What Happens When You Supercharge a Scuderia?
German tuner Novitec has released the latest custom Ferrari, the Scuderia Spider 16M. Cosmetic changes over the standard Ferrari F430 are minor–a carbon composite theme inside the cabin, blacked-out tail lamps, and 20″ wheels… The real shocker comes from within the powertrain compartment. Engineers have installed not one, but two superchargers. Power peaks at 696 hp at 8,400 rpm; torque comes in at 503 ft.-lbs. Those outstanding numbers come to a 44% rise in horsepower and a 47% hike in torque.
If only Novitec could to the same with Aprilia’s underpowered RS125 sport bike, I could live happily.
A Closer Look at the Gallardo Spyder LP560-4
The Lamborghini Gallardo has become a very popular item among the wealthy exotic car crowd since its 2004 inception. Beyond the fact that it’s less expensive than its larger sibling, the Murcielago, the Gallardo’s smaller dimensions and lighter body have garnered it preference from the Sant’Agata collection. Even with that, Lamborghini has tried to keep the Gallardo fresh with improvements and specials.

If you missed last night’s Top Gear, you missed a hell of a show. The main part of the episode was the Bugatti Veyron racing the Mclaren F1. I don’t want to ruin anything, just watch the video and enjoy. So Bugatti or Mclaren?

Jag’s XF Now Comes Out in “Intermediate” SC’d Form

Video: A British Take on the SRT-8
Here’s a Fifth Gear video review of the Dodge Challenger SRT-8. As you’d probably expect, there’s a mix of emotion. On one hand, the handling, thirstiness, weight, cabin materials, and cornering ability are put down; on the other, the Challenger’s rough edge and Hemi power give it just enough character to win over a favorable impression.
The Challenger is officially unavailable to UK drivers; only special importers have access. Expect willing UK drivers to pay a high premium too. Flat-out, the SRT-8 should retail around £24,000–which is a fairly good price. It’s mentioned the import duties and tax would hike that price tag to about £40,000, or almost double what the cost is here in the States.
So much for the bargain.
Video: Fifth Gear’s Nissan 370Z Review
Britain’s Fifth Gear has taken the Nissan 370Z out for a spin, and come away pleased. The new Z, as expected, is praised for its “refinement”: the car’s grounded, accelerates with more confidence, and handles the corners with more ease. The only gripe to come up with the new Z is the car’s more predictable nature–it’s grown up, as they say.
Video: Fifth Gear Goes Topless in California
Here’s another video review from the gang at Fifth Gear. We all wish the topless theme of the car in question, Ferrari’s California Spider, would have stretched to reviewer Vicky Henderson–oh well. The California is highlighted for its easy manner, discipline, comfort, and real performance. Yours truly had the benefit of seeing this car in its Euro preview form, and was blessed to experience its qualities up close. One little note: the California Spider is not the first hardtop convertible Ferrari. The first was (that comes to mind) the 575M Superamerica.
Specter’s Corvette GTR: Instilling Terror in a Porsche Near You
Specter Werks’s C6 GTR is just flashy enough to win us over at CarVersation. While its appearance may echo polished aluminum, the body is made up in large part of light composites. The aesthetics have been altered with a new splitter and rear-diffuser, 19″ alloys up front and 20″ out back, and a vented hood. The Chevy LS3 V-8 has its displacement raised from 6.2 L to 6.8, pushing up horsepower to 615 and torque to 578 ft.-lbs.
