Pontiac’s G8 to Live on, Camaro Z28 Canned

GM vice-chair, Robert Lutz, has brought us both good news and bad news.

The good outweighs the bad: Pontiac’s awesome G8 sedan will indeed live on as a Chevrolet.  The G8, itself a rebadged Holden from down under, will apparently become the Chevrolet Caprice.  The choice of Caprice as the new name isn’t as appealing as Impala or Chevelle, but we’re just glad the best American four-door in years will live on.

The bad news is that the planned new high-end Camaro, designated by the press as the “Z28″ or “ZL1,” has been dropped.  The idea of a supercharged 500+ hp sport coupe just isn’t politically correct in an Al Gore world.
