I present to you Aston’s official gallery of the production Rapide, its long-awaited sedan.  Let’s get this out of the way: it looks like a stretched DB9 with two more doors.  We’ve tired of the DB7-themed design from Aston, though we can’t deny the handsome charm of it.  The Rapide is equipped with a 470 hp 6.0 L V-12 and is expected to demand $240,000 to $260,000.  No, it’s nothing radical, but a hell of a lot easier on the eyes than the dreadful Panamera.

Honestly, we couldn’t give a damn about this tuner Aston.  MW Design has installed a two-tone interior, exclusve rims, and beefed up the underpowered V-8 to deliver an impressive 480+ hp.  But the only thing we took notice of was the model.

Aston Martin’s Lagonda Put on Indefinite Hold

Looks like Aston’s going to avoid the Porsche path and not release an SUV.  The Lagonda concept premiered in Geneva earlier this year to poor reviews.  Add to that the hard downturn in company revenue and you have a formula prevent “branching out.”  Aston CEO Ulrich Bez confirmed the Lagonda plan was on an indefinite hold, with insufficient funds and interest in building the sport-ute.

Rizk Recreates Aston Martin’s DBR2

Phoenix-based Rizk Auto has brought us a forgotten item in the Aston Martin catalog: the short-lived DBR2.  The DBR2 was a Le Mans-class race car released in 1957.  But due to various regulations over engine capacity, the DBR2 was cast out of major competition.  Its chance at glory came with the ‘57 Le Mans, but the car couldn’t muster the full twenty-four hours.  It puttered along until 1960, when it was retired and sold to private collectors.

Rizk has resolved those old problems by making its version the perfect balance of Space Age design with ’50s cool.  The featherweight aluminum chassis is linked to a composite body, both lined with heat-resistant shuttle-craft coating.  The curb weight for the car is just 2,100 lbs.  Buyers can opt for old-school equipment, with a carbureted Jaguar inline-six or V-12 mated to a 5-spd. manual, or go modern with a fuel-injected Chevrolet 6.2 L V-8 with a 6-spd. auto or manual.

Full Gallery for Aston’s Hot New DBS Volante

Aston’s put out its official gallery for the DBS drop-top, the Volante.  Just to remind some of you who are ignorant, the DBS is Aston Martin’s intense alternative to the DB9.  The Volante loses only 25% of the structural rigidity of the coupe.  That’s thanks to strengthened panels–some of which are made up of carbon fiber for a cut in weight.  The Volante still weighs in at a hefty two tons.  Don’t worry too much about that though: the 6.0 L V-12 remains intact with its 510 hp.  The engine’s linked to a 6-spd. manual-shift or a Touchtronic automatic gearbox for the lazy.  Onboard monitors tame the cabrio’s natural body roll.  Don’t worry about noise either: a thirteen-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo system is standard.

Aston Martin brought its One-77 supercar to Italy’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.  The car was a show-stopper, even among the avant-garde audience in attendance.  With just seventy-seven examples to be built, the One-77 is the fastest and most exclusve street car the UK concern has ever created.  Engineers modified the standard 6.0 L V-12 engine available in the DB9 and Vanquish.  Displacement has increased to 7.3 L, but total mass has been reduced by 25%; that’s in edition to an overall slim weight figure at 3,300 lbs.  Horsepower peaks at the 700 mark and top speed is said to pass 200 mph.  A six-speed paddle-shift gearbox is mated to the Aston/Cosworth engine, and helps to kick the car to sixty in three and a half seconds.  Final pricing is unknown, but will be in the seven-figure range.
