(from Infiniti Press Release) 2013 IPL G Convertible Joins Infiniti Performance Line Portfolio with Dramatic Styling, Tuned 3.7-liter V6

The 2013 IPL G Convertible Infiniti, which is set to go on sale in spring 2012, becomes the second member of the Infiniti Performance Line of premium performance vehicles. First introduced with the dramatic IPL G Coupe, IPL’s product design philosophy focuses on “total vehicle performance,” including unique driving attributes and exclusive exterior and interior features at a highly attractive price point. The new IPL G Convertible features special aerodynamic styling pieces, the dynamic performance of an IPL-tuned V6, exhaust and suspension, 19-inch IPL aluminum-alloy wheels, and unique leather-appointed interior – along with the G Convertible’s three-piece retractable hardtop.

“The Infiniti Performance Line, as demonstrated by our first offering, the IPL G Coupe, challenges the concept of ultra-high cost sports series. IPL pushes the premium performance envelope for buyers seeking a higher level of exclusivity and driving exhilaration, but does so with an Infiniti twist,” said Infiniti Americas Vice President Ben Poore. “Like every Infiniti, the new IPL G Convertible takes a different path from its established competitors, with its retractable hardtop that is designed to look as good with the top up as down. It’s a terrific addition to the Infiniti Performance Line, taking the dramatic Infiniti G Convertible to an even higher level.”

Based on the premium foundation of the Infiniti G37 Convertible, the IPL G Convertible features an advanced VQ37VHR 3.7-liter V6. The engine management system has been recalibrated through air-fuel mixture and ignition timing optimization, raising the maximum horsepower output point to 7,400 rpm. To obtain a natural acceleration feel, the torque curve from low revs to the maximum torque point (5,200 rpm) was tuned for linearity. The IPL-tuned high-flow exhaust is a full dual exhaust design with independent left and right large diameter pipes. The muffler’s inner structure and materials have been maximized to reduce pressure and provide an appropriate performance exhaust note. The result is a 30% reduction in exhaust pressure versus a base G Convertible’s Y-pipe exhaust system design.

As a result of both the exhaust system and engine management changes, the IPL G Convertible generates 343 horsepower – an increase of 18 horsepower over the non-IPL models – and 273lb-ft of torque (+6 lb-ft).

The engine is matched to an electronically controlled 7-speed automatic transmission with Downshift Rev Matching and quick-shift Drive Sport (DS) mode with magnesium paddle shifters and Adaptive Shift Control (ASC).

The IPL G Convertible’s enhanced dynamic vehicle performance focuses on providing confident handling, flat ride and smooth ride comfort. The IPL suspension tuning and damping management philosophy is designed to optimize each aspect of the suspension, effectively connecting the driver to the road surface while minimizing uncomfortable vibrations. Front spring rates have been increase 14% over the G Convertible Sport model and rear spring rates increased 4%. Front stabilizer spring rates have been increased 6% over the G Convertible Sport model and rear stabilizer spring rates increased 125%. Shock tuning has also been adjusted and incorporates an all-new HF-type shock.

The IPL G Convertible also offers a sport-tuned steering gear and large 4-wheel sport brakes (14-inch front, 13.8-inch rear) with aluminum-alloy opposed calipers (4-piston front/2-piston rear).

The IPL G Convertible’s unique exterior includes a dramatic front bumper/fascia design with integrated fog lights and black finishers, sculpted side sills and round chrome exhaust tips. Each part is shaped to complement the G Convertible’s elegantly seductive styling. Combined with the exclusive 19-inch IPL split 7-spoke graphite-finish wheels and low-profile W-rated Bridgestone Potenza RE050A performance tires, the IPL G Convertible embraces a road-ready attitude. The IPL G Convertible is offered in just two exterior colors: Moonlight White and Malbec Black.

The IPL G Convertible interior harmonizes with the exterior styling, offering two color treatments – Stone and IPL-exclusive Monaco Red. All IPL G Convertible interiors include red-stitched leather-appointed Climate-controlled front sport seats with embroidered IPL logos, manual thigh extension and driver’s power torso and thigh support adjustment, red-stitched steering wheel, Silk Obi aluminum trim, IPL embroidered front floor mats, and aluminum trimmed pedals and footrest.

Other standard IPL G Convertible interior features includes a 13-speaker Bose® Open Air Sound System, optimized for both top positions, with AudioPilot® 2.0 noise compensation technology and Personal® front seat headrest speakers, an Adaptive Dual Zone Climate Control that automatically adjusts fan speed and air volume based on top position, and Advanced Climate Control System (ACCS) with Plasmacluster® air purifier, Infiniti Navigation System with voice recognition and available XM NavTraffic® Real-Time Traffic Information, NavWeather™ with Real-Time Weather and 3-day forecast (XM® subscription required, sold separately), Streaming Audio via Bluetooth® and Zagat Survey® Restaurant Guide and touch screen, and Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System.

Technological and convenience features include standard Infiniti Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition, Remote Keyless Entry system, a power tilt/telescoping steering column with increased travel, illuminated glove compartment and automatic temperature control. Also standard is XM® Satellite Radio (XM® subscription required, sold separately) and Rear Sonar System.

An Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt sensors and occupant classification sensor is standard, along with door-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental air bags, front-seat mounted side-impact supplemental air bags and front seat Active Head Restraints. The rear seat includes fixed head rests with rear Pop-up Roll Bars. The G Convertible also features reinforced front side members, front pillars and body sills.

“With it’s pure IPL style and performance, and the added dimension of open-air motoring, the IPL G Convertible is a welcome addition to the Infiniti Performance Line lineup,’” added Poore. “Watch for more models joining the IPL lineup in the future.”

The 2013 IPL G Coupe is offered in one fully equipped model, the IPL G Convertible with 7-speed automatic transmission. There are no options.

(from Infiniti Press Release) 2012 Infiniti M Hybrid Debuts at L.A. Auto Show – Only Vehicle to Offer More Than 350 Horsepower and 30 MPG

– Infiniti’s First Hybrid Sedan Delivers V8 Power and 4-Cylinder Fuel Economy,
Set to Go On Sale At Infiniti Retailers Nationwide in Spring 2011 –

Infiniti today unveiled its first production hybrid performance luxury sedan, the all-new 2012 Infiniti M35h, during a press conference at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The new Infiniti Hybrid, which is set to launch at Infiniti retailers nationwide in spring 2011, stands to break new ground as the first true luxury performance “driver’s” hybrid – and the only vehicle to offer more than 350 horsepower and 30 miles per gallon fuel economy (estimated Highway mpg, official EPA figures not available at press time).

Speaking at the North American unveiling, Infiniti Vice President Ben Poore stated, “Simply put, the Infiniti M Hybrid will be the most advanced performance luxury sedan hybrid in the market, delivering V8 power and 4-cylinder fuel efficiency.”

The 2012 Infiniti M Hybrid will be on display at the Los Angeles Convention Center, along with the complete line of 2011 Infiniti vehicles, from Friday, Nov. 19th through Sunday, Nov. 28th.

The Infiniti M35h features the all-new Infiniti Direct Response Hybrid™ system, an advanced one-motor, two-clutch parallel hybrid design that combines precise, high-speed motor control technology, which, enabled by the powerful Lithium-ion battery, allows power to be delivered directly to the vehicle’s 7-speed automatic transmission. The system also utilizes an innovative Hybrid Electric Power Steering system and Electric Driven Intelligent Brake regenerative braking system, both which help conserve energy and provide a natural, enjoyable driving feel.

The Infiniti M Hybrid’s exhilarating driving performance also greatly benefits from use of Infiniti’s proven 3.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V6 engine, which paired with the 50 kW electric motor, provides a hybrid system net power of 360 horsepower.

Torque figures are equally impressive, with the V6’s 258 lb-ft of toque combining with the electric motor’s immediately available 199 lb-ft of torque to provide strong performance. The result is a vehicle that first and foremost delivers a refined driving experience, along with expected best-in-class Combined fuel economy (estimated fuel economy 30 mpg Highway, 25 mpg City and 27 mpg Combined).

In addition, the new Infiniti M35h can drive on electric power alone at speeds up to 62 mph and can travel on electric propulsion for up to 1.2 miles at a time. Tests have shown that in mixed diving, the Infiniti M35h is able to drive in electric only mode for as much as 50% of the time. And, with its compact hybrid system design, the new Infiniti M35h also delivers uncompromised interior space and competitive trunk space.

The M35h also embraces the essence of all things Infiniti – style, performance, luxury, craftsmanship and technology. The Infiniti M’s dramatic, sports styling is matched with a roomy, comfortable interior environment featuring standard leather-appointed seating, Japanese Ash wood trim or available silver powdered genuine White Ash wood trim, and available premium audio and climate control systems.

Standard M35h features include Active Noise Control, Infiniti Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition, XM® Satellite Radio (XM® subscription required, sold separately), Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System and power sliding glass tinted moonroof. The Infiniti M Hybrid is also available with advanced technology features, including Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Blind Spot Intervention™ (BSI), Forest Air® system, Active Trace Control, and Infiniti Hard Drive Navigation System.

Also at the auto show, Infiniti was named by the Automotive Lease Guide as the “Best Luxury Brand” in their 12th annual ALG Residual Value Awards for having the best resale value of any luxury brand in America. The 2011 Infiniti QX56 was named “Best Luxury Fullsize Utility” vehicle.

“Within the last year, we’ve completely redesigned or enhanced 80% of our line-up. Since launch, the all-new 2011 Infiniti M and Infiniti QX are experiencing tremendous sales growth, with increases of more than 100% and nearly 200% respectively,” Poore added. “It’s an exciting time for Infiniti.”

Infiniti has finally decided to join the performance competition with the introduction of the Infiniti Performance Line (IPL). The first vehicle to demonstrate Infiniti’s performance will be the IPL G Coupe. Like most factory performance offerings, Infiniti will build these cars with an emphasis on style, performance, and OEM-level fit and finish. Additions include new front and rear fascias, side sills, rear spoiler, and 19-inch seven-spole graphite wheels.

What’s even more important is what has been done under the hood. Infiniti has added a nre high-flow exhaust and recalibrated EDU to increase output to 348 horsepower and 276 pound-feet of torque. Behind the powerplant lies a siz-speed manual with a short throw shifter, a limited spli differential, and Bridgestone Potenza RE50A tires to connect this performance to the ground. Of course a retuned performance suspension is also included, increasing spring rates by 20% in the front and 10% in the back.

Infiniti has not released pricing for the IPL G Coupe yet but considering the price of the standard G37 along with these performance components, we are hoping the price isn’t excessively high. We were also hoping for a little more “go” that is expected from a luxury performance line that will compete with BMW’s M division or Mercedes’ AMG line. PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (Aug. 12, 2010) – Infiniti today announced its rumored specialty-performance vehicle collection, the Infiniti Performance Line™. The first production vehicle from this group, the 348-horsepower 2011 Infiniti Performance Line G Coupe, debuts tomorrow evening at an exclusive event at the 60th annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. It joins the Infiniti line of performance luxury vehicles at Infiniti retailers nationwide in December.

The Infiniti Performance Line, or IPL, offers a new level of premium performance for Infiniti vehicles, focusing not just on engine power and acceleration, but also on redefining total vehicle performance. IPL promises unique driving attributes with exclusive designs, different from other Infiniti models in each selected Infiniti line. The 2011 IPL G Coupe is the first of what is expected to be a range of IPL performance vehicles in the future.

Infiniti Performance Line vehicles are targeted at buyers seeking performance luxury vehicles that express a greater degree of individual style. The limited production IPL vehicles begin with Infiniti’s legendary emotional design and Japanese craftsmanship – and then heighten the luxury and performance levels through modifications to the exterior, interior, engine tuning and suspension.

“When you drive the IPL G Coupe, the first thing you notice is the surge in sound and acceleration feel. The inspiring swell of sound is in complete harmony with the acceleration feel as engine speed increases,” said Poore. “The sound is clean and inspiring, adding to the fun-to-drive sensation provided by the 348 horsepower under the hood.”

Equally inspiring is the IPL G Coupe’s dynamic vehicle performance, which focuses on providing confident handling, flat ride and smooth ride comfort. The IPL suspension tuning and damping management philosophy is designed to optimize each aspect of the suspension, effectively connecting the driver to the road surface while removing uncomfortable vibrations. Front spring rates have been increased 20% over the base G Coupe and rear spring rates increased 10%. Shock tuning has also been adjusted to reach a new premium performance standard.

The IPL G Coupe also offers a sport-tuned steering gear and large 4-wheel sport brakes with aluminum-alloy opposed calipers (4-piston front/2-piston rear) and Viscous Limited-Slip Differential (VLSD).

The Essence may be where Infiniti finds its niche: the superb ’09 concept embraced beautiful sculpting with progressive technology.  Whereas most concepts go to bizarre places, the Essence makes sense for the future of upscale motoring.  The power behind this rear-drive wonder is a gas-electric V-6, souped to pump out 590+ hp.  The passenger compartment is beautifully adorned with two-tone leather, a digital driver display, and a shaded panorama roof.  We don’t know how far this’ll go yet, but we’re praying it becomes a reality.

The redesigned Infiniti M aims to pierce the BMW 5′s heart once and for all.  The new exterior features a curvier look seen with the G37 and Maxima.  The interior has been fully upgraded with wood accents, leather-wrapping, improved stereo, and a revised driver OS.  The base M37 will employ a 330 hp 3.7 L V-6 found in the G37; the higher-level M56 will use a 420 hp 5.6 L V-8.  A gas-electric 3.5 L six will be released for 2012.

Nissan’s Infiniti luxury division spent months hyping its 2011 “M” sedan by releasing teaser images, bit by bit.  In what’s become an unwanted trend, the product behind all the hype has failed to live up to the wild expectations it’s created.

The ’11 M appears more as a facelift to the existing sedan, rather than an all-new showpiece.  The ’11 M will be an improvement over what is already a fine, but rather ignored, luxury sedan; powertrains will be a base 3.7 L V-6 or an optional 400 hp 5.6 V-8.  Pricing is unknown.
