Mercedes-Benz reveals 2011 S63 AMG with twin-turbo 5.5L V8

Engine downsizing seems to be the new trend in today’s auto market, and Mercedes-Benz is no outcast. The new 2011 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG will carry their new twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8. Although size has decreased, efficiency has overpowered this reduction. The new direct-injected V8 increases power from 518 horsepower to 571 along with generating 663 pound-feet of torque between 2,250 and 3,750 rpm. In terms of track time, the SL63 will make it from 0-62 mph in just 4.5 seconds with the basic trim or 4.4 seconds if you choose the AMG sports package.

The 2011 S63 has adopted the multi-clutch unit from the SL63 and dumped the previous torque converter automatic transmission. As you would expect from a turbocharged engine, fuel efficiency has increased from the past model from 16.3 miles per gallon to 22.4 mpg on the EU test cycle. We are still waiting to hear the official EPA numbers.
