The Ten Best Concepts of the Decade #4: Shelby Cobra

Part of the short-lived Ford Revival, the Cobra continued a retro theme Dearborn initiated late in the Nineties. The Cobra was to borrow from the ever-loved Ford GT, using a shortened chassis and adapted suspension. Under the hood was a 600+ hp 6.4 L V10 mated to a 6-spd. gated-shift. The roadster could pass 180 mph, while reaching sixty at around four seconds. The Cobra was to be slotted above the Ford Mustang and below the Shelby GR1 (the Ford GT’s planned replacement). In the end, neither the Cobra nor the GR1 ever got off the ground. Ford’s sliding fortunes killed any such projects in favor of greener pastures. 1969 Mustang
