Shelby's Daytona is Stayin' Alive with 530 hp

Exotic Auto Restorations of Costa Mesa has released its own take on the SuPerformance Daytona Coupe.  As you may (or may not) know, the SuPerformance coupe was designed by Peter Brock–the same Peter Brock who designed the original Shelby Daytona of the 1960s.  The original Daytona terrorized Ferrari in European GT racing, leading to a Shelby victory in 1965.  Only six Daytonas were built, but that hasn’t stopped people’s passion for making more.

Exotic’s “Le Mans Edition” commemmorates the original Daytona’s heritage.  New heavy-duty Bilstein shocks and H&R springs prop the car up, with its equally heavy-duty roster of engines.  Choices are open, but the Exotic gang stuffed a 530 hp Roush 402R V-8 for their display car.  A Tremec T56 six-speed manual gearbox is hooked up, offering a durable and quick-shifting transmission.  On the aesthetic front, new fender flairs accompany the form, along with hood louvers, 18″ wheels, and added vents.  The interior is spartan, with Alcantera seats, an aluminum dash, toggle switches, and a Momo race wheel.

A track special will also be available.  Keeping with tradition, only six will be offered.  The race-ready coupes will have a six-point rollcage, 14″ disc brakes up front, 13″ brakes out back, stripped interior, A/C deletion, and boosted motor chugging out 560 hp with a Tremec TKO-600 transmission to handle the added stress.

Good to see tradition is still alive.
