Jaguar XJC: Rendered Speculation
Normally, I don’t like to put out spy shots (to management’s displeasure) or speculated renderings, but I love Leftlane’s work in the field. Here’s the site’s rendering of the Jaguar XJC, rumored to be previewed as soon as the winter. This is a car a little dear to me, as my first Jag experience was in an old XJ saloon. (How I wish it was a ’70s V-12 coupe…)
The XJC makes for a practical business move since just about every serious upscale marque is making a luxury coupe–BMW, Mercedes, Cadillac, Hyundai’s Genesis, Audi, and so on. Jaguar has mounted a big comeback in the playing field, so we here at CarVersation expect this grand tourer to be a real contender in the field.
Jaguar and Land Rover Bleed; Bridge Loan Coming
Looks like Jaguar and Land Rover can’t get a break. The two sibling brands haven’t even been under Tata’s control for two years, and yet they have a shared loss of $1.1 billion. The recession has taken a big toll of Jag and Rover sales, though you can expect to see an uptick for the former with the new XJ. In order to prevent another flow of unemployed, the UK treasury is pushing a heavy bridge loan to keep the operations stable.
Top Gear’s Clash of the Titans: Jaguar XFR vs. BMW M5
It was bound to happen.
The Top Gear gang has put BMW’s M5, perhaps the class-leader, up against the UK’s newcomer, the Jaguar XFR. Both are medium-sized luxury-sport saloons vying for the same upscale audience.
Before checking out the clip, let’s look over the specs of the two contenders.
The rear-drive 4,010 lb. M5 is equipped with a 5.0 L V-10 engine, which puts out 383 ft.-lbs. of torque at 6,100 rpm–and 500 hp at 7,800. The engine is attached to an automated-manual gearbox, helping to reach sixty in 4.8 sec. The M5 is priced at a steep $86,000; with that, you get a finely built and surprisingly agile sedan matched only by a few.
The XFR is more conventional in its armament. The Jag has a supercharged 4.2 L V-8 and a 6-spd. automatic transmission. Not only is the 4.2 more powerful than the M5’s V-10, generating 510 hp, but it reaches its peak at just 6,100 rpm. The torque figure is more dramatic: 461 ft.-lbs. at 5,500 rpm. The Jag does have its drawbacks: yes, it is more powerful (and cheaper at $79,000), but it’s also larger (4 in. longer) and heavier by 300 lbs. You do have the extra plus that it delivers a combined rating of 17 mpg over the M5’s 13.
So how did this comparo turn out? See for yourself.
X-type Goes X-tinct
Jaguar’s long-struggling X-type will finally die out. The X-type was loathed by critics as a shoddy effort to expand the Jag collection and fight off the BMW 3 series. The X-type was first produced in ‘01, but its sales never took off. The recent recession has killed off any interest in the compact saloon, or a successor. The retirement will coincide with the temporary layoff of three hundred employees.
An In-Depth Look at Jaguar’s Brand New XJ
Here it is–Jag’s new XJ saloon in full detail (and without watermarks).
The 2010 XJ is a completely redesigned large-class luxury sedan. The XJ name has been in service for the famed British marque since the Swinging Sixties, but kept to the same visual formula throughout its lifespan. The ‘10 represents the third part of a entirely new design theme, seen first with the XK grand tourer and then with the XF medium-class sedan.
We Bring You the New Jag XJ
I want you all to know that we here at CarVersation (meaning me) have undertaken great risk in presenting you these images of the new 2010 Jaguar XJ sedan.
The XJ will be Jag’s large-size saloon, targeting the Mercedes S-class and Lexus LS series. Jag stylists followed my advice, being that I am influential, and kept the exterior design more along the lines of the aggressive C-XF concept. The XJ uses a new aluminum body for weight reduction and added structural rigidity. Two engines have been mentioned as equipment: a 3.0 L twin-turbo diesel six and a 5.0 L naturally aspirated petrol eight.

Jaguar’s XK Goodwood Special Offers Added Sportiness with Taurus Looks
To honor the UK’s Goodwood Festival, Jaguar’s produced a new one-off special of its XK coupe. The Goodwood Special is painted in bright lime green with orange and silver labeling to stand out from the pack. Its suspension has been lowered, 21″ rims have been added, and a modified exhaust has been hooked up for a more masculine sound. The supercharged 5.0 V-8 has been tuned to produce up to 530 hp and a 0-60 time of less than four and a half seconds. Nothing has been announced of Jaguar making the Goodwood available to the public.
Jag’s XF Now Comes Out in “Intermediate” SC’d Form
Jaguar is putting out an intermediate model of its XF saloon, slotted between the base model and the “R.” Under the hood is a supercharged AJ18, Mk. III, 5.0 L V-8 engine, making up to 470 hp. Electronic handling assistance and rear-differential control are standard, brakes have been upgraded, oak accents have been added to the interior, and a 440 wt. Bowers stereo rounds off the package. Pricing comes in at $68,000.
Arden Brings New Life to an Old XK: The “AJ18″ A-type
The German tunger group Arden has resurrected a ten-year-old project involving the previous Jaguar XK8. The Arden “AJ18″ A-type was a stripped-down, beefed-up version of the beautiful Jaguar V-8 grand tourer, first shown in 1999. Only thirteen examples were built, but Arden will be adding five more units to the roster. The A-type’s actual features include a body composed of carbon composites (bringing weight down to 3,500 lbs.), heavy-duty six-piston vented discs, thick race tires, and a bare-bones cabin. Jaguar may never have pushed the previous XK8 to its fullest, but at least there’s one tuner still willing to do so.
New Jaguar XJ Teaser Video
Here’s a new official clip previewing the Jaguar XJ sedan. The video briefly covers the light aluminum body, which both recyclable and reduces fuel consumption. The XF’s styling may be a toss-up in taste, but it is an outstanding luxury saloon. Expect the XJ to be a further step ahead.
