So we’re going to have car companies needing their average fleet mileage to be over 35 mpg by 2016.  That’ll mean less weight, cleaner tailpipes, and higher costs.  Funny, I see the same thing happening at my local massage parlor.  Who’d think?

Since then, the Camaro has evolved with the times–during the good and the bad. It has still continued to have a diehard legion of fans who appreciate its blend of affordable fun and middle-class charm.

Word floating around the online rumor mill is that carmaker Koenigsegg is the top-bidder so far for Saab.  The Saab firm is still under GM ownership, but the ailing auto giant has been searching for a willing buyer for more than a year.  The Saab brand has never been able to catch on in North America, in spite of a “Born from Jets” ad campaign and the dubious honor of being the “gayest” car brand in America.

GM tried to inject some life into Saab with the likes of the 9-3 Turbo-X sedan and Aero-X concept; yet neither produced results on the long end.  Koenigsegg’s acquisition would not only make Saab a Swede brand once more, it would also mean the chance for a sportier product line more in-step with the likes of Audi and BMW.  Koenigsegg currently builds the CCX, a supercar which reps claim can outperform the Bugatti Veyron–though this has not been verified.

Maybe that Aero-X will become a reality.free how to lose friends alienate people

Here’s a video of Car magazine’s Chris Chilton reviewing Bugatti’s Veyron targa-top, the Grand Sport.  Like the standard Veyron, the Grand Sport comes equipped with a quad-turbo 987 hp V-16.  Topless, the Grand Sport is restricted to a top speed of 217 mph; top-on, the 253 mph high-mark is still achievable.  The styling is in debate, but the speed isn’t.

Video: Pagani Zonda F Goes All Out, Top Off

It’s a shame that Pagani is an unknown on this side of the Atlantic.  The private Italian firm’s Zonda supercar is the modern equivalent to Lamborghini’s stunning Miura of long ago.  With the Zonda F, Pagani engineers pushed their flagship to a 215 mph top speed, thanks to an improved power-to-weight ratio and added aero vents.  The F cabrio has since come out, offering break-neck speed with open-air zest.  It’ll surprise you to know weight gain has been kept to a minimum: the Roadster tips the scales at only 2,700 lbs.  That’s less than the “bare” Gallardo Superleggera and the Ferrari 430 Scuderia.

Nowadays, every car company with a hot exotic wants to be in Nürburgring.  It seems like Lexus’s LF-A has been spending more time in the German race capital than in either the US or Japan.  Lexus wanted its new sports car to set Nürburgring ablaze–and it got its wish.  One of two LF-As competing in a day-long endurance race caught fire.  Hell, you can’t beat publicity like that.no silence download mp3 warbirds online

Just a week after we covered the -330, Mitsubishi unveiled its top-of-the-line Lancer Evolution FQ-400.  Engineers went to work upgrading the 2.0 L inline-four’s intercooler, installing high-flow injectors, reprogramming the ECU, and adding a new exhaust system.  Peak horsepower has now been pushed up to 403.  Away from the engine bay, new lightweight composite body panels, wheels, and bumpers trim down on fat.  Toyo Proxes race tires, Bilstein shocks, and Eibach springs accompany a wide-track and lowered suspension to handle the added performance and reduce drag.  All this carbon fiber and extra boost lets the new Evo go from zero-to-sixty in a Shelby-spanking 3.8 seconds.  Pricing for the FQ-400 starts at £50,000.

Video game designer Lars Martensson has put his digital skills to better use by amusing the automotive community and, more importantly, me.  Martensson (or “GRID,” as he enjoys being called) has joined the Subie resistance in fighting against the current styling of the Impreza.  Martensson’s vision for the next Impreza employs an aggressive and angular surface, a wider fascia, and narrowed headlamps.  He’s received a lot of applause for his vision.  See it and judge for yourself the merits Martensson’s digital hatch.

The Raw Data on VW's Scirocco R TSi

VW’s Scirocco R TSi is ready for its fall release–in Europe only, of course.  The R borrows the Golf V GTi two-liter I-4 powertrain, with an added turbo boost to push out 265 hp and 258 ft.-lbs. of torque.  Offered for drivers is either a semi-auto twin-clutch gearbox or a traditional six-speed manual shift.  Unlike the Golf R32, the Scirocco R will only be offered in its regular front-drive form.  VW engineers wanted to keep weight down as much as possible, which explains the R’s mere 2,900 lbs.  Combined with a new spoiler-laden aero kit and a lowered stance, the R can hit sixty in just six-and-a-half seconds.  Also part of the joyous package are 18″ five-spokes, upgraded brakes, and a new differential taken from the GTi.  So, Europeans get have VW performance and we get a Jetta TDi.  Anyone bothered by this?

The Dodge Viper is About to Get De-Fanged

The Dodge Viper was one of America’s few automotive treasures to emerge in the 1990s.  Under the Daimler regime, Dodge engineers rolled out the SRT-10 and the public flew into a…snore.  The Viper’s charm has almost vanished in a time of high-powered competition and unsteady markets.  The exotic was set to be retired by 2011, but Chrysler sought out a private buyer to take over the Viper legacy.  The asking price was a mere $10,000,000, but even that slim figure wasn’t low enough.  As it now stands, this species of reptile is set to be extinct.divx secret life of bees the
