. Its elegantly styled cabin is beautifully trimmed and its equipment list includes contemporary features such as an advanced touchscreen multi-media system and electric power-fold door mirrors. Careful attention has also been paid to its ease of use; with wider, taller door apertures,<br />
narrower sills and higher seating position making getting in and out of the cabin a less athletic undertaking than it is in Lotus’ smaller sports cars (Elise, Exige, Europa and 2-Eleven), whilst the design of the cabin itself will accommodate two 99th percentile (6ft 5in / 196 cm tall) American males in the front seats.</p>
<p>The ‘convenience factor’ of the Evora extends to all areas of the car. For instance, beneath the skin the entire front-end structure is a high tech aluminium “sacrificial” modular unit, with bolt on attachment to the main extruded aluminium tub. This modular unit is not only designed to deform<br />
for maximum safety, and to make the production assembly process more efficient, but also to reduce repair costs in the event of a frontal impact.</p>
<p>The Evora has been designed with global automotive regulations in mind, and future derivatives are planned.</p>
<p>The Evora is hand crafted and built on a dedicated new assembly line within Lotus’ advanced manufacturing facility at Hethel in the East of England; capacity limitations restrict production to approximately 2000 cars a year, thus ensuring this dynamic new sports car’s rarity and exclusivity.</p>

<p>Lotus&#8217;s race-spec Evora keeps Colin Chapman&#8217;s dream alive with a light 2,600 lb. curb weight and a boosted mid-mounted 395 hp Toyota 3.0 L V-6.  The 124 will mark the beginning of a new era in Lotus endurance racing.</p>

<p>This week in LA, veteran Lotus development engineer Roger Becker told the assembled press about the changes we&#8217;ll see in the Elise and Exige for 2008. He also talked a bit about some of the changes happening at the factory and even gave us some info about new models in the company&#8217;s future.</p>
<p>The biggest recent news for Lotus was that the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/23/lotus-powers-up-elise-exige-for-2008/">Elise SC and Exige S</a> were given an optional power boost via a Magnuson-developed supercharger that raises horsepower from 190 to 218 or 240 depending on the application. Other changes were made to all 2008 model year cars in the lineup.</p>
<p>Aside from upgraded brakes and a few other tweaks, the biggest changes came inside, where a new security system has been installed that for the first time ever allows a single key for Lotus owners. As a nod to American driving habits, TPMS and a new information display were also added, because as Becker put it, we aren&#8217;t too aware of when a tire is going down and need to have it pointed out. That line was delivered without missing a beat and expertly showed a typically dry British sense of humor. Funny guy.
